I never had to grind xp in 3 and I maxed out everything on my character. All I did was quest and explore, shit I never even finished up the main quest line. That made it boring for me though. I was maxed out and getting nothing for everything I was doing so I started over and played on easy so I would get less experience and all the exploring and what not that I did had a little meaning to it. Mindless blasting for xp that doesnt do anything or loot that has no meaning anymore is no fun to me.
Im doing a quest now at some place called Helios One. Im almost done with it but I just cant decided where to rout the power. In dnd terms I guess I would consider my character chaotic neutral. Mostly just lookin’ out for himself, but will help others if benefits him. So im wondering if routing power evenly everywhere will open up some more options in some other towns and shit.
p.s. I was having problems with Cazadores at first, but then I realized I could just shoot one of them in the antenna to frenzy him then I had an ally for a short time. And if you set up the battle right you get all the xp for the other baddies that your new ally kills. hehe
Are you guys fighting one deathclaw at a time? I am jealous, the one time I ran into them (before the quarry) they were in groups of three. I saved and tried to fuck them up but I got destroyed. I will go back when I level up for revenge.
The bugs I’ve run into have been game breaking and have ruined 2 entire playthroughs completely, even with backup saves. That is aside from other bugs that would just set me back because I’d have to reload.
So yes, the bugs kill the experience for me entirely. I’ve done virtually everything except the last 10-15 minutes of the Legion quest line. Those are my remaining achievements left for me to get the 1000/1000 for this game on xbox. Eventually I might try it again after a sufficient break and just rush through it and hope it doesn’t die again before I can finish.
And by virtually everything I also mean the side quests and some unmarked quests, with the notable exceptions being the Quarry and Deathwind Cavern, which I believe I’ll need Guns, probably the Gobi or Anti-Material to complete. Maybe some stealthboys too. Not sure how else to take down those deathclaws. Especially that Legendary one, which I’m not sure how I will beat even with the Guns. There are probably a few more things I missed, but I explored as much of the northern half of the map as I could and quite a bit of the southern, although I was not quite as thorough on the southern half.
One thing that does annoy me is that Very Hard doesn’t have an XP modifier. I feel like you deserve that XP modifier and I personally would prefer to level up quicker and pick more perks. For me that’s the character customization component and a large part of the fun for me. As it is, especially since I’m afraid it will just crash and be unplayable, I just don’t level up all that much. Since I don’t even care for a lot of the perks and the level ups don’t give me much, I don’t even care. I don’t feel there is all that much of a difference now, your character is similarly weak at higher levels but just has more HP.
Cazadores are some mother fuckers. >:d I think I hate them more than the Deathclaws at this point. Most times with the DCs, I encounter them at a good enough range where I can put them down before they approach me. Get the first sneak attack critical, then between Boone, EZ-E and myself we can take them down. It’s soooo much easier now that I have the Sniper Rifle. Cazadores swarming you seems to come out of nowhere though. I’ll usually be in some area, like going up a mountain or a cliff, where there won’t be that much seperation. They move so fast and there stings take off sooo much damage. I’ve found that shooting them in the wings helps alot though, it takes a ton of their health off and stuns them for a bit.
Deathwind Canyon was scary as fuck. lol Ton of DCs in a tiny area. I actually managed to clear it out, again, totally thanks to the Sniper Rifle. I got killed by the Legendary twice, before I put it down. I got the sneak crit on it, then after that I think I just backed up and kept taking potshots at it. I think it went after Boone first cuz he was closer so that bought me some time while it was murdering it to hit it a few more times. I got a headshot in VATS on it before it raped me and put it down. ^^’’
VATS has been really useful to me. I took the perk for improved headshot accuracy and the one for better accuracy with rifles. Whenever enemies get close, I just pop into vats, line up five or so headshots with my rifle and then just blow their fucking heads off. I’ve got my Guns up to like 75, apparently I need it at 100 for perfect use of the Marksman Carbine … which I guess probably just amounts to not shaking alot in aim mode?
I would like it if I didnt get more xp from playing it on harder modes. Thats how I end up being maxed out before im even half way done with the game. Sure I like being a super badass, just not in every game. This game isnt one of those. As far as im concerned my character is just a regular dude who got set up and is now wandering the wastes lookin’ to better his existance and find the people that did him wrong. rpg style for real
Haven’t played NV in a minute mainly because I feel like I just can’t get the right build for myself. I always feel like something is falling off to the wayside. Im sure this is normal but it just frustrates me. It’s Fallout 3 all over again. It took me forever to figure out wtf I wanted to do and I hate relying on user made builds. :shake:
There’s two in the Vault 34 armory. They are in shit condition though and cost about 6k to repair (if your barter is low like mine). You can also buy one at the Gun Runners store outside westside and an Anti Materiel Rifle (50 cal). Make sure you pick up the silencer for the sniper rifle as well so you can take out enemies/npcs with no one noticing or risking neg rep.
lol, i remember the first time i encountered cazadores, i was like, they’re just giant flies, this is no problem.
i took out one without it getting close, then i turned around and i was getting fucking SWARMED. this was near vault 22 on hardcore mode; cass died immediately and then i was out seconds later. i was like, jesus h christ!
i’ve definitely died more to cazadores than anything else in the game thus far.
Tanner - Ah, I think I just noticed that Vault on my map the other day. I’ll get there sometime, there are a few other places I would like to check out before I go there.
Weeks - Word, the first time I encountered those things I thought the same thing. I saw a Young Cazador and thought, look at the stupid, puny bug. POW POW POW “damn that didnt even hurt him” bzzzzzz! thing is up in my face almost instantly THWAK “Oh shit im almost dead” THWAK WACK SMACK Dun! Dun! Dun! Then there is like 1 Cazadore and 3 Young Cazadore’s flying around my corpse.
Now I just climb somewhere where they cant get me and shoot one of them in the antennae till he’s frenzied, then I just bust on the next one closest to it so I get the xp for that one. When its almost dead I either start shooting my new ally or I bust on the next closest bug and make another ally.
I dont know, when Im just walking around exploring I tend to stare at my little compass, watching out for red dots. Once I see one I click the crouch button and sneak around till I can see the baddies then I figure out how to take them down from there. Its really slow when I fight because I take a lot of time picking out the right place to fight.
p.s. My character is a sneaky gun totting thief. So naturally I use a silenced gun to frenzy those bastards.
If you have 100 lock pick you can pick a lock at the “Sniper’s Nest” for the unique version of the sniper rifle. < The weapon is really good for Deathclaws!!
lol I was telling Slide about this when I first got the game, a few days before release. I told him the Cazadores were lethal and would swarm you when he asked me about enemy tactics. I told him how they angle around and cut off your retreats.
The problem isn’t that things don’t do damage, it’s that the guns don’t really do damage. That’s why I keep telling you guys to try Unarmed. It just doesn’t work against Deathclaws is all. Mostly because they too are Unarmed. But an Unarmed character on Very Hard on Hardcore mode with Pushy will make fairly short work of them. I don’t really like Hardcore mode but it’s actually not too bad with Unarmed honestly. And since I hate my followers anyway, I don’t care that they die within 5 seconds of their first fight with me.
I happen to like the damage trade-off for staying at range. I don’t do AS MUCH damage as if I was running into battle with a Ballistic Fist, but on the other hand I don’t die anywhere near as often.
That’s why I’m playing a more D+D Ranger style character now = tag Guns, Speech and Unarmed. Get a Sneak Crit with the Gobi or AM Rifle, take down one or two more before they get to me, then finish the rest off.
I unintentionally made this game way too easy. With Boone, ED-E, and a 10 charisma, Boone snipes stuff that I don’t even know exists. Boone and ED single handled have fought two deathclaws at once, we’ve killed scores of cazadores, I even went up north and got the unique Gauss Rifle from the mercenary camp (Since I’m an energy weapons kind of guy, which is NOT the way to go in FO:NV, not enough ammo…if any of you have ideas where to get more energy and microfusion cells easily, let me know, I got a bunch of energy cells doing the Helios ONE quest, I only wish I had set it so that I could use the Archimedes orbital weapon…). The Gauss Rifle also counts as a sniper rifle if you’re interested.
BTW, I’m only level 8 now. Boone is just ridiculous…
Haha that’s easy. Energy doesn’t suck because of a lack of ammo, it sucks because the damage isn’t there.
You should be able to get about 1000 MF Cells in Repconn HQ. You should be able to pick up another 1k (along with some ECs) by cleaning out the various fiend camps around NV (NWish) and cleaning out their Vault (it’s inside some “town” type area, also filled with fiends). You would have about 2k or so after all that. And that’s without that Scrounger perk (if that still exists) which would probably about double your take I’m assuming.
This is also what made me give up Hardcore mode, as these things weigh .1 lbs and it literally would have taken me several trips of dumping off ammo to clear these places. You can kinda spread it out a bit with your companions though if they don’t die, but it’s still irritating imo.
I wound up eventually turning everything into MC ammo, but it still sucked.
Maybe the unique Gauss sucks less, I never found it though. I’d rather have the Alien Blaster but don’t want to waste a trait on that either. Plus Alien cells are probably very limited in this game, even more so than FO3.
Also, you will get a replenishing supply if the Brotherhood like you, they have it set up in a crate as you walk in.
140 damage? Holy shitcocks. I think that’s probably less than the Anti-Materiel Rifle, but you can probably fire a ton more shots more quickly looking at the DPS.
So is there an improved scope for the Sniper Rifle? I was a little disappointed that it’s level of zoom was about the same as my Marksman Carbine.
