FEEL HEAVEN'S WRATH: Thor Thread Reloaded

Felicia and Thor don’t have much exceptional synergy either. And ironically, I’m giving up Thor to Wesker DHC synergy for Felicia to Thor DHC synergy.

Actually, I really like Thor’s DHC synergy with characters who have supers that physically rush them along the ground, since it means he has an easy time DHC’ing to Tornado/Thunder on hit, or Punish on block.

i was actually planning on using cap’s hyper charging star and if they block DHCing into mighty punish during that punishable delay to punish potential punishers (lol) but unfortuatnely for me during that lag you can’t actually DHC any longer =( BUT captain DHCs really well into Thor, not so much the other way around though. I’m running a secondary avengers team and if I have the meter and I’m catching two characters I’ll combo with thor into mighty tornado, dhc just before the last hit into proton cannon (it’ll last JUST long enough to hit them as they both float down) and then dhc that into hyper charging star. Huge damage. <3 that damage.

I specifically try to pair Thor with characters who have exactly that kind of ability that you mentioned, Gimpy. It works really well with Spencer, Hulk, Super-Skrull, and (to a lesser degree) Deadpool, X-23, Joe, and Akuma.

For the most part no matter which way they tech they will always be in front of you, forward or back. L Mighty Hurricane will grab them every time. Plus I have played a lot of people who mash right as they come out of the tech so essentially they mash to early and you still grab them. One of his best reset options in the corner if you ask me because you don’t have to guess as it covers all bases.

Agreed, Nissan. It’s sort of the equivalent of that mid-screen MMH, Mighty Strike (M), fly, dash, Hurricane reset I posted earlier. I think there’s a lot of potential to be had in Thor’s fly used to wait just BELOW your opponent’s reset position. Definitely something to be explored further.

I was playin against some friends last night and I wanted to see what to do against people who always come out of their recovery with an attack. Right now I’m using Thor/Tron/Sent but I can sub Tron out for Haggar too. Anyway if I think they’ll recover forward and I’m not sure whether they will come out swingin then I have to try conditioning them to come out blocking. One of the things I started doing after h mighty smash combos is immediately doing h mighty strike. If I charge it long enough they get hit on the left. If I don’t charge at all, they get hit on the right. The screen goes up and stayes on them so they don’t even know you’re doing anything until Thor says something.

With Tron or Sentinel (again, after the otg mighty smash) I’ll dash forward on the ground and call her out. Basically doing a cross under. If Tron hits, Mighty Hurricane. If it’s the drones the clutter and confusion makes it easier to go for a mix up. Once they’ve been conditioned to recover while not hittin buttons it’s business as usual. Also when zoning it looks like the best thing to do when when keeping him out is to vary the strength of the mighty spark. As long as you have some kind of zoning assist on your team already then jump to try covering the area that the assist doesn’t. The guy started super jumping to get by and I noticed that the heavy spark wound up working because of the long start up. He’d basically fall back down just as the move is starting to come out.

Anyway, I think I’m settling on Thor/Sentinel/Tron. Sentinel can’t take a hit like before so I have no remorse in using him (plus black sentinel matches my Thor, lol). I’ve been making it a habit to almost always tap Tron assist immediately after crouching medium (before the third hit comes out) so now unless it’s the extremely short characters no one is punishing me when I get blocked. If I’m not blocked I just launch. The thing I need to work on are the combos where you delay the air S so you can do a charged mighty smash, being able to do Tornado closer to the ground makes DHC’s much easier.

Can Thor do anything from a normal air throw by himself or does he need an OTG assist to call in to continue on ?

The only thing I’ve been able to come across is to Mighty Thunder off an air throw, but that almost seems like a waste of meter due to damage scaling off the throw. His ground throws on the other hand… >:)

I still have issues with it when comes to doing a normal jump and instantly doing an air Mighty Strike.

For an FYI:

It’s been mentioned here before, but if the opponent falls out of the Mighty Tornado super before it’s done doing all of its hits, then the opponent will not flip during recovery and can be hit by anything on their way to the ground. Keep that in mind when you want to DHC from it. It’s especially important for the air version of his Tornado since not all characters have supers that will hit the opponent so high in the air. If you DHC out before the final hit then you can use a standard beam super among other things.

I just found out I can use that to my advantage for Thor->She Hulk DHCs. After air Tornado you can DHC into She Hulk’s anti air super which will not hit, but it will allow her to recover before the opponent hits the ground. She can :d::h:,:s: to relaunch the opponent and do a short air series (like MHS) afterward. I believe she can follow the air series into OTG–>super as well but I literally just started messing with this last night and I hadn’t explored it more. The thing that sucks is that the hit stun scaling is so bad that it’s difficult to find any good options right now. I’m gonna work on it more though for sure. I was happy to find something because she’s a notoriously bad character to DHC into.

The trick to insta tk mighty strike for me at least is f,d,f,f,uf+attack so just forward than quarter circle to upforward and attack. I get it much more reliably that way.

Except Mighty Strike is a RDP.

I made an error on a previous post - my idea of keeping my hyper charging star safe with thor’s mighty punish worked. Dunno what I was doing wrong before but it just would NOT DHC. Maybe I set my meter to only one bar and didn’t notice or something! In any case, I can punish potential punishers with that DHC on a blocked hyper charging star corner and midscreen huzzah. Not perfect, but it’s SOMETHING because that thing is MASS punishable =(

I still cringe thinking about that Charging Star DHC Tornado punish off a poorly timed projectile… think that might be considered statutory rape.
