Fallout: New Vegas

This may be too early to ask, but I’m new to the Fallout series. Should I go ahead and buy New Vegas or get the Fallout 3 with all the DLCs?

They are both very very similar. New Vegas is basically the same game in a different location with a some extra mechanics and weapons, which is why people are calling it an oversized dlc (approx 100 hrs worth of content). IMO that isn’t a bad thing at all since I loved FO3. If I were you I’d get FO3 first since it’s cheaper and play it, then get NV for cheaper after you are done.

FO3 was great ? it is a really fun game and totally worth the time to play through it. The DLC?s you don?t really need ? they are OK but you could also just play 3 then New Vegas.

I?ve had multiple pipboy glitches where my arm goes up and the sounds match what I would be doing but there is no display. I?m at a point now where my mission is not completing even though the needed conversations already occurred. It?s frustrating.

Get whichever sounds more appealing as a scenario: Washington D.C or Vegas.

I expect you’ll be able to find FO3 GotY for 20-30 bucks during Black Friday sales. If you jump into Vegas now, still pick up FO3 at a later point. Dollar for hour played you won’t do better if you enjoy RPGs.

My character is now an alcoholic because of Cass’ perk (Whiskey Rose - “while cass is a companion she and the player gain damage threshold when they drink whiskey. additionally, the player does not suffer intelligence loss from consuming alcohol and ignores the negative effects of alcohol addiction”). If I need to remove her from the group i’m going to have to detox.

Has anyone experienced any weird glitches in Vault 22? As in I got to VATS to shoot, and nothing happens for about a half a minute, and some instances where I can’t shoot? I was using the Lever Action Shotgun, but tried the 9mm and didn’t have any problems this time… I’ll look into it further.

Also in FO3 I never got the Following in His Footsteps Mission completed, cause I didn’t get the achievement. Glitches are glitchy. Overall still having a great time.

PC by any chance?

I had something similar happen with the Caravan Shotgun in the REPCONN building. I would target an enemy in VATS, nothing would happen. I would pause then unpause and it would let off a single shot, but then nothing again. My enemy could keep attacking me while I just looked at them in slow mo. I had to restart my game to actually get it to stop happening.

Anybody been able to find a reliable vendor for Microfusion Cell ammo? I found a Laser Rifle in Nipton but only have so many shots.

No graphical glitches here running Intel Q6600/Corsair 4GB 1066Mhz Dominator/Gigabyte EP43-UD3L/HD4870 but a few CtDs from time to time. Apparently there’s a hot fix from the community that solves the NPC lag issue but Bethesda is against it for whatever reason. I’m tempted to give it a try since FO3 ran at a constant 55-60FPS on the top settings and now there’s single digit FPS during fights in FNV.

Is there a house to get like in Fallout 3 so you can stash your shit?

The Wife surprised me with this game tonight when she got home from work. Im gonna start playing in just a little bit. Im stoked. Im ready for all the glitches and shit. I dont give a fuck about that crap, I just wanna blast stuff and make my character super buff. MUAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Don’t start Hardcore mode bro, it is so fucking hard. :frowning: I’m grinding gecko’s right now for money and xp just to get past the NCR mental hospital.

You can store stuff in footlockers but I would only recommend putting it in the Docs house as if you put it someplace else I don’t think it is guaranteed to be there when you come back.

Yes, a lot as a matter of fact. Do sidequests in Novac for one of the easier places to get. Or you could just use Jean’s Skydiving or the Highway Patrol Station after you clear them out.

I dunno how people say this is a DLC. In that case, every single sequel or game that uses a similar engine to another game is a DLC. This is about as different as you can get while being a part of the same series and being generally consistent. I mean Castlevania LOS is either a DLC for God of War or it’s not a Castlevania game. Starcraft II is just a 10 years later DLC for Starcraft I.

So dumb.

Most of the people saying it’s a DLC haven’t even played the game, since it just came out Tuesday and people have been claiming that for months.

I completed the game earlier today. There are most likely a minimum of 3 endings, with a lot of different variations between them that probably up it to at least a dozen or more sub ending type stories. I did the House ending.

I completed it on hardcore and don’t know what the bonus is for finishing it, I think it’s just an achievement. I doubt I will play hardcore again because it was more annoying than hard.

Guns, especially in VATS mode, really suck now. They are almost always guaranteed to miss at least one shot out of every 3, even if it says 95% on the screen. Energy is probably the way to go yet again because it generally gives you more shots, has lower STR requirements (although that won’t matter too much probably, just get a 6), and ammo is far easier to recycle (for guns, you need 4 different things to recycle, with energy it’s just the ammo itself and that’s it). It seems smarter to queue up a ton of shots and bank on crits to do your damage, especially since crits will go right through armor anyway.

If you get the chance to assault a Brotherhood bunker by yourself…uh…don’t do that. Well I mean I guess you could, I did, but that was by far the hardest part of the game for me. Instead…just agree to give up your armor and weaponry and just talk to them instead. Personally at some point I decided I was no longer going to turn over my weapons to go inside someplace, and just started shooting everything up instead. You can definitely power through if you want in this game, although your companions will of course die pathetically like usual, since they always suck.

Really? I’m not having any trouble with VATS. My guns skill is maxed right now though, energy weapons is next since I’ve found several unique laser and plasma rifles.

There’s a autosave and quicksave bug on the PC version, I guess steam version since that’s what I’m using.

I keep losing game time, whenever I use autosave and quicksave it keeps reverting back to the saves before the patch.

Just going through now looting all the places I did at the start before I had my room.

I stopped playing and deleted all of my save files.

I’m not going to run the game again, until they patch the save bug issues.

Be careful of a quest called “Come Fly With Me” cause that’s one of the common things that cause this bug. Some are saying there’s a story quest that involves a vault that does it too.

My quicksave and autosave dont update when I save, and even when I delete the files, the game creates new ones with the same old save files from way back before I started the quest.

And now, I’ve been reading about manual saves deleting themselves too, and it being related to a space suit.

Haha, trust me dude, it was tested. You’re looking at a game that is multi-platform (very hard to test) and when it comes to certain bugs, can be hard to reproduce. You can find bugs all day as a player, but can you reproduce them 10/10 and give steps to a programmer or designer to fix?

Harder than it sounds, trust me. Plus you can never underestimate the player; they’ll do things that a QA team will never think of.

hahah the legion sounds hella hardcore. decimation eh? that’s some ruthless shit. if i wasn’t playing such a goody goody two shoes character, i’d totally go legion style
