FEEL HEAVEN'S WRATH: Thor Thread Reloaded

Yeah, that’s a fun thing to do. Really, there are a lot of Thor corner combos that I got ready to do when the time arises, but I hardly ever do, because the only real time I get a hit confirm is when I’m in the middle of the screen. I need to learn that mid-screen/fly/hurricane reset.

After my mighty strike, i paused for half a second or so then airdash towards them. I think :uf: is better after a :l: mighty strike than a simple :f: dash. I’ve also started practicing dashing :u: after a :m: mighty strike in the air. It seems to work, need to actually try it out in a match.

Thats trick works rather well … I generally do it midscreen where most people arent looking for a thor reset. For whatever reason everyone I play against only thinks thor can reset in the corner… Lol at them … (Sips on Odins Beer.)

Can you guys critique my play? And yes, my She-Hulk was hot garbage in this vid.

Ha ha, I just posted that vid in the video thread commenting on how well your Thor was with that She Hulk assist.

Anway, from the start I gotta say I’m not too fond of your team order. She Hulk as an anchor is pretty hard to make work if she’s the last character you have left against a solid team with decent zoning capabilities. That comeback you did with her was honestly good luck on your part because of that happy birthday. If Wesker had of just sat back doin’ gun shots an’ teleportin’ away every time She Hulk got close, you’d have been in serious trouble. I’d much rather see Iron Man as an anchor. He’s got some great assists, works well on his own because he so well rounded, he doesn’t need any help or have any weaknesses that need to be covered with assists, plus he gets a pretty big boost from X-Factor in speed and strength if you’re trying to work on a comeback, plus from the start of the video, it seemed like you had a lotta trouble puttin’ in work with the ol’ shell head, (which is understandable because he’s a super hard character to play as.) Like I said, I really liked how your She-Hulk’s Torpedo helped out Thor get those kills, so maybe put Thor on point with She Hulk backin’ him up from the start, or have She Hulk start and once you get your damage in with her, DHC into Thor an’ put in more damage like that.

I liked how mobile your Thor was. Good use of those Strikes to get around, an’ great job capitalizin’ on a good majority of your hit confirms with him. (That’s honestly somethin’ I need to learn how to do.) I notice that you have Spark as your assist for him. I’m sorta askin’ myself why since I hardly saw you use it. For Thor, I figure his best assist, and the only one that really matters for him is Mighty Smash. It’s great for combo extensions, and even better for cross-over counters. A crossover counter with Smash will not only get you out of a block string, but also lead into a free launcher into the combo of your choice. Every Thor player needs to capitalize off of its greatness. All that time you were blockin’ with Iron Man woulda been a perfect opportunity to turn the tides, and it’ll make your opponent think twice about gettin’ in your face when they see Thor in reserve.

If you want a beam assist, (and trust me, runnin’ a team with Thor and She Hulk, you’re definitely gonna want a beam assist), pick Iron Man’s Uni-Beam. This is another reason why he’d suit you best as your anchor. That’d help you tremendously with both your other two characters by covering up their biggest weakness. Call the beam to get in with She Hulk. Force the other guy to block. Rush in with that command grab of hers. Boom. Same with Thor. Jump up, call beam as you’re air dashing, get closer with a Strike, see how it works out. For more information on how Iron Man works on a team with his assists an’ junk check out Need rundown of assists and capabilities with assists

I think that about covers it all. Great matches, you definitely know what you’re doin’ an how you’re doin’ it, so that’s always a plus. Real solid game play.

Those are some good points. I personally think She-Hulk is not as bad as people make her out to be as an anchor, but I could try and switch it around. Realistically though, none of my guys are stellar anchors, lol.

As for mighty spark, I like it because it makes comboing into Proton Cannon midscreen way easier. It’s also nice because most characters can crouch it so it actually helps a lot with She-Hulk’s throw mixups. That’s not to say that I demonstrated any of that in the vid, but you know… lol.

I will say that I have the really bad habit of hard tagging when one of my guys is almost dead. I don’t get punished for this nearly enough, but when they catch on it’s not pretty.

I think your team needs a lockdown assist. Then you get more try dash L with thor! which is the best.

Pretty good Thor. I also agree with putting thor on point and iron man as anchor. I play thor wesker doom, so it’s similar to your team as wesker otgs and doom has the beam assist. Iron man’s beam is very useful for keeping people on the ground.

Nice Thor, he is easily the strong point of your team.

So I made one last combo video before vanilla comes out. There’s nothing particularly stellar about the Thor combos, but I do showcase what I think is by far Thor’s best reset. Have a look:

^ As a Thor/IM user, I approve of this.

Hey nice video there fancy pants.

In the interest of having the UMvC3 character threads be as awesome as possible, I am posting here to offer up my current Ultimate Dormammu Thread as a base skeleton to anyone who intends to manage a character thread, or something similar, in Ultimate. It is currently stripped of information, and will remain so until about a week before release. I am not attempting to toot my own horn, but rather offer to others what took me quite a bit of work to do, so that those who would rather not spend the time on such things do not have to.

I have received a lot of compliments to-date about the structure, and a few people have requested permission to use its structure for UMvC3, so I thought I would go around and make the offer to others who might not be aware that someone out there has already done the grunt work for them (haha). Because I am posting this in all the character forums, and this is time consuming on its own, I have not taken the time to check for how developed the thread I am posting on current is. Thus, I ask that no one be offended at my suggestion if your character forum is well constituted already - I mean no intrusion upon your methodologies!

Here is a link to the thread blueprint:

You can get an example of what it looks like when filled out here:

You are of course entirely welcome to change whatever you like if you want to incorporate this structure into your own thread. I have all of my posts saved as Word documents on my computer. If you would like these documents instead of having to copy/paste from the main threads, please feel free to PM me your email address, along with the character thread they will be used for, and I will gladly send them.

Highest Regards to All,
Karst

And on that note, who would be willing to make and maintain Thor’s UMvC thread? Anyone really dedicated to not only Thor but also the SRK forums up for the task? Followin’ Karst’s template would be great, and if someone’s willing to maintain the thread, I’d be more than happy to help contribute to it.

Im surprised no one has posted the Thor Changes but here they are

• Pushback on standing Medium Attack has been reduced.

• Standing Light Attack, Jumping Light Attack, Mighty Smash and Mighty Spark have improved hitboxes.

• Normal and Special moves damage scaling minimums have been increased.

• Mighty Spark’s untechable state on the opponent has been increased.

• Reduced startup time to get to a full charge of Hard Mighty Smash.

• Mighty Strike had an overall frame reduction.

• Reduced startup time to get to a full charge of Hard Mighty Strike.

• Mighty Hurricane’s active throw frames have been increased.

• Mighty Punish is now completely invincible from the first frame onwards.

• Mighty Punish now gives Thor more time to move around after it lands.

• Mighty Punish’s active throw frames have been increased.

• Thor’s mashable Hyper is Mighty Tornado.

Good lookin’ out, but been talkin’ about it in the UMvC3 thread.

Still no word on his supposed new move? Isn’t it some new vertical projectile?

A few thoughts on the changes:

From the looks of it I guess they really don’t want to improve his ground normals much. I guess that might be ok considering the rest of his buffs.

I wonder what they mean by “overall frame reduction” for mighty strike. Faster startup? Faster recovery? both?

Will you be able to followup Mighty Punish with an OTG assist or H Mighty Smash?

I was hoping they would improve Mighty Thunder somehow, like give it better recovery or invincibility frame, or make it so it always comes out like Magnetic Shockwave. Ah well, looks it will still have minimal uses.

Better active frames and range on command throws means better resets.

Might be able to loop Mighty Sparks at the end of a combo with assists now?

Thor’s damage output will be insane with the change to Special move scaling. Hopefully his normals don’t scale to 0 anymore either.

I don’t use Hard Mighty Smash much outside of combos, but it should be much easier to land after an air combo. Also, a blocked H Mighty Smash canceled into Mighty Punish and DHC’d into something like She-Hulk’s air grab could be nasty. If they pushblock the smash it’s essentially safe, if they don’t, they have to jump or get thrown, if they jump, they get grabbed by She-Hulk on reaction. So dirty, lol.

I already posted that in the Thor UMvC3 changes thread.

I *really *wish they would do something to Mighty Thunder. It’s so bad at the moment. Ideally, I’d like them to take away the slow ass recovery and start-up

I agree 100% with this.

Also does increased active throw frames = increased range?

And am I reading it wrong or are they implying that Thor can now combo off of a Mighty Punish? If so that’s pretty cool, wish that had a bit more range though too. Glad it’s finally invincible like it should be though.
