Public humiliation is NEVER the answer. I don’t give a fuck how much she whines about working to her friends, but the video was CLEARLY overboard. Do you even know what shit like this does? It has a lasting effect. It follows you all of your life. You get humiliated not just in front of the school, but in front of thousands of people. The ratio of what she did and what is happening is not sufficient. Grounding her, taking away her laptop/destroying it whatever, and taking away 90% of her privileges is what she is used to, and TALKING to her would be a nice parenting in my opinion, but life humiliation? Bitching about how much you hate your parents is a normal thing for teens, i did it, my friends did it, and we all got our licks, we all know how wrong we are now. You know why, punishing your children without showing the EXACTLY why they are wrong is not progress at all. I don’t know what he did beyond this video, so i won’t comment on his actions past that, but personal talking is what lasts, and its what makes better people. Not all teens who get beatings for damn near everything are going to realize exactly why they are being punished, even if they know they are wrong, they clearly don’t know what the effects their words have on others, which is why COMMUNICATION IS KEY. Going to extremes like this is going to do nothing but fuck with her for the worse. He should have done what he did behind the scenes, that has a much more positive affect on this. All of you who are no longer teens now are talking about how this is reasonable, you have clearly forgotten what shit like this can do to someone’s school life.

I’m still not understanding this “on Facebook for all to see” bullshit people keep saying. Nobody knew who these people were before this video except the (once again being generous) few hundred this 15 year old girl had on her facebook who even cared to look at it. Now millions will know and let’s not forget this is one side to the story coming from a dude pumping hollowed points bullets into a laptop to make a point. This isn’t even getting into the fact he all but boasts about breaking through her privacy settings to read this. She might still be an ungrateful teenager being a TYPICAL teenager, but public humiliation isn’t solving shit. If he does this privately I bet she still gets it, doesn’t have her social life ruined forever, and learns more importantly Facebook is not your diary/journal keep that shit to yourself and this won’t happen.
I was 15 once. I was plenty retarded, as all 15 year olds are–midwestern suburbanite, deep southern redneck, or otherwise. As such, I look back and occasionally feel mortified over things I said and did, especially where my sweet, generous parents are concerned.
But I never did or said anything that remotely approaches anything like what this girl was saying about her parents behind the proverbial closed doors of Facebook. If I had, I can’t imagine how I’d feel now, looking back at myself. But I’d know for sure that whatever punishment I got, I probably deserved worse.
I completely agree with what he did, but you don’t necessarily need to have a difficult childhood in order to become a responsible person.
