Chun’s entire game is to play footsies and outpoke. She has a nerfed footsies game and virtually zero priority in SF4.
She doesn’t even play like Chun… I don’t know what the fuck she plays like… Like a weak Ryu with no anti air…

MvC1, Chun was a monster.

Blanka’s entire game was never to be an overpowering character. He’s been a gimmicky mixup character since Super Turbo, which is why he’s godlike for like 3 weeks and then nobody gives a fuck about him anymore. RC and his dumb fucking priority in CvS2 made him godlike though - and that’s, as far as I know, the only game he’s been consistently considered top tier.

This is why nobody likes that person that plays Chun. It’s absurd how her buttons trump much of the cast.

I meant Feng from Tekken… I should edit that. And it’s arguable that Sent is near the upper echelon in UMVC3. He’s a nerf away from being the best character in the game. They should really just give him that health back… Just to fuck with everybody.

having better buttons than the rest of the cast is fine. it’s what Chun is supposed to do. she usually has crappy wakeup options, nothing even remotely like an uppercut once you get past Alpha series, mediocre fireballs that let her keep her head above water but not dominate zoning, and somewhere between mediocre to bad anti airs. also EX SBK sucks in every game she has it in.

ofc with the hit box and priority engine combo, those things matter a lot less in 3s. she has wakeup jab, wakeup cl rh as an uppercut equivalent, wakeup far roundhouse beats walk up throw, her hitbox makes tick throws a bit harder on her and she can wall jump out of the corner. because of how jump ins work in 3s her anti air options are pretty solid (back fierce, parry + cl st rh, walk back low forward, or dash under), and who cares about fireballs in that game.

but as a general idea, Chun having the best buttons in the game makes sense! she needs them!

Okay, this does bring a question from me: Why does everyone hate Faust? In GGXAC, he and Slayer are my mains. I understand Slayer hate, because he is pretty dumb, but I have no idea why everyone seems to dislike Faust. He’s at a disadvantage against half the cast and lacks a consistent projectile. If a delayed projectile breaks your combo, it’s your own damn fault for not noticing what he threw out and reacting accordingly.

As for how the characters play, depends on the game. I love ST Ryu, but I find SFIV Ryu to be dumb as hell, for example.

But if we consider general play styles and visual design, I generally tend to like big / hard hitting, freaks and badass guys and classy/hardened women, and tend to hate lolis/moe/kids and bishies.

So for example I like: Chang, Choi, Heidern, Clark, Karnov, Zazie, King, Chizuru, Mature, Vice, Kasumi Todoh, Hibiki, Kojiroh, Charlotte, Leona, Whip, Kanae, Baiken, Potemkin, Faust, Robo-Ky, Rose, Q, Geese, Bison, Grant, Mr.Big, Eiji Kisaragi

and hate Ky, Kyo, Iori, K’, Ash, Athena, Bao, Momoko, May, Bridget, Hokutomaru the entire Blazblue cast except Hakumen.

There are exceptions though. I like Yuri Sakazaki, Cham Cham and Kula even though I shouldn’t. I don’t mind the Arcana Heart cast even though it’s a huge compendium of all the things I hate character design wise. I guess when you are having fun you just forget about the rest.

Because like Blanka, they’re not dominating characters, but a lot of people just find them very annoying to fight. Mostly because you can’t approach them the same way you do the rest of the cast.
You have to change the way you play to beat them, and people don’t like change. I think it’s a stupid reason, but I think that’s the accurate one. This happens with Venom (GG) as well… You can’t just play. You have to read the player better than the player can read themselves.

E.g. - there’s no reason at all I should ever get hate for using Blanka in ST / HDR… no reason, he fucking sucks… It’s your fault for trying to rush me down and not just stand there spamming c.mp… Because half the cast can take Blanka down with spamming c.mp… Literally… Fucking DJ and Balrog…
