Thor’s biggest thing he has goin’ for him is his aerial mobility, and he gets that from his Mighty Strikes. I typically just be strikin’ around on screen, traversing the area fishin’ for hits. If the opponent stays grounded, it’s good to use the version of the attack to come in. Go around in training mode and see what works best on the training dummy. Set it to all block to see what it’s like for a Strike to get blocked and come up with a follow up for it. See what happens when Mighty Strike hits them at various ranges. If you’re up close and it hits them, I follow up with a crouching
into a
Mighty Smash. If it hits further away, it’s usually a good idea to dash once and go straight into your launcher. Things like that really make Thor’s approach hard for the other guy to deal with, and fun for you to play. Another really good approach are the tri dashes. Great for option select throws (as long as one of your dashes is with the :h:) and it’s really good for forcing your opponent to block so you can go for a command grab. Make sure you cover those tri dashes with some type of beam or projectile assist. Those two are really all I do when I’m rushing down. It’s important to remember though, that rushing down might not always be the best answer. (I shoulda remembered that when I played your Hulk team.) Certain characters like to come to you, and for those situations, you simply let them. Keep your blocking up, wait for the slip up or end of the block string, then go for the command grab. Gets 'em every time.
Thanks DJ that is very helpful advice. I like the dash in with the launcher part, no one does that. good idea though. I’ll make sure my dash button has a H in it that is a really good idea for air throws. I’ll make sure and check out the might strikes L and M. Right on.
Nothing feels better than just KNOWING they’re going to tech forward. Air dash backwards because I READ YOUR MIND.
MIGHTY HURRICANE!
Now if only I could learn this whole online blocking thing.
Me an’ Vik talked a little bit about this before. I’m thinkin’ about really cleaning up the Thor forum. Pretty much revamping the major threads like the general discussion and the team/matchup ones for Ultimate. Looking around at other character forums, I can’t help but feel this one’s pretty disorganized. Sure it works for us because we know where everything is, but having an OP that actually updates stuff would be great. That okay with you guys? I’m willing to start this after I’m done with my finals in like two weeks. I think it’d be great if we all chipped in.
im no authority on this but I agree, people are just posting wherever at this point not really following the subject of the thread.
Cool, cool. I’ll start on the threads as soon as I can. (Most likely early on this week.) Probably remake the combo/reset one, split up match ups and team making, and then make a general one.
Not that it’ll make any difference, but if you wanna suggest names, now would be the time to say something. I’ll probably look over some of my Thor comics and take a quote from there otherwise. Nothin’ too silly though. I’m all for humor an’ such, but Thor’s supposed to be godly.
The threads should be done within two weeks, and then I’ll PM a mod to unsticky the old threads and sticky the new ones. Then we’ll be set.
I can help a bit also I have been swamped lately at work it gets really bad around the holidays.
No sweat, my dude. Just chip in where you see fit. Plus you got the guide, so that’s good enough for me.
Some frame data would be sweet. I’d be interested in seeing what is definitively safe/unsafe.
I’ll definitely inform on what’s safe and unsafe as far as moves go, but I’m still not sure about actually putting the numbers up. We’ll see though.
If I guessed that cr.:h: is -28 on bock, would you tell me if I’m hot or cold:D ? Higher? Lower? Is Keits a douche?
I kid, I kid. I think you’re cool for taking the time to do this. I still disagree with this whole embargo on frame data, but I can’t blame you for observing it.
The guide just confirms what we all know in our hearts. The best hope is to push them far enough away so that their punish is … less mighty.
One of the biggest frame differences in New Thor’s Arsenal is the advantage you get on hit from mighty strikes. I have the old and new testament and mighty strike :l: on ground used to be -10 on hit now its +13 this is absolutely huge that advantage is for both charged and uncharged versions the charged versions have more + on block. Air Mighty strike :l: is + 10 on hit and +2 on block +14 on block fully charged. Air:m: mighty strike is a godlike +10 on hit and +13 on block. It is pure sex. the one use I have found for this is that if you hit an opponent with a TK’d air mighty strike :l: you actually have time to land then jump up and grab them with either or :h: mighty hurricane. Also a lot of characters are having issues with Firebrand right now and Honestly Thor wrecks Firebrand so hard its almost free. You can jump up and Mighty hurricane him out of any swooping attack as long as you do it at the max range of that button once you get the timing down :h: is the best because it leads to him being dead. As for block strings the only safe one I have is Corner only but I do have some mid screen shanannigans that just about everyone falls for I ran it all day yesterday but going to try it today then post if it is as successful. Sometimes I cannot tell if things are really good or people just really dont know what to do against Thor. I have been mauling zeros and wolverines all day. I just really wish I could follow up after Mighty Punish.
Edited to add Crouching :h: is -14 on block.
That is so amazing.
Anyway, I’m just about ready to start making threads. As for thread titles, I recently came across this nice little list of quotes right here from the god of thunder, and some of them–all of them–are pretty nice.
So you slipped her a roofie? I do not approve.
I say thee NAY!!
Thor is the strongest one there is.
STAY THY HAND, VILLAIN! Turn and face foes more worthy of thy mettle! Those who wield the sacred weapons of Asgard.
are my favorites
So ummm… I run an avengers team Thor/Cap/Hawkeye but I had no idea this shit was possible… on hit… mallrat just posted this vid in the tier discussion forum and all I can say is … bwahahahahahahaha. This is some shit they should have never shared im about to exploit this shit all night.
This is a pretty well known glitch from mvc3, though Ive been saying its easier in umvc3. But yeah this worked in mvc3 obviously with different supers and such. Its in my old thor vid…
whats the frame data for the uncharged ground L mighty strike on block? is it rly +13 even when uncharged? kind of hard to believe considering that in vanilla even a fully charged ground L strike was unsafe.
its +13 on hit (it used to be -10 on hit) - 18 on block or -7 on block fully charged the ones that are severly + are the air versions. being +13 on block.

I’ve been meaning to bring this up in case you guys didn’t realize, but all cutscene supers (i.e. pretty much all the ones that caused the DHC glitch) still don’t trigger the hitstun timer. What this means is that if you start a combo with a raw super, you can still do the DHC trick in the sense that the opponent will still go into same spinning reel as in Vanilla when you cancel into the whiffing super. This doesn’t reset the hitstun but will only leave it where it was when the cut scene super started. So if you connected with the raw super, you can technically get the exact same DHC trick followup combo you would have in Vanilla. Bear in mind that damage scaling does not get reset though so this will mostly be useful for characters with 20% minimum scaling like Doom.
So how does this apply to Thor? Well, the nice thing about Mighty Punish is that it’s only 3 (or 2 ) hits, so the scaling will be relatively negligible if you’re comboing off it.
Just a little something to keep in mind.
