Fallout: New Vegas

If you have Windows 7 Ultimate just use XP Compatibility mode… works perfectly for me everytime.

Have you had problems with Windows 7 and wireless compatibility? That’s weird. I’ve had no problems with that at all. Are you sure that’s not a router thing?

Girlfriend got me the game last week and have been playing the hell out of it. Right now I’m on my second playthrough and am taking my time with this one, but from what I’ve experience, I have not had a single crash within 40 hours of gameplay, or any other major glitches such as save corruptions or broken quests. The most I’ve experienced is typical random physic glitches or controls lagging out for whatever reason but that’s it.

One question is that has anyone had a good experience with guns? They have all pretty much given no results but melee and unarmed almost seems godly and I’m like 24 unarmed. Or is that a typical glitch in the game also? I find it funny that I lose tons of life fighting off fiends with shotguns or rifles but “Love and Hate” flat out destroys almost anything that aren’t Deathclaws or Canzadrea (sp?) heh

i dunno about guns, they seem good, but then again i have veronica in my party and she just kills everything before i can even fire off a few rounds. now if only she could cook me dinner and wash my clothing too.

speaking of which, do your followers gain levels and experience along with you?

All companions but Veronica do level with you; she’s either bugged (or by design) to always be level 12

wtf? maximum gay. well she’s so OP I guess that’s alright. only thing that’s killed her so far was a swarm of golden geckos, but i don’t have any good armor to give her yet. sounds like Boone is the most OP companion wise but role playing wise didn’t feel like joining up with him. probably some other playthrough.

The latest patch fixes Veronica. She levels up with you now. Rex got buffed, he has higher DT so he doesn’t die as easily anymore.

They also nerfed companion stats like STR so their carry weights might be lower but I haven’t confirmed that myself yet.

Don’t think there’s an official complete changelog but the wiki seems to be updated as changes are discovered.

I’ll prob wait until all future planned DLCs come to PC to start a new game. I did all the FO3 DLCs when my character was maxed level and they were too easy.

Boone is OP. With 10 CHA he snipes stuff 200 yards away in one shot and it just cuts to things dying and my getting experience… literally I never know what the hell he shoots it just dies…

Veronica though is pretty boss. She can wear power armor, she punches things hard (and unarmed is SOOO good in this game…) oh and as an energy weapons guy having a living workbench to recycle ammo all the time isn’t bad either! I just wish she’d turn into Codex and heal me every once in a while…

I tried the re-install and I got a crash again. I did the compatability thing and didn’t crash, although I didn’t test long. But I’m about to stick XP on here anyway. It’ll mean I have to re-install stuff, but I hadn’t installed everything anyway so no big.

EDIT-Windows 7 was way easier to install, I didn’t actually have to install any drivers outside of the vidcard. But even the vidcard was pretty solid without the driver.

I can say for sure it’s definitely the wireless card for those problems. I had a feeling it was and that I should RMA it, but the thing cost $28 to buy, and I think it’d cost $10 just to return, and then 15% stocking fee, it’d be a $15 return afterwards. Although money isn’t something you should ever just ignore, in this case, I think I will just throw the card in a box somewhere and just not think about it. I will purchase a USB adapter from microcenter within the next couple of days instead.

Since I of course don’t have net access on the new comp now, I will have to transfer files using my HDD enclosure and other somewhat boring tools to transfer. Oh well, it could be worse.

I guess I will find out soon if my other crashing problems were win 7 or something else haha.

Update: Well, it wasn’t Windows 7, that’s for sure. I believe my case isn’t doing a good job of cooling. I have an air filter for the front so I took that out, and I stuck in another case fan on the side. So now I have the front and side fans pulling air in, as well as the PSU fan blowing from the bottom. I have the top and back fans going out. I set everything to medium speed.

I think also my overclock might not have been stable. I am going to run furmark for 1 hour now. I down volted back to normal voltage and also dropped 25 mhz off of my OC. I’ve left the memory clocks at their normal speeds.

At some point I might go back to 7, although I will probably wait for an SP2 first. I still need a USB network adapter as well, I should probably get that today. The stock HSF is kinda loud on this so I figured I might as well put the fans on medium, but I bet I will get annoyed with that by some point and replace the HSF and drop everything down to low again. The problem is I am not sure how to tell when the heat isn’t being dissipated correctly. My graphics card and CPU are all at good temps under load, so I don’t really understand too much why I get problems at some point. I left my fan on auto and maybe that’s the problem for the video card. I guess if it suddenly spikes up the fan isn’t quick enough to keep up? Maybe I should autoset the fan to 50…it is at 40 regularly and 51 on furmark is what it goes up to. I figured I was being conservative with the OC so it shouldn’t have been a problem, but perhaps I screwed it up.

Edit on Gameplay: The bars really do go down slowly on Hardcore mode. I think my box glitched if the rates are supposed to be the same, as they are somewhat unnoticeable actually as they are. I never had to really sleep on xbox either, but whenever I slept I’d wake up starving and dehydrated.

I think game’s purchased through Steam, work on vista and 7 without a problem. You could just get Knights of the Old Republic via steam and run it. I bought it for like $2.50 a couple months ago, and haven’t installed it yet, but it’ll work. I had installed Fallout 1 and 2 from steam, and those both worked.

Get Steam. like I’ve been saying. It’s good.

lol I locked Veronica in the mongrel pen so she doesn’t die. WTF though, she doesn’t get a custom ending?

Legate is no match for sneak (stealthboy) + anti-material rifle. lol. 95% off his HP on the first hit and he still didn’t know where I was because of the stealth boy. Kinda sucks you can’t use the blade of the east and that bad ass legate mask.

Also the NCR ending is bullshit, I think I’m going purely anti-NCR next playthrough. Where do you get those shiny NCR ranger armors anyway? All other armors look like crap in the game.

You mean the rebuilt NCR power armors with -2 agility or the awesome Ranger armors on those who escort the prez? When I pissed off the NCR they sent one of those bad-ass looking rangers after me, along with some others.

The regular ranger one. All the other armors look old except that one. Can you wear your own hat with it? I guess I could get one from a dead ranger but whenever I needed to call a ranger for help it always says I’m out of range. lol even inside the stupid Hoover Dam.

EDIT:
started my 2nd playthrough and it looks like the yangtze cemetery contents are random as I didn’t get an incinerator this time (or maybe I got it somewhere else but forgot), nevertheless I survived the Cazador area by luring the radscorpions to their area then running away. lol, It was a bitch to do though (no matter what you do, don’t stop runnign and don’t look back. at 6 agility and no armor you can only run fast enough not to get stung. There were two Cazadors left (I think here are 8 Cazadors and 6 radscoprions) and they followed me all the way to the Gang area but I just kept on running and luckily there are some wild bullhorners nearby and they actually took care of the remaining gang members. It’s great how normal enemies seem to have problems killing those bull horners but they are easy to kill for the main character.

So the Dead Money DLC is out right? I will get it, but my gaming time has been limited as of late.

Damn that trailer for it looks hot as well

Not what I expected. Heres hoping to a PC release sooner rather than later (after the exclusive time period)

I beat the game via Yes Man. I haven’t played a game this long since FFXII. Next time the enemies need to be harder, or maybe I should not try to be so buff.

Well power loss killed XP Pro for me, since I have to re-install anyway might as well go to 7 x64 to get DX11. New Vegas doesn’t have that option though.

Before losing my OS I did beat it with House again. I took the Explorer perk so I know where a lot more places are. I cleared out Deathwind Caverns…and, well, I don’t think that Legendary Deathclaw was as strong as I thought it’d be. I couldn’t really use YC6 in that tight of a spot, especially since I had Meltdown perk and I kept injuring myself and my followers. I used This Machine and honestly with JSP rounds and head shots that thing will cut apart even deathclaws if you’re at a good level and have good perks. I’m actually a huge fan of those reload and equip perks as they really do make a noticeable difference.

You can still kind of horde ammo in this game, but you have to pretty much pick one type. You can’t really hope to carry multiple weapons on you. MFC is also just a tad too heavy. .308s are common enough and the JSPs good enough that I think a good route to go is Gobi/This Machine (runs on same ammo) and Pushy. I know Ballistic does more damage on paper, but I ALWAYs get better results with Pushy for some reason. I have no way of checking but I think it’s a faster swing and a better hit box.

They need to start releasing the DLCs I guess. I’m sure by the end of the last DLC this game will feel totally different and be more fun. Maybe less buggy too.

I know we discussed this before but I just can not believe the meters go down at the same rate on PC and Xbox. It just seems like Xbox hardcore meters are set way faster so that the game is extremely annoying. PC is set so low you can barely notice it. An average between the two might be perfect.

My only gripe with this game isn’t the game itself it’s more me having an almost uncontrollable tendency to start over because I always feel like I’m just not doing something right when it comes to my character. I guess I’m just used to Fallout 3 where shit was really fucking easy as where here, things are a bit of a challenge. I try to do my own thing and avoid character builds but fuck I just never feel like I “got it” and get frustrated. This happen to anyone else? No? Ok. /pointless rant

Yup. Welcome to a real Fallout game. Try playing the first two, you’re a lot more restricted and there are more styles of character builds.

Haha, I was used to Fallout 2, so when I got to Vegas it ‘made sense,’ but I can definitely imagine it being difficult for someone who isn’t focused on a particular set of perks, skills, and SPECIAL stats. When I first started FO NV I played my classic cowardly sniper (guns) with 9 endurance, intelligence, and luck, and have had no troubles with the game.

Get 10 Cha and pick up boone: easy mode

Even on hardcore I never lost him to death outside of stupid things like him taking a stupid pathing through deathclaws
