Features you do NOT want to see in modern fighting games

What I dont want in new modern fighters…shitty techno music. Like some of those tracks they already got in SFxT.

Hitstun deterioration. It’s a lazy way to prevent infinite combos. It’s funny cause they’re present in games that revolve about combos. That’s almost as stupid as an offensive game that discourages offense…

Color edit. Not a big deal in 3D games but it sucks in 2D games when players don’t understand the concept of lighting and shading, resulting in a palette slop instead of a palette swap. Sprites having no definition because the player made all the shades the same color, and then you got those “nude” colors people tend to make. Are real life women so lacking that people would have to depict fictional females in the nude, in a video game? I don’t know, with games like BB and KOFXIII offering tons of different colors to choose from, why would you feel the need to make your own?

KOF XIII offers color edit and the way it’s ahndled fixes alot of the problems people have with it.

Hitstun deterioration is another lazy tool and is easier to implement then a burst mechanic.

As for palette editing I like the idea Kof13 did their editor as it makes it easier to edit and prevent those one color sprites and the horrible shading. As for the classic way I made my share of horrible palettes the only ones that ever got on a patch are my FHD and Jojo’s edits.

I thought of other ideas to prevent those one color edits. Like, splitting the gradients up and having it check to see if a color is used more then once in that gradient but sometimes sprites have to share a random color from said gradient and make it look awful but this wouldn’t work on newer games and take a lot of work on games with big rosters.

how its funny to see this precise mechanic in gmes that could potentially have them?
have you heard about the concept of safeguard?
plus so far many of the games that have this mechainc have proven that it can be an effective way to control what would end as an infinite fest

tht doesnt mean that the other mechanics are lazy or simple shortcuts to adress the problem, they are just different ways to approach it

Mission/trial Mode.

I don’t want Simon-Says combo mode.

I want combo challenges having interesting replay value to them, and they do more just make do some combos.

Gotta admit, CvS1 Robotic themes were godlike.

You realize hitstop is there to actually make it so the player subconciously feels a move connect, and adds weight/impact to the move itself which by its very nature makes pressing buttons more fun. Like, hitstop is fundamentally required to make a good fighting game these days, because it literally adds enormous amounts of feel quality and fun and subtracts nothing.

A FG produced by ono is what I do not want to see.

3+ characters with the same or similar attacks in the same game (Ryu | Ken | Akuma | Sakura | Sagat | Dan | Evil Ryu | Oni | Gouken)

Accessories that power up characters (Tekken, Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter)

A move that automatically heals a character (Elena | Gill)

Automatic kill hazards (MK Deception | MK Armageddon)

Ridiculous activation controls (KOF)

Characters that clash with the game’s cast (Superman and the rest of DC superheores/supervillians, Darth Vader, Yoda, Ghost Rider, Phoenix Wright, Frank West)

That’s all I can think of for now.

Wow thought I’d posted this here, but must have been the grinds my gears thread.

Intentionally bad characters (either joke or story related), all I see here is a wasted playstyle, I know some people would proabably use them for low tier lulz, but if a joke/cannonically weaker character was made playable rather than just bad, would anyone really be saying “Man I wish this character was worse so I could lose more”

Online only colour pallets, yes it’s a small grumble but it is rather annoying when AH3 tells me I’ve earned all these cool colour schemes but I’m still stuck staring at the 5 basic ones in training mode and offline matchs, they are on the disk, someone has put effort into making them and although they may not have been a goal you strived towards you still earned them and it just doesn’t make sense to not be able to use your golden catherine or whatever offline as well as online.

That leads directly into online only replay saving, why do companies do this so often?
The best matchs nearly always occur offline where you have no worries about lag or anything and both of you are there in person for that great comeback/total pasting/whatever, why are we not allowed to save these magic moments whilst have been able to save “random match vs some guy online no:1209812” since BBCT, are these companies trying to sell video capture cards under different names or has no-one really thought about this?

Also, skippable opening sequences which the online system uses to stabalise, if they are being used to stabablise you should not be able to just skip them and start the game all lagged up, they should either not be used for that, or should be unskippable online. (Unskippable online only that is, you should still be able to skip them offline)

abc launch mechanics , i dont ever want a freaking party game that no one is gonna party to anyway, like the new marvel no dedicated lp hp lk hk…is the SFXtekken also using this same im gonna call it ONOsan buttons set up abc launch. instead of the lp mp hp lk mk hk Capcom fighter configuration that was fine for every generation except this new generation of kids that capcom some how thinks has less braincells then kids did in the 90z? when in truth i believe this kids learn much quicker then we did with the whole getting a cell phone and ipad at 4 years old now

hahahahaah had to get it off my chest LOLlolololoolol was looking at my pre order amazon for sf x tekken tonight and Its been driving me crazy that i dont want to get it, because the only way to let capcom know how you feel is with your wallet… gems are everyone beef but not a abc buttons that does punchs and kicks basically a 3 button game…the smashbros games like marvel and sf tekken need to go…i just want fighting games from capcom… i dont know what this stuff is
