Yeah, I see a lot of really awesome Speechcraft bonuses that I always have like a 9% chance of succeeding at. The game seems to flaunt all the things you can’t do at you. Didn’t choose lockpicking? Prepare to not see tons of rooms and not open tons of boxes! Didn’t choose Science? I guess you’ll never find out what those computers could do for you, or ever activate a robot. In fact, it seems that the combat skills are really some of the weakest in the game when you consider that a Science/Lockpicking/Speechcraft char could explore a lot more dimensions.
Yeah unfortunately my combat skills are low so it is harder for me to fight raiders especially in large groups. Usually end up using VATS picking off exposed body parts, running away and repeating.
See, I don’t have that problem at all. My Small Guns skill is at 70, I aim at a head with a hunting rifle and pop it like a pimple. That also becomes problematic, though, with two combat skills (Explosives and Small Arms) so far I’ve found little combat-wise to challenge me. At close range, I took out the Steel Brotherhood Outcasts pretty quickly. I’m finding myself enjoying the world less though because I didn’t take some of those points and put them in Science/Speechcraft.
you should just keep taking the perk that gives you more skill points. Then you can be the uber-mensch.
So far Im pretty balanced, I took lockpicking, medicine and melee as my mains. But I just put a bit into each of them, it seems to work out. Having a high melee makes combat pretty easy. Find some cover, attract your prey, beat the crap out of them, repeat, take a little small guns to get the sniper rifle and pick off the assholes with shotguns, boom game over.
I really want to get more into the repair stuff, but I don’t know how useful it is, its pretty easy to find tons of weapons to buy… but I guess I couldn’t make the schematics stuff unless you can bring shit to someone and they will make it for you.
Most of you have probably noticed this but you can use the large metal trashbins as temporary storage. I put a bunch of raider shit in there and sold them off instead of having to drop them.
High small guns, sniper rifle, sneak, 100% chance to crit.
“Successfully attacking while undetected grants an automatic critical hit” or something in the description of sneak.
Small guns, repair, stealth.
I did the quest where you had to deliver the letter to the boy quest. It was pretty neat. I actually saved the boy, help create a treaty, and earned the ability to get health from bloodpacks.
Go me!
This game is great! Though I have to agree that it does mock you inability to do something. It makes me want to get those skills though.
Yeah, you don’t need to fight anyone, just show him the letter from his sister. So far I’m really liking it. My only issue is being able to keep track of all the places I have been. Navigating is more compilation also with all the subways and tunnels and shit.
North east of the hideout that the guy marked on your map, its a train station good luck.
So I’m kind of annoyed by Dogmeat, he always gets in my way when I enter buildings, they need to patch that. Is it just me or is he completely resistant to land mines? He’s a hauss thats for sure.
I picked Medical Lockpicking and Explosives, I just used what the goat gave me, and I’ve been putting points in to small arms and energy weapons.
Laser rifles in the previous games had the best range and medium to high damage (Plasma Rifle beats it out) so heres to hoping that it’ll pay off mid to late game with retarded damage. Combine that with Sniper, Better Criticals and Finesse and it’s going to be nothing short of absurd in the end or at least I hope so.
Anybody on the Greyditch mission? THese Fire Ant Warriors are kicking my ass and even if I stay back and pick them off it takes FOREVER.
Excellent game so far. I didn’t think much about VATS until I actually tried it, now i’m using that about 90% of the time over running and gunning. I love how shooting an enemy in the arm when he’s holding a two handed weapon makes him drop it. I aim for the head most of the time, but I find aiming at the other limbs can be just as useful given the circumstances.
And the Fat Man, oh god the Fat Man…
The first time I got one of those and fired it off was against the Behemoth. I booted up VATS with an 80% chance only to watch the mini nuke sail ever so elegently underneath his armpit, missing the large target completely
