Made top 8 at the salty runbacks in Seattle last night with my Thor team. Unfortunately, my Thor really couldn’t get much going at all. I was getting zoned hard by some teams and probably should have utilized Mighty Spark more. Luckily I got on the stream quite a few times and the matches were recorded and saved into Justin TV archive so I can go back and watch them and figure out what I can do better.
Cool thing is that there was another Thor player who did fairly well in the tourney, almost made top 8 I believe. The guy who I believe won the tournament also came up to me and admired that I have been sticking with Thor and that he is really interested in him and so we are going to try and really come up with an optimal team for him. The guy is a stud at the game so I hope he can whip something up good.
Get someone with a good ground projectile assist and drop one of the tanks.
Right now I run She Hulk / Thor / Arthur, and Thor / Hulk / Arthur. I use Arthur daggers as my projectile assist and they help A LOT for all the characters.
Plus the daggers are good when you want to stand back and spam L Mighty Spark. I’ll gladly lame out people with Thor + daggers if they give me the opportunity. I especially do that against other tank characters like Hulk/Haggar/etc.
Arthur as a character has alot of issues on his own though. His health sucks ass so if someone gets in he’s done. With that being said you may try Thor / Haggar / Arthur. They all have assists that will cover each others weaknesses nicely. I’d keep Thor on Mighty Spark assist, Haggar on lariat (duh) and Arthur on Daggers. The Lariat assist needs no explanation. Arthur and Thor projectile assist will complement each other when filling the screen with shit, plus Haggar will need the projectiles to get in.
If Arthur isn’t to your liking then perhaps try Taskmaster instead. He has tank-ish health, solid keepaway, herp derp combo damage, and a good projectile assist among other things. Plus he can DHC easily from Thor or Haggar.
If you save your X-fac until lvl 3 then Arthur is a much better anchor than Haggar. Gold Armor Arthur + lvl 3 X-fac = chip city. Both Arthur and Haggar are pretty bad by themselves though, but I’d still put Arthur as an anchor regardless. Mainly because it would fuck up your team synergy (no dagger assist for Thor & Haggar) if you lose him early.
I’m watching it. JWong’s Thor isn’t bad, but it looks like he lacks complete understanding of him, considering he tried to do ground Thornado after OTG H Mighty Smash Uncharged (lucky for him it connected because Warren pressed a button) and he’s not going for Thornado combos in the air for sure kills.
Fight for Relief on Justin.tv their running super now, but then theyll run top 8 right after that. I doubt justin will use thor for much longer though, I don’t see him trying that team against floe.
I’ve been maining Thor since the game came out. Doesn’t matter if he’s slow to what ppl say but he delivers major damage. The key to him is in down air dash to set up his ground to air combos. He doesn’t really need too much help with assist but they do add extra leverage to help him get in.
I like the idea behind his team. Seems like he is hurt bad if hsien ko is taken out. Still overall really nice stuff. He def has a solid game plan down and if he executes the start of it people seem to have trouble stopping the steamroll.
Was thinking the same, but he did pull off a lot of comebacks even after he lost HK so props to him. He went for that day 1 reset a little too much though lol.
Also I doubt we gonna see a Thor influx. He takes way too much work compared to most of the other popular characters.
And I’m still not a huge fan of how JWong played him. I mean, I liked his liberal use of j.H, but JWong felt himself a little too much and went for really bad resets instead of just finishing the combo and character off easily.
Like first or second fight with Nerses, he could’ve finished with a Mighty Thornado and kill off Akuma, and he already had FOUR bars, he didn’t need to save meter. Instead, he opts to go for the reset which was completely unnecessary and he almost got wrecked for it.
