Fallout 3

Have you guys played the first two Fallouts?

If not, you should. They are free.

Has jack shit to do with Oblivion.

/Fallout 1&2 Fanboyism in full effect

Cant wait for this killer shit!

Elder scrolls oblivion is one of the very few toptier next gen titles I haven’t ever played. From what I heard and have seen it looks like a great game and fallout3 looks like a much better post-apoc version of oblivion which is a good thing I’m sure.

Definitely copping this.

Free where

Fallout 1 and 2 are two of the best RPGs to come out in the 90’s. While I love Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, those games never felt like ‘role-playing games’ to me. To me, an RPG should have more freedom of decision than a (traditionally Japanese) role playing game.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s tons of decision-making in Final Fantasy 7. However, none of it is anything other than combat-related decision making. You basically get really buff and then go where the story tells you to go. That’s it.

Fallout 1 & 2 have options like wiping out any NPC you come into contact with. Everyone has a stat list like you might imagine. You’re attacking some farmer? He’s probably gonna pull out a shotgun and defend his farm if you piss him off right. You can also accept/refect quests. That’s a very refreshing feeling, it’s not a string of bullshit you have to do, it’s a world you operate in according to your rules.

I like having skills that help me operate inside of my environment, too. Skills like stealth or science or athletics. These all help me feel like my character is something a bit more ‘fleshed out’ and not just a monkey who waits for a fight.

I’m really glad that Bethesda is making this game. I just watched the gameplay vids and HOOOLY SHIT. I am purchasing it the day of and am probably requesting off work for that day. It will more than likely be my favorite game of 2008 unless Spore comes out this year.

Yeah. The open-endedness of the first two games was awesome. You could literally kill any NPC you wanted, in different ways as well. In addition to this, the quests that you can accept could be completed in different ways as well, which is fun as it can test your creativeness [though this was not true for all].

Also, your stats [strength/intelligence/perception/etc] would oftentimes influence the choices you could make in-game as well, like breaking a door down [which still pisses me off to this day, the vast majority of doors are fucking invulnerable to almost anything in the game], or a conversation path that would determine whether the conversation would end amicably or turn into a brawl.

Play the first two, they’re pretty fun.

I really hope all the skills get utilized a lot in 3. Putting points into Science seemed really useless for 90% of the first two Fallouts. I love the voice acting that’s going on in Fallout 3 for sure, though. That black dude who just comes up to you like “FUCK YOU BITCH” is awesome.

Watch the Goddamn gameplay demo.

The Strength Perception Endurance Charisma Intelligence Agility Luck (SPECIAL) stat system was cool. I hope they play a great affect on your character in Fallout 3. I remember the 1st time I was playing Fallout 2 and I accidentally picked up the pariah dog, and then wondering why the hell was I getting hurt so much and not getting any good shots in against the early enemies when I was in that armor that you get from the Enclave. That dog reduced my luck to nothing, and it took me forever to kill the dog.

Not to mention you had to have the right stats to be a pornstar.

Also picking the perks was really cool, and also 2 traits that you could pick but would have a negative affect as well. The best thing about the Fallout series are the Vault boy pictures associated with all the perks, traits and stats. The mysterious stranger perk is my AV if you didn’t know.

“Yeah, another tasty bottle of Nuka-Cola! Hmmmm, the great taste. You wonder yourself why, but you just like it. You like it a bit too much and got yourself addicted.”

Edit They merged the perks and traits

Perks at every level?? Fuck yes.

1 and 2 are in the top games of all time for sure. I played 2 first, and had so much damn fun with it I went back and played the first one.

I still remember the time I realized I could just shoot the vendor and take all his crap instead of paying, much less blow off the heads of random civilian children. This was just after discovering snes rpgs, so it was a total experience. I remember a friend came over and saw it and busted up laughing wide eyed for 3 min when we shot a child running around the street. He bought the game the very next day.

Cute. Not sure if you’re being humorous or a snarky jackass, so I’ll explain.

My wife and I played through the first two together when they were originally released and we were merely good friends. She’d take one course of action and path, I would take another, and we would examine our results together. When it came to the shotgun marriage, I wound up taking a woman, as did she…only she played as a woman. We tried to curtail the characters to resemble us as much as possible (minus the child killing, slavery and post-apocalyptic mayhem) and since she dated women at this time in her life, it only seemed appropriate. Just an amusing little thing, but all of those “amusing little things” is what made the Fallouts what they were.

…and say what you want about the game. It has been cleaned up in a politically correct sense compared to the ridiculous amount of shit you could do in the first two. The developers clarified this themselves, with the justification that it will still retain “what fans have come to know and love”.

I’m not screaming about it being different like most fanboys, nor am I saying “IT’S NOT TOP DOWN! I WON’T TRY IT!!!”. I will pick it up, though the lack of the classic appearance is an “elephant on the couch” issue for me. I’m just lost as to why Van Buren got scrapped when it had such potential.

Politically correct? The one quest you see in the game play video shows you nuking a town!! There’s voice-acted swearing and everything, man!

If your complaint for a videogame is that you cant be gay, you are trying entirely to hard to look for complaints.

Read what I wrote.

I did and you are trying entirely to hard to find shit to complain about.

I just saw that. I’m reserving judgment, but goddamn. Am I at least free to say “Shit’s changing”?

This game looks very interesting, I never really played fallout games. But when I learned that the same people made oblivion I just lost all interest. I hated oblivion I tried playing it but couldn’t at all. Hated the gameplay and the characters looked like retarded monkeys.

You didn’t read, or you’d pick up that I’m simply being wary of the new style due to drastic changes that made the game amusing. I’m noting a change. That’s all. I’ll probably pick it up the same as everyone else. I can note that change, right? I’ll even upload FO2 so you can try it if you haven’t played it before. It’s a bit more than “not being gay.” It’s the combat I saw in the videos for FO3 compared to the way more advanced scheme in the first two. There’s an overhaul in so many ways that I’m just kinda taken aback by. Nothing more. Nothing less. There are people who have sworn away and refuse to even look at it. I’m not that childish, but damnit if I don’t feel different.

I saw Dogmeat (or maybe a descendant of him) in a trailer, which brought back a wave of nostalgia. Maybe I haven’t given Bethesda enough credit. The theme from the first Fallout playing on the radio when you enter the town in Megaton was amusing as well. I’ll wait and see how it pans out.

I asked earlier where I can dl Fallout 2 because I wanted to try it, never played a Fallout game before.
