FEEL HEAVEN'S WRATH: Thor Thread Reloaded

Yeah, we should all train Mike Ross in the art of Thor…Mike Ross leveling up his Thor will get Thor the exposure he deserves.

Do we really want everyone getting turned on to Thor? I kind of like his dark horse qualities.

Thor isn’t gonna win any majors as long as JWong, Combo, Floe and Marn are around, so I might as well see him get some exposure.

At the same time, we got to see Gootecks level up, so I wouldn’t mind see Mike Ross level up too.

I personally want to know that I worked hard for a victory and managed to beat my opponent even though he knew all my tricks. Winning because you do something that the opponent has never seen before doesn’t feel like a proper victory to me. But you get two players who have gone 10 games and downloaded each other… thats when shit gets interesting.

In other words. Welcome the idea of everyone getting more knowledgeable about every character in the game. It’ll make the fights better.

Are you guys using snap backs with Thor? And if so, during what combos?

My Thor combo game is very basic (I’m still doing day 1 stuff lol), so I’ve yet to implement snap backs. I played him in the 2nd spot on my teams for a while, so I never ended up using snap backs with him. Pretty much all of my snap backs are from She Hulk instead. However I’ve been increasingly using Thor as a starting character so I’d definitely like to know what you guys are doing.

Or…are you guys even bothering with snap backs? His combo and resets are so strong that I often just say fuck it and work on killing the opponent’s point character. However there are certain match-ups (i.e. against a Phoenix team) where I definitely need to find some good snap back combos.

Air dash df l, cr l, cr m is a pretty easy hit confirm into. I don’t really bother snapbacks with Thor. I would rather go into a combo and reset opportunity and kill the character bringing the one with red health back in.

Yeah, I don’t snapback with Thor mostly because I don’t feel comfortable doing it, and if I just opened somewhat up, I don’t want to have to bounce them out JUST to have to work to open them up again.

you could do a tridash l c.l c.H m.mighty smash snapback

my bnb is pretty simple atm off a tridash i just do c.l c.h m.mighty smash s insert whatever and snapback works in that just fine

if you have an OTG assist you could do a standard mmhs in the air otg assist snapback too

Wait Mike ross is using thor? Dayum, didn’t see that coming. But good to hear none the less, the more people using thor the quicker we can crack the character.

Also, JWong was challenged to use MODOK/Cap/Thor next week at WNF.

Also, update on my alt team…my Doom’s ass, so until I learn him I’m trying to find an alternate lockdown assist…Chun works, though I’m worse with her…Mags works but I’m meh with him, I WANTED to use Trish as a temporary fill in…but Peekaboo doesn’t lock down off of an OTG…so salty about that…

Thx guys. I wasn’t aware that he could combo a snap back after M Mighty Smash. Good shit.

Yea I hadn’t had much incentive to learn snap backs because Thor can kill people so quick once he gets in. Still though I like to know available options.

There are 2 situations where snap backs are probably good to use: If you tag an assist from a random super (mighty thunder) or otherwise do a chunk of damage on them.

If somebody tries to tag out a character who’s nearly dead, and you anticipate the tag out and don’t want that character recovering all that red health.

I know some match ups, people want to snap in a reserve character cuz they’re good as an assist (Tron) or they’re good later on (Dark Phoenix), so those are 2 special conditions aside from taking away red health that I can see any character wanting to use snap back for.

My biggest problem is when a character is tagged out and nearly dead, they usually tag out from a more safe distance then just run away while the other character recovers.

And I’ll be excited if JWong does use that team since Thor and Modok have been on my team since day 1.

Alright, I’m restless, if anyone wants to do some sets on XBL right now, come on, because I’m bored and I need to play.

Random discovery.
You can cancel Thor’s Mighty Spark at any point into his Mighty Taunt.
Mighty Punish setup maybe?

ya he can cancel any of his specials into mighty taunt as long as you’re on the ground, wouldve been a lot more useful if mighty taunt didnt have such crappy recovery.

Ya know, Mike’s good basics with heavy characters are clearly carrying over well to Thor, but I do feel like he needs to investigate some of the more in-depth technology developed in this forum. About the only things I see him doing are j.H over and over, mixing in the occasional crouching string. I don’t know if I’ve ever even seen him use Hurricane, much less kara or slide technology.

Any footage of Mike Ross using Thor outside of that Marvelous Adventures episode?

Also; what are his best options at getting in? It seems like everyone uses an Assist to get in.

Thor’s best options for getting in are air dashes, triangle jumps/dashes/slides, kara cancels, and air Mighty Strikes.

How good are Air Mighty Strikes? I’ve seen them beat Taskmaster’s Up Arrows, so I’m curious how good they are.

Well it’s a mixed bag. During their active frames, they seem to be pretty much completely invincible to everything except hypers. I can’t say that they’re 100% invincible without some sort of confirmation, but I’ve yet to find a non-hyper move that will beat Mighty Strike or even trade with it–projectiles included. The flip side of that is that the start-up, recovery, and even some of the animation outlasts the active frames of the move (though the air version has MUCH shorter recovery), and during those times, you’re completely vulnerable. So to answer your question about if they’re good or not: if you know your shit, they’re great; if you get reckless, they’ll get you killed.
