There’s a difference between good parenting and just trying to humiliate your daughter. This could have been behind closed doors and probably would have been more effective, but whatever let the man get internet points.
If you read what he wrote under the video, his daughter took it online in the first place and humiliated herself and her family, he just put the shoe back on the other foot.
If your dad has a gun, works in IT AND is pissed off…time to move out if you want to keep on living. That child is in for a world of change, none of which she will like, that was all of her own doing.

He didn’t strike her, didn’t verbally degrade her, didn’t threaten her, didn’t turn the gun on her, didn’t terrorize her in any way. He destroyed one of her possessions, told her exactly why, and posted the video for the benefit of the same people who had the benefit of reading her message about him.
Not the nicest thing you can do for a kid, and it’s something that she’s probably not going to like very much, but you’d have to bend the definition pretty hard before this resembles abuse of any kind.
Honestly, he’s being a drama queen about it. I remember back in 2000, in IRC I was talking to friends and I said “Damn my computer is shitty. If I said anything to my dad though, he would kick me ass.” Verbatim. Well, the next day that was taped to my room door. My dad had a damn keylogger on the computer. We NEVER even talked about it. He just let me stew about all the fucked up shit he might have seen me say at the time. Just thinking about it now…Oh god why…
That’s a good dad. Doesn’t get all emotional but hits you with the psychological fuck you up for the rest of your life shit. This dad just guaranteed this kid will be a runaway and teen preggers within the next year.
That’s facebook though. He put this on youtube for the entire world to watch. Putting it out there for everybody to see seems so petty and I honestly do not think it’ll do an effective job of “parenting” her. Yes, it’s important to be stern and show tough love but what’s even more important than that is you have to be able to relay WHY you’re doing what you’re doing. Is there any other reason for him to put this online other than to humiliate her? I’m just saying, this would have been way more effective if it was done in the privacy of their home.

I believe someone else uploaded it to Youtube from his facebook and just repeated what he said as on his actual facebook post he said he’d take it down in a couple of days, he just wanted her to learn a lesson. Eventually if someone wont stop hitting you, the gloves need to come off, there is only so long you can reason with someone. Parents not taking a stand against their kids is why so many kids these days have such a high disdain for authority.

Yep, he put it on FB, but without searching…I odn’t know who it is, nor do I actually care. The ONLY people who will care are the people he actually wants to. We can go back and fourth on if it was too extreme, but lets be real, this wasn’t the FIRST TIME, there for the punishment and condemnation the first time wasn’t harsh enough to stop the behaviour in the first place. That in itself is what causes the escalation. He didn’t just randomly do it. He said it wasn’t the first time and she was warned. Honestly, its not even about being spoiled, its about respecting who’s putting a house over your head. I’m a pops now, and between the past 10 years or so I’ve been out of home, I have a MUCH firmer understanding that the shit I complained about as a kid was change. I WISH I could stay at someones place if all I had to do was basic chores. They pay for food, provide housing, clothes, and gadgets/trinkets…and all I ahve to do are chores? Not even extreme ones? ITs a fucking slap in the face to the party that is providing these items to be disrespected like they are charging too much.
If my son gets upset with me one day (oh he will) and goes on FB to rant and rave about me, if it is something that is a slight to my character (venting I understand and am actually fine with) then he’s just disrespected me, the institution that has taken care of him from day one. I’m busting my ass right now - just like that guy was, to provide for my family, I’l lbe DAMNED to be disrespected for my efforts.
Was shooting the laptop the right thing to do…no…its a waste of money, but the long lasting effect will hopefully be worth it. Any scaring was already present.
