Fallout: New Vegas

I can tell you’re like me and don’t read manuals

yeah boone put an immediate damper on my ‘join the legion’ plans

Thing is, Boone is probably just a liiittle bit too legendary. He can clear a room before i can think about which gun to use… not that i’m complaining, but it does make me think that i could never use another Human companion.

i went ahead and stuck with cass. she’s not nearly as good, but i like the whisky perk. i rolled on a low-str build so i was constantly downing whiskey to compensate.

Veronica gets stuck in inaccessible locations, goes into permanent runaway, and probably some other shit too. You can use her if you want, but just be aware that you might have to put her down, permanently, to continue with the game.

Trying to get some cash for now to hook Boone up with an anti-material rifle.

So I made my decision last night

House

Spoiler

So I went to his computer to check out whats up. Had no idea it would be a legion camp, I took the raft there but I just thought it was NEAR a legion camp. Nope, right in the heart.

Since I killed Benny and took the chip, Caeser never took the chip from me or anything. I went there to talk with him per the invite on the strip, but since me and boone cleared out that camp Cottonwood manly style, I guess his invite was nullified.

I dressed up as Legion, and went to their camp. Funnily enough, Boone held his cool and didn’t actually attack anyone. A couple of times people would mention something about “slaves did this etc etc” and boone would literally give them such a mad dog look by turning, staring, and standing still right towards him. Dunno if that was programmed intentionally but it was pretty awesome.

I snuck through, went to the vault, and imagine my surprise when Mr House was waiting for me, considering this was supposed to be behind his back. Go through the vault, clear out the bots, start up the war machine bot army with my chip. He assumed Caeser was in on it because there’s no way I’d be able to get in there unless it was by Caesers allowance (oh house, won’t you quit underestimating me?)

On my way out, Boone starts losing it and fucking blasting whatever legion he can. I had to reload once because he took on like 4-5 and died, but the second time he got into it with one of them and then nobody else came to help their buddy. I guess Legion aren’t too concerned with helping eachother. Once that fight was over we fast traveled out of there back to the strip.

Went up to see Mr House. Got into an argument with him over me not handing the chip over. I spent 200 years blah blah blah whining. Searched his place, found his secret entrance, dodged some bots to get down there, opened that fucker up from his cryogenic sleep, had a chat, and then disconnected his old sorry ass from the computer system but left him alive.

Theres a new sheriff in town, and we’re gonna do things my way now

Pretty awesome so far

When I first ran into the legion (Nipton), I decided to kill them all. Now it seems like they are tracking me. Did I do something retarded? These dudes are kinda buff for me right now. The only way I killed them was with the Incinerator and I left it at a house (its heavy). I have a stealth boy so at least I can lay low. But damn, this is stressful lol.

That shit sounds fun, that’s the type of stuff I enjoy out of the game, it’s fun stress.

I’m at Nellis AFB right now, trying to convince the town to side their boomers with Mr. House. I think I’m close to the end of the game. I’m about 10 hours in. I’m fast tracking the game for my first playthrough, and then I’ll just create characters that do different sidequests and stuff.

Glitches aside(cause they’ll get fixed), I enjoy New Vegas much more than 3 because a lot of the little things, plus this game’s story reminds me a lot of the types of books I enjoy to read, that deal in capers.

I dunno how you’d ever get the 10k Food achievement. I’ve been purposely getting beat up on Very Hard mode for the stims, and I’m still under 8k over 30 hours in. The pick pocket achievement is a bitch too and I think the explosives one will suck as well. I found a list for the Sunset Sarsaparilla caps, so I’ll probably work off that towards the end of this playthrough. I have a save at a good point to finish for the Yes Man series of quests after I finish NCR on this one. I really think some of these achievements are really retarded, and I’m not sure why I’m even trying for them. I still have never gotten the Steel Ingots and Alien Recordings achievements from FO3 (I got everything else though).

I will try to get all the achievements except the Legion quests and Explosion and Melee before starting a new game, then just shoot for those 3 to finish it off. I want to play Force Unleashed II and Fable III so I’m going to try and get myself to take a break from NV. Plus I stopped working out and I’ve been skipping out on OT pay to play this.

lol, boone’s fucking crazy. I have to send his ass back to Novac any time I had to go deal with the legion. Otherwise when you go to the fort, you suddenly see heads exploding all over the place. I’m siding with the legion (melee/explosives character) which means I’m only going to be able to use Boone in side quests, or he’ll just start capping my allies.

Yea, if you get hated by the legion they send assassins after you every couple of days or so while you are traveling the wasteland. If you continue the main quest until you find and talk to bennie, you will get a pardon from caesar from one of his messengers and you won’t be hated again.

I will probably need Boone’s services soon, or maybe Veronica. I have T-51b armor, Stonewall, 1 rank Toughness, 410 HP, I’m on Level 27. I walked up to 2 Deathclaws and they killed me while I was in VATs mode with I believe were 2 claw swipes.

I then popped myself with Buffout, Med X, Psycho and Jet. With the very liberal use of stimpacks I was able to fend off about 5-6 more Deathclaws, while running away and trying to only fight one at a time. I have now gotten very close to that Stimpack perk incidentally. I could probably even get the food one if I didn’t think I’d just croak while waiting for it to heal.

But I have to somehow kill the Alpha and Mother Deathclaws and I’m sure they’re surrounded by a few more.

Well the game glitched again. Now I can’t turn. I can only head straight. I haven’t saved for awhile either…I just need to complete one more mission to finish this quest line too.

What a gay game.

one major glitch i’ve run into that REALLY pissed me off.
i had ed-e, and was fast travelling between a bunch of places, then suddenly notice he isn’t following anymore.
i went back to the last couple places i had been, but i just done alot of travelling and had no idea where i lost him.
a while later, a window pops up saying that i’ve lost his perk, and he’s returned to primm.
i think, ok awesome.
so i go to pick him up, and he’s in homicidal killbot mode, shooting the NPCs and me.
had to put him down and lost his quest.
lame.

i’ve noticed that the companions in general seem glitchy.

oh and you can have 1 human and 1 robot companion at a time.
there are only 2 robots though.
and yes, boone is AMAZING.
only reason i’m not using him at the moment is to do the other companion’s quests.

i can’t seem to figure out how to get to the western part of the map.
seems like all the ways in are blocked with wreckage.

Deathclaws don’t play.

I don’t know if I’m feeling the nerfed VATs. Especially not with Mysterious Stranger and Miss Fortune. I keep getting glitches where they stick around, so I’m stuck in VATs for 30 seconds with anything I didn’t kill wailing on me.

I’m kinda proud of Obsidian for making this game, and it makes me sad seeing the reviewers bash it because of the bugs, even if it is mostly justified.

For me like Fallout 3, most things are joke in this game once you get maxed out with guns (or enegery weapons if thats your choice) and start sniping shit. I annhilated the entire quarry of deathclaws just by getting up on one of the treadmills on the side and sniping everything I saw. Sniping outside of vats is VASTLY superior in this game. I one shot most shit I line up a headshot on in outside of vats. Even the Alpha Male Deathclaw went down in two.

Granted I am also built for a straight up sneaking/crit build at range. But this formula makes any content in the wide open world a joke. I actually kill far more shit than boone does in these situations. I was really surprised to see this build really wasn’t nerfed down from FO3, other than Vats just isn’t as strong now.

If you are doing a sniper route, and aren’t going energy for the anti-material rifle, the Gobi Sniper Rifle in the lockbox at the sniper’s nest is godlike.

Anyone have any hints for clearing out a brotherhood base? ( i regret siding with ceasar ). My guy is all melee and unarmed, I think im level 11, ive killed like 20 of them but it seems like theres 10 more that all have gauss rifles ( which fucking murder you btw ).

yeah i beat the deathclaw quarry by sitting at long range and picking them off with a silenced sniper rifle at extreme distances. sneak attack criticals over and over = owned deathclaws

no VATs needed.

on my first play through, i played a generic good guy with no real thought towards roleplaying or thinking up a background for him. this time, though, i decided i’d play a ‘bad’ guy whose wife was killed in the NCR attack on bitter springs, and wants to join the legion so he can kill NCR guys

If you play a badass character who maxes out their combat skills, isn’t it good you can go out and feel like a badass? I don’t quite understand the complaint, I mean if I maxed out all my combat skills and still felt weak at combat, that would be worthy of a complaint.

Personally I have decent guns skills (75ish) and Melee Weapons (75ish) but maxed out my speech (100) and a good barter (55ish). I sweet talk my way through all kinds of shit, get discounts all over, it really feels way awesome. But to think that the point of the game is to go out and be able to kill everything is a bit of a narrow view, so I wouldn’t call it overpowered at all.

Also I’d recommend a higher level than 11 to take on an entire brotherhood base, just to get some better perks

My first character has gun and energy weapons maxed, along with speech, sneak, lockpick. Killing deathclaws in the quarry was easy mode, one headshot when out of vats with the guass rifle or anti-materiel rifle killed the queen and alpha deathclaws. For some reason using vats is weaker and it would take 2 headshots to finish them.

With my unarmed/explosives character I cant just rush in or I get hurt bad. I have to be a little more crafty and set up mines then pull the deathclaws with a rocket or grenade launcher, by the time they get to me they are barely alive. I’m not sure melee or unarmed alone are enough to deal with deathclaws in this game. Which is weird because unarmed seems OP as hell when dealing with every other enemy in the game.

Pimp Willy, maxing all the combat skills just gives you more weapon variety.

I agree.

But it’s just a case of people playing and enjoying the game for different reasons. Fallout 3 and New Vegas have done a good job of being able to attract different types of gamers though.

Personally, I get the most enjoyment out of these WRPGs when I get immersed in what I created, playing the world. Might be the same for you too. Also, it’s only been like this for me for about a year(I used to just play and try to destroy these games maxed and stuff), and I have the inclusion of mods(Oblivion and Fallout 3) to thank for that bringing the best out of this kind of RPG perspective and experience. I’m talking about immersion increasing mods, where they just make little things better. For example, the hardcore mod in New Vegas was based on an FO3 mod that made the game super immersive with the food and drink at the time. I can appreciate how you can start with absolutely nothing, and then make yourself godlike if you choose to or not.

There was this one mod in Fallout 3, it was a perk that allowed you to wear different disguises and blend in. So if you had your character wear raider gear, then you blended in with the raiders, and with Talon co. gear, the same, and so on and so forth. I played a few sidequests with a created character, and instead of taking the deperk(?) and having negative side effect stats and waiting to level 20 to have access to the perk to use disguises, I just used the console command to start the game with the perk. Cause my character used disguises.

Seems as if New Vegas just makes playing the game this way even better, with how there’s so many factions to join, and so many different ways to complete stories in quests even moreso, than 3. And, how you can wear different gear and blend in(or not) in this game too. Besides the bugs, man they did such a great job with this game.

yeah, if you max out combat skills and have super powerful weapons, of course you’re going to annihilate most of your opponents. that’s kind of the point of maxing out those skills. i can’t count the number of times i couldn’t do what i wanted because i failed a speech check, barter check, couldn’t pick a lock, hack a terminal, medicine check, etc. there was a significant price to pay for specializing in guns and such. and this game, more than fallout 3, really gives you incentive to have those other skills
