So yeah, there are some 3s players with fan boy armies, e.g. Deshiken KFG, J, RX, Yuki Otoko etc. You can’t watch a Makoto vid without someone mentioning J Makoto and how the Makoto in the vid reminds them of J and how “omg scary” J Makoto is. The same applies for any 3s vid and RX. So the question is that do they really live up to the hype?
I was skeptical about Yuki Otoko, because I’ve never seen his game play & Rikimaru said Uraken is the best Gouki. After seeing how composed Yuki Otoko’s game is, I’ve gained a lot of respect for him–but he is really better than Kuroda?
I got to admit that Deshiken deserves his title as best Ken–although there are a lot of good Kens out there (Boss, Matsuken, Getsuyarou (sp?), Chinta, Kitagawa, Natsuhiko, Oh-Nuki and ROKU LOL).
The last 2: RX and J have as many fan boys as stars in the sky because 1 or 2 specific matches made them famous (kind of like the Daigo parry vid effect). So now you can’t watch a vid of them without the fan boys always going OMG HES SO SCARY.
I think RX is good and he can parry the world, but Ushi?! is the best Urien. And I don’t know what to say about J, I think he’s overrated. Momochi (pre SF4), Mimora and Boss are the top 3 Makoto players IMO.
Feel free to let me know if I’m completely wrong, but I had to vent. Thanks!
in my opinion they USED to live up to the hype…but in all sports/hobbies there comes a time when all that matters is what you accomplished in the past not the present…like the saying “kuroda is the best 3s player”
95% people who comment in 3s videos on youtube have no idea what the fuck they’re talking about.
they’ve just seen a few videos and think they know the deal.
it’s good to vent. continue pooping on them, but don’t ever comment yourself. it’s just a downward spiral.
although all of those dudes are good players man. RX team has only been eclipsed as underrated team to get real far in SBO this past year. afaik at least
J who quit ages ago definitely is overrated as 3rd Strike play has evolved so much since he stopped playing (i’d like to see him try and get a PP on current Kokujin) and i think RX was better when Urien tech was newer and harder to deal with
I’m a K.O and Aruka fan (in the past), now it’s Higa. I personally think J was amazing back then.
Alot of things have changed in 3s since then, so you can’t really know what would happen, but what I’m sure of, alot of the new comers in Japan are scary nowadays…
Used to love Messatsu’s Urien, I STILL don’t know does he play anymore, but he was/is great. YSB and Hayao are next, their Hugo play is phenomenal and really show what that character can do with two different styles of play. Then of course Kuroda.
Back when I started taking the 3s learning process seriously I was a huge fan of JR and Jiro. Things have long since changed but they drew me in with all that flash when I didn’t know any better.
Saying “J is overrated because his shit is old tech” is the stupidest thing. Guys like him, Fujiwara and Namijin were definitely the masters of their characters at the time. You’ll still hear certain top players bring up these oldschool heads and discuss what THEY had to say about certain matchups.
(Ex: Boss brought up to Nuki what Namijin told him regarding Ryu vs Alex during the Genki Cup a couple years ago).
If I wanted to be a hater I’d say Daigo was overrated, but even at the top of his game he was definitely up there in terms of strong players. Being able to go toe to toe against K.O isn’t something just anyone could do.
P.S.- I’m forever a Kyushu fanboy. Even Goemon who probably either moved out of Fukuoka or just stopped playing 3S in general.
