Fast Food Strike in 50 Cities

I am surprised the restaurants just don’t fire all off the employees on strike and hire new staff.
They aren’t unionized, honestly its a job a McDonalds, if you don’t work, fine there a kid in high school/ college who more than happy to take over or the high school dropout that needs the cash.

I be damned of some punk kid flipping burgers make more than I do at a professional job.

You make it seem like the US is the worse place to live in, its not…I love america & the opportunities it gives…

If you’re born into a poor lot in life and you find yourself struggling to make ends meet, you’d find it far harder to pull yourself out of that situation.

You speak of opportunity and loving America? For the people on the bottom end of the food chain working in America their opportunities are far less than they’re afforded elsewhere.

There is shit I like about America, there is plenty of cool stuff, it’s a huge country if you can’t find anything to like you’re not looking hard enough. That doesn’t mean that there are not huge injustices occurring. Such as the exploitation of a massive workforce.

this will never happen unless a “third” party gets a real foothold in american politics. it’ll never happen, though - go go gadget one party system!

Sure its a struggle but that’s pretty much what life is all about. Just keep working hard, dont be dumb & make sacrifices…We started with nothing, now i have 16 arcade cabs.

I’m looking at this thread partly for advice on my own future. I’m going to graduate High School next year and I plan on learning welding/pipefitting.

Things look even shittier. :frowning:

It won’t happen until a “terrorist” cell gets really salty and political at the same time.

GG’s America, a couple of years in the military then I’m out, because a lot of this country fucking sucks way more than people think it does.

"The world is overflowing with painful cries of resentment. The groans of tens and hundreds support the luxuries of one. That is the structure of this world.

People are able to endure quite a few things for the sake of the money before them. The rich take advantage of that characteristic, forcing others to serve for the rest of their lives, allowing us to live in comfort. Kings do not become kings by themselves. If the poor rise up together, declaring they don’t want any money, kings will be overthrown. However, the poor seek money so that they may become kings themselves. Which in turn only strengthens the position of the current king. They cannot escape that fruitless paradox. Kings cannot be defeated as long as the poor desire money. The poor will continue to be bound. The kings will be wary and provide just enough comfort so that uprisings do not occur. Regardless of how hard kings drive them."

A better joke could’ve been: Australia really don’t like black people tho

The last time around here that we heard about Australia, some guy went out of his way to point out he doesn’t pick black women with his paying for prostitutes and nearly went on a tangent about something we are not going to know what your problem is, with aboriginal people.

And some of the affluent, European 1st world countries are also like this with open, accepted misplaced hate and racism. Thanks for better insight into Australia though.

Despite just writing about how currently f*cked I am, I’m an engineer, and if it’s taught me one thing, it’s that there’s always going to be money in the world for people who are willing to get their hands dirty. Welding and Pipefitting is HUGE and something to be persevere. Off the coast of Scotland where I am, fitters on the oil rigs start on £50,000 a year; double the local average income. We lose staff in aerospace all the time due to fitters and the like going to work offshore, or to the current big deal; sustainable/renewable energy ie windfarm engineers. You look at things like specialized welding, such as deep sea, and it’s truly a millionaires game. £300k-£400k a year. The worlds your oyster, be proud of your trade.

Brisbane is quite a racist city, it’s endemic with the north because the worst crime rates and lowest life expectancy rates are among indigenous communities. That’s to do with a lot of factors though. Aboriginals also make up around 0.3% of the population or something, and given how small Australia is, that’s not a lot. We have a larger minority in Asian immigrants. Melbourne / Adelaide / Sydney are much more cosmopolitan and multicultural. I live in a rural center down south and even here we have little to no apparent racism and a very mixed community in what was once an entirely white European farming area.

No. They do not. I’m sorry, but because you’re the son of So-And-So Sr. does not mean I or anyone else in this country owe you the ability to make money off of something.

Funny how you’ll fully support no one making money off an idea someone else came up with, unless it’s family members, lol.

Also, maybe we should look at alternative models of setting up society+economy? Of course that would never happen unless everything just crashed but something to consider

Also I think it’d be a good idea if we grew up and shifted our economy from being focused on growth and debt. Maybe try and do a steady-state economy with an eventual focus on degrowth instead of spreading like a cancer cell? Just my .02

Lol! I MMed my boss for a raise. Bodied him 7-0.

Had the same boss since i was 17 and min wage was 6 an hr. best boss i ever had. He helped me move before. So im kinda spoiled, never had an asshole boss like other stories ive heard

But they didn’t.

And they don’t.

Agreeing with this too, I’m wishing I had did some type of trade/vocational program, yet am glad I did pursue comp sci as a minor(which is where all of the jobs I was offered revolved around). Still looking at the military, which seems to be the most resilient field of employment(save for that other old profession). Still might try and take a stab at gunsmithing if I can find the time to pursue it. It’d be something I’d like to do as well as something I should be able to find employment in along with computer security stuff.

Btw I just have to reiterate how hilariously ironic that razor rushes head first with his “WHO ARE YOU TO BLAHBLAHBLAH” indictments of others, basically going for a moral relativism, yet makes numerous moral statements himself. Lmao

I am gonna change my previous stance. Although supporting entire families is still farfetched, you should at least be able to support your self on minimum wage

These kinds of jobs are needed too. There’ll be less and less of them the higher the minimum wage is raised.

A corporation has zero interest in you being able to support yourself on a minimum wage. Nor do the politicians who get their strings pulled by lobbyists and direct “gentleman” deals with corporate heads.

All the more reason to look outside the main way of doing things. Maybe try and get like minded people to come together on a cooperative? Or learn skills such as hunting, horticulture, etc, so you’re not a complete slave to your wage. Of course depending on your area zoning laws/home owner’s associations/etc may make this very difficult for you ensuring you stay largely chained.

Also if you have tons of student debt like nearly every college graduate(myself included) that also comes into play. Hence the caution to not go into college and get “Degrees in Bullshit”. If you want to get a degree in something like art or whatnot, don’t go to a private school for it(hell probably avoid college period). You’ll never make enough to pay back the debt you’ll incur unless you’re the second coming of Picasso.

Another part of the problem(besides the way we’ve set up things to begin with) is that we push every kid to go to college. Not everyone needs to go to college, and for many people alternatives such as trades/apprenticeships/co-ops/etc are much better ways to get to a decently comfortable(but never stable) point of living without incurring monstrous debt to do so.
