Favorite/Most Hated Characters in Fighting Games

I wouldn’t say it’s shitty opinions…just…“whatever” opinion. Anyway, There’s a reason why there are options. I can’t say no to options.

Juri can be a pain in my ass anyday. Bow chicka bow wow.

Speaking of Juri. Thanks to nutsVSguts I see Juri as like the Quagmire of Street Fighter lol.

Who makes these videos. I love them. Oh Juri…what a tease. That twisted one though was funny.

Feng. I said it in my post. A youtube channel called nutsVSguts. He also goes by Dhim on Deviant Art.

Yeah, I just saw that. Those are some funny vids.

Had no idea this thread was here. Lots I like, few I hate. Time to rant:

LOVE

Blanka: I’ve always loved the monster characters in fighting games, and he was the first one I had ever seen. Who doesn’t love the electricity?
E. Honda: I like grapplers, but have always had trouble with standing 720s. This made him an early pickup in SF4, and I’ve had a soft spot for the sumo ever since.
Poison: My love for pro wrestling, 90s beat em ups, 80s metal, social progress and boobs all in one stylish package. Damn right I main her.
Reptile: In addition to monster characters, I also like the MK ninjas, and his forceball shenanigans are tons of fun. Also, I like green.
Sub-Zero: My go-to of the big two. Ice powers have always been fascinating to me, and they make him progressively more fun to play with each game.
Frost: See above. Nice ice alternative, but with cooler hair.
Drahmin: Zombie monster character with a neat gimmick. Too bad I’ll probably never see him again…
Freddy Krueger: “FREDDY KRUEGER IN MK HOLY TOSTITOS THIS IS A COOLEST THING EVER” - Me, age 14.
Bo Rai Cho: I really like drunken fist characters, even if the farting fatalities are a little silly.
Brad Wong: See above, minus the farting.
Nemesis: Not top tier in UMVC3, but I don’t care. RE3 is one of my favorite games of all time, and having him playable in a fighting game is just a pure joy.
Doomsday: Monster character…but with pretty much everything I could want in a power character also. So much fun to play.
Green Lantern: I’m a fan of the character, and thankfully he’s always seemed to have had a good showing in fighters so far.
The Joker: See above, but without the good showing. Low tier, but fun.
Iron Tager: Monster Power Character who also does Real Soviet Damage.
Taokaka: They could have made her a stupid cliched catgirl. Instead, we got Cheshire Cat Wolverine. I dig it.
Kuma: Grizzly bear in a fighting game. That is all.
Dragunov: Has a fun playstyle and a cool name.
Marduk: Screw your Mishimas and your devil genes, I’m gonna throw you around and bash your face into the concrete because I can.
King: Because Lucha Libre is awesome. Ole.
Spinal: Monster character who happens to have the best theme in the new Xbone game. Dat Laugh.
Snake: I seem to always have trouble picking a Smash main, and Snake really seemed to click with me. The fact that I love MGS was just a major plus.

HATE

Hsu Hao, Mavado, Darrius, Dairou, That Armor Guy from Orderrealm, Taven and Daegon: Boring wastes of space. I hope they never come back.
Evil Ryu / Oni: I never understood the appeal of alternate universe character variants. At least Ryu / Ken / Akuma / Dan / Sean / Gouken / Sakura / etc are all their own characters. These two seemed like a waste of a slot.

@Wasted you totally misinterpreted my post. I know what they say in Japanese is the same in English, but my problem is how the voice actors says it (as in, not what words comes out of the actor’s mouth, rather how the actor’s sounds when they say said words). When Sakura wins in SFxT she says “Oh my gosh, that was so awesome (IIRC)”, when she says that in English, she sounds like a cliché white girl (last time I’ve check, a Japanese girl who can speak English should not sound like a cliché white girl, right?).Two, I don’t have a problem with the whole English cast (not sure where you got that idea). I just only hate how Akuma and Sakura sound in English (again, not because what words comes out of their mouth, rather how the they sound when they say said words), anyone else is fair game tho. Reread my post because you totally missed my point.

@FengShuiEnergy No worries man, I was trying to get a response out of you, but you don’t want to discuss it, so I’ll respect your choice.

Also, @“The Damned” the Street Fighter characters still have the same voice actors, it’s just that they say their moves differently (listen -that is if you can- to Ken’s and Sakura’s English voices when they perform a special move in SF4 and then compare them to their SFxT English voices).

(Geez, guys. Would you please stop quoting the entirety of everything I say, especially when it’s on the same page already? It just takes up unnecessary space, especially for the people on phones.

Just “snip” quotes please, especially if you’re responding with a mere sentence. [/especially])

I am reminded why I dislike the social-media-esque comment system now at the bottom of every post since people can just say that they disagree or agree with you without having to say why. I guess it’s still better than the old rep system though where it was so easy to get negged into the ground anonymously.

Anyway, let’s move to on-topic things:

Liking the cat costume is fine, though I will totally question why you like it. Regardless, it’s not your fault it exists, but rather Capcom’s.

It’s hardly the worst alternate the game, but to me it’s rather close to the bottom. It’s pretty bad between the amount of blatant pandering in it, the amount of weirdness to since Cammy liking cats so damn much came out of nowhere, the fact that being someone who likes cats a lot still doesn’t mean you suddenly start dressing up as one and my admitted dislike of most cat-girl or girls in cat costumes. The only exceptions off the top of my head are Katt from BOF2, Miss Fortune from Skullgirls, Aisha from Outlaw Star and, of course, Catwoman if we’re talking about people just in costumes. I used to like Kokonoe before her totally broken inception as an actual fighter; now I’m just lukewarm to her.

To me, Cammy wearing a freaking (bumble)bee outfit would make way more sense even though it would be just as weird given that it would at least be a callback to her “Killer Bee” nickname (and possibly to Q-Bee). I honestly can’t be the only person to have been really surprised by the cat costume thing, even though I normally don’t give a damn about alts. The only alts I really care about are Mecha Gief, Rufus’s Jiang Shi one (since it makes him way less ugly), all of Vega’s and a few random others.

Oh, and since I mentioned it, to me, the “actual” worst alt costumes in the game are Akuma and Gouken’s nearly naked ones. I vaguely get what they’re referencing, but I’m really not sure why I should be forced to have to stare at their bare asses any time they do anything in those “outfits” if someone picks it. Granted, I’m not sure why I should have to stare at anyone’s bare ass for the sake of fanservice in a fighting game, but I’ve unfortunately gotten resigned to it being ubiquitous.

Oh, so it’s an issue of inflection then. I see. I could indeed see that being grating, especially between games so closely released; weird inflection is part of why I dislike Akuma’s current English voice so much.

Eh, everyone has their tastes. I dunno about you but things would be pretty lame if everyone liked the same thing. Like, I love Juri. To the point where I started being a collector of her merchandise. Never done that before with anything really. But Juri…goddamn…it’s like a uber attachment.

I’ve had plenty of fav characters over the years but not to the point where I would go out of my way to collect something of said character(s). But Juri? It’s like “OMG!!! MINE!” She’s just so awesome. An inspiration if you will.

That’s cool man, I wanted to start a collection of Street Fighter mechandise, but I keep wasting money on other things (in due time, I’ll start it).

Yup, you hit the nail on the coffin. You see that @Wasted, that’s what my original post was about. I hate the pitch that Akuma and Sakura have in their English voice.

MetaKnight from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. You looking for a **prime example **of cheap bastard, MK fits the bill! The mere fact he was banned from being picked in tournaments alone speaks volumes of how broken he is and also making more than half of the 39 character roster irrelevant x_x

The rapist character in question

I totally get this. I’ve always figured this had to do with the nuances of the original language regarding what was said vs. what was happening onscreen. However, I think that since Capcom localization has gotten so much better in recent years (coupled with my dealing with some really crappy voice acting over the years), and the English SF voices seem perfectly palatable to me.

Replace Juri with Poison, and you’re pretty much me. Can’t say I am willing to drop $300 on her one statue though. I just can’t justify that to myself or my bank account.

I missed nothing. The actors in both languages are portraying these characters in the same way.

It sounds just as bad in Japanese as it does in English. The scripting is just as hackneyed and corny regardless of the language. Taketora’s lines in Japanese are just as overacted and cartoonishly gruff as Dave Mallow’s.

Ivy is cool in my book but Felicia is as bad as Cammy. She has little to no reason to be popular in VS Series. We got 3 Darkstalkers characters and all of them female. This goes to show what Darkstalkers is known for today. We could of got someone better than Hsein-Ko.

I fail to see how Ivy is any better than Felicia. Design wise they are both arguably the most shameless display of fan service in fighting games if not gaming in general. Still love them both but I’d give Felicia a pass seeing as how she turns into an actual cat, so her being practically nude is justifiable because her clothes would just fall off whenever she transforms. Ivy however is not. There’s no reason for her to be dressed like that for battle.

As for the Versus series of Capcom fighters. I absolutely agree. Darkstalkers having predominantly female reps was a bad move by Capcom, and thus the joke “People don’t play Darkstalkers, they cosplay as Darkstalkers” If characters like Talbain, Raptor, Demetri and Anak, were given more shine. The series would probably be known for the horror theme fighter it is as apose to just being known for the main 3 ladies of the series.

That’s the best reason to like a character.

I don’t get this. We’ve had characters that did something similar before and they weren’t banned.

True @‌d3v
The 4 gods made a lot of the MvC2 roster look like shit. They weren’t banned, people just quit picking bad characters in tourneys.

Ivy is honestly better than Felicia imo. Ivy has a backstory and connections to the other characters, Felicia is just a random furry.

Felicia has a backstory. Sure it’s no “destined to save the world” epic backstory but it’s cute. The Darkstalkers in general have no connection with each other. They’re all out for their own intrest. Canonly only Morrigan, Lilith, Demetri, Pyron and Jedah ever cross paths with other characters. Although she is friends with Morrigan.

Also Felicia’s inspired by that Cat people movie from like the 40’s. So she’s not randomly added for furry appeal. Like most of the cast she’s a twist on a classic horror movie/folklore monster. But being the cute character of the series they designed her as such.

Although I will say Felicia was better as a character in her DS1 and Night Warriors days. She was cute and playful yet a lil sassy with some attitude and a sharp mouth. That made her fit in with the cast more. Like she talks some serious trash in her NW win quotes lol. But in MVC3 they made her uber cute and sweet. It’s…disgusting. And sadly that’s how most see her now. -_-

But hey we all have our opinions.

Come on, we all know Felicia was created for fanservice since day 1…
