Feel my Power! The Nova Video Thread

H loops don’t build as much meter though, so you’re less likely to be able to DHC into frank for snapshots. Neither combo is going to get into TOD territory if you’re DHCing into Frank either. Not saying H loops shouldn’t be learned (they should), but for a team like that leveling Frank is the #1 priority.

The way I see it, is Frank is my Anchor. The team is a Nova team, with Frank being the assist both characters can use. I played Nova/Frank/Dante for a little bit, but I saw the biggest problem was actually letting opponents live. lvl 4 or 5 Frank can still die, and you just wasted an opportunity to kill a character. I modified the combo so when I use Frank in the combo I can actually get lvl 4 for two meters while still killing the opponent, since pretty much whenever I end a combo in Bionic Maneuvers I can raw tag Frank for a picture after an UVG. Spencer/Frank is still very very good. You can easily hit lvl 4 out of any combo, while simultaneously killing the opponent. That’s the whole point of the team. Nova can level Frank and so can Spencer and I don’t have to sacrifice letting the opponent live.

It’s a perspective thing really. I’m not terribly fond of the notion of a Frank anchor; I think people get more privvy to the idea of running away from him if he’s last/glowing red. And when I play Nova/Frank/Rocket I consider it a Frank team, with the goal being to maximize Frank as best as possible. I personally think that while not being able to kill on the first touch sucks, if your neutral game is strong enough, it’s not a dealbreaker. Regardless, either mentality can work with the right team/setups/etc.

I played that team for a little bit also, I love Rocket with Frank. Also, Nova has really sick log trap resets. Maybe I’ll post a video to show it. Yeah, It’s definitely a perspective thing. I’ve yet to play test the team too much, since usually I run Nova/Dante/Strider, but I love using Frank so I’ll see how it works. Maybe you’re right.

I usually do Log Trap at the end of a combo (if I don’t use it to get in/hit confirm) into a Centurion M >> choose a mixup from there (there’s lots). If you have other tech at different points and such I’d love to see that, always like seeing new stuff/getting inspired.

I really do think either perspective can work; the 2 strong characters + shopping cart clearly gets results, and I’m personally pleased with my control of the neutral game with nova/Frank/RR. The one thing I’m coming to realize though is Frank’s the only one who really does damage on the team though, and while he puts on the hurt both on/off the bench (I’m working on ways to make him do damage even if somebody else got the hit confirm), if he dies the team is significantly weakened in the damage department. Someday I may have to put one of the Sons of Sparda on point to make up for that :(.

1- My blocking is kind of ass though I realise that’s not much of an excuse. One extra thing to work on!

2- Not much to say to that, thanks for the tip.

3- I’ve been told that before, but with Nova I prioritize meter gain over damage (it’s not like his day 1 fly combo does little damage anyway). I’ve got pretty much every hit counted to make sure I get a full meter at the end of my very first combo so I can DHC into Frank.

4- Oh believe me I can do that just fine and I abuse the heck out of it when I find opportunities for it. Like I said, these matches don’t faithfully portray my actual skill level. I’ll have to look into a way to record my casual matches so you get a more accurate picture of where I can improve.

5- I’ve been told that a couple of times before and from what I gather I’ve done that without actually knowing what it is lol. Can you elaborate on that? I know what an OS is but how does this one work?

6- One more mixup for my incoming character repertoire, check.

7- Believe me those j.H were gimlets, I was just inputting them on the wrong direction because I wasn’t sure where she was. Huge failure on my part, but I did try to do it. I’ll need to master the frank specific anti-phoenix tech.

8- Yeah but it’s not like it’s flawless when I’m playing my best anyway.

Thanks for the long critiques, really helps a lot

No problem man! I actually realized that in training mode today regarding the day 1 fly combo. It builds a full bar so can always DHC to Frank. My mistake.

  1. Pretty much every time you do airdash j.H, hold forward and press H. If they’re in range they will get grabbed, if they try to grab you you will tech the throw, and if they sit there they’ll have to block j.H.

I’m also curious now, how do you go around playing nova/spencer/frank with only shopping cart to cover your neutral game? Don’t you feel a bit limited? I tried using vergil instead of hawkeye and I felt my neutral game suffered a considerable amount from it. Do I just not use shopping cart enough?

Well definitely, arrows are just better for Nova, but cart isn’t bad by any means. You just need to be more patient. It’s my secondary Nova team and I don’t have much experience with it yet, but my main team is Nova/Dante/Strider. So I definitely understand what you mean.

Anyone playing Nova/Vergil?

nova/spencer/vergil as a secondary

Anyone want to help me find if nova has an infinite off the TAC? Thanx in adv.

Assuming you’re using Centurion and Rapid Slash assists, any BnB extensions that you know of? (Ignoring Spencer on your team)

Also, i guess that you’re using Rapid Slash as your neutral game assist? How are you confirming off it mid screen?

According to Olaf Redland, he knows it… talk to him on twitter.

@olafredland

I’m trying to look for it right now. I’m trying to figure out is it a special move that makes the char fall into the infinite or is it a glitch that has to do something with the height.

trying to find it too. read some notes from olaf redland’s twitter. special move after tac, i’m guessing would be light rocket punch or H centurion pulse (the shield)

@sottle u can do ur normal bnb into otg with forward H while calling out vergil’s slash, M CR, H CR … ender( super, air H super, etc)

i read his notes on twitter but cant seem to get it to properly work. i was doing TAC dash down L RP, into jump loop but couldnt figure anything out that worked. i have messed around too much with the H pulse. Need more experimenting. If anyone or if I find something, report back here. Thanx guys.

edit: i just got an idea for u guys to try out since i gotta sleep for work… how about using 10%+ H pulse… it causes a soft knockdown… hmm could possibly work? somebody test it out… ill check back later 2day after work.

infrit,

i think the current trend in knowledge is moving away from olaf’s theories and toward one brought up by eviltoaster:

we see that sentinel doesn’t need any special moves to make the infinite work out for him. i think what’s most important right now are
1 - a way to bring down the opponent from tac height to ground/head-level, where your last hit (probably a heavy?) will cause enough hitstun such that your (neutral?) jump doesn’t register
2 - a jump loop

Here’s Nova’s TAC Infinite.

Well that was quick

If someone could figure out the notation, that would be awesome!

Well… I’m not good with notation but yea here goes…

TAC Down, :db:Airdash, :qcb: :lp:, :mp:,:hp:, Jump :uf:, :mp:, :hp:, :qcb: :lk:… Repeat

my record so far is 9 reps… lol
