Sorry I didn’t see it posted anywhere. In short FF restaurants in 50 different cities are going on strike, the largest in the history of fast food, with other ‘types’ of stores set to join (Victoria Secret, Macys, etc).
I’m not sure how I feel about this. I understand their want, but do they realize the larger effect of this? If jobs that can be populated by high school kids shift from an average of 9 bones an hour to the requested 18-19 bones an hour (and they want to be able to unionize without consequence) - not only will the price of food go up exponentially, but the effects would hit other industries as well. If I’ve got an education and some kid is making the same loot I am - flipping burgers (no shots thrown), I’m going to demand a raise. Then we get to the proverbial ‘everyone wants more money’, cost of living goes up, money turns Nigerian in value, and that $18 an hour ends up being worth $9 again.
The lady in the article (single mom of 3) talks about the difficulty of child care, I’m like ‘bitch please’, I make good money, my wife works, we have ONE kid and the shit is still difficult/expensive. I understand her frustration in income, but should she be making as much or more than a teacher? Young teachers in a lot of places are in the 30ks…$18 an hour = $37.5k and $19 = $39.5k. If the industry isn’t paying what you want, move up the ladder or get out…seriously.
Why the fuck is mcdonalds your main source of income for taking care of yourself? That’s a part time job for niggas like ME. The fact that your entire life you are warned never to end up working full time at a fast food restaurant and they actually ended up doing it, AND COMPLAINING THAT THE PAY IS NOT GOOD is crazy. It’s not about getting $15 or $18 an hour working at Mcdonalds or retail. It’s about raising the minimum wage that’s what this is about. Everyone wants $10 an hour minimum wage. They’re asking for $15 so they can barter down to $10. If any of you cannot see that and need it carefully explained then… Fuck.
Raising minimum wage is a phenomenal idea because inflation isn’t a thing. That way, everyone can have more money and buy all the stuff they want to buy.

the majority of fast food workers are no longer part time kids getting beer money for the weekend, those types of people account for only 27% of the workforce with the vast majority being adults that are trying to support at least 1 dependent.
i’m not saying 15/hr is what the wage should be, but it’s clear that the current wage isn’t going to cut it and relies on public assistance to allow those workers to take those jobs.
I dont think they are smart enough to do that…Also i dont think these people know how employers work. They will cut down your hours/less employee, that means you will be working understaff…If they aren’t making enough profits then they will close it down & start a business somewhere else.
