Man, it’s cool that he is keeping his authority as a parent, but I would have just donated her laptop (or kept it lol). Kind of sucks to see something like that ruined for no reason when he could have just as easily donated it to someone who actually does deserve to have a laptop or needs it for school.

I also think your question is wrong. Punishing your kid for disrespecting you is the wrong way of looking at it; explaining how their disrespectful behavior is bad for their future and reinforcing it with punishment makes more sense to me.
