Basically I love this attack since I don’t really have my button executions down (haven’t played a fighting game on stick seriously for months), I’ve been using it a lot since my friends learned about Raida being able to be completely stopped with a blocking crouch and discovered several things so far (although I’m probably not the first to observe these).
it’s pretty safe (as long as you don’t do it too late)
it stuffs dragon punch attacks
it immediately grounds people trying to jump away/partially off the ground when hit with it
it can be linked into lp (both crouching and standing) which means she can link into target combo 4 and 6 (which can be sjc’d into ultra 2 although it will be scaled by a lot)
I think that final part is the most important part because if you learn the link from the hammer kick to punch, you basically get a free target combo on the opponent (and ultra if you wanted too)! Also obviously the target combo 4 can be canceled into neckbreaker/raida as usual, which is good for getting them back on the ground.
Just food for thought and figured it could use its own thread (only saw it mentioned as a link into cr. lk in the ibuki testing thread). Considering it’s still pretty early on, I’m sure there’s going to be even more uses for it later. :3
IIRC, the link for overhead into st. lp is character specific (it can’t combo into target combo 4/6 with bigger characters like Zang or Hakan, they get pushed too far), whereas cr/st. lk is universal.
Or maybe it’s just my fail execution instead.
These are only people that can be hit by the link + target combo 4
People that are marked “no” was tested 5 times with the link before marking them as “no” (but I could still be wrong)
Characters with a [*] next to them require you to hold forward for the lp and then immediately hold back to do agamen
Ryu: Yes

Keep in mind these might not be perfect because I’m not that great at execution either lol
This was a fun idea for me, I got the hang of the link from doing it over and over :3
Most character have either two different timings, one is the link is immediately after the Hammer Kick or it’s slightly delayed
The characters that are harder have their own different timing
I have a feeling the ones I have as no can actually be linked into it, it’s just the timing is a lot harder (Rufus’ was really hard to pull off for me, he has two different timings into the link)
If anyone feels like retesting my No’s that’d be cool too
Good lookin jankanpo when i get back home ill go double check and the lab and compare with yours to see if its for sure. If you can at least link it to st. jab from it its still good enough for me but that into target would be alot more effiecient for mix up and stayin in close.
I just finished, either way all of the characters can get linked into the punch into Raida for another knockdown (plus IIRC it does an average of ~190 damage). Some characters are a lot harder than others and was making me frustrated, I triple checked my list but as I said my execution is still pretty bad, but I’m positive on the people I said Yes to can do the link into target combo 4 (at least, didn’t really check 6 but i’d assume they can both be done)
Either way Ibuki has guaranteed knockdown when Hammer Kick connects if you learn the links for this on every char
With my expierience thats one of the many things i love about ibuki. Youd love to hear how my friends bitch that she can link st. jab to sweep haha. They never have time to stand up! I’ll have to practice those links a bit more, and use hammer in general. I tend to get so overwhelmed in all her options i forget a few form time to time.
Why not save yourself time, instead of trying to screw with how situational the s.lp link is, just do s.lk -> s.mk -> whatever. You could also link cr.lp and cr.lk as well, but the links AFTER those can be tricky as well, which just compounds the issue. However, if you wanna do cr.lp you can link a sweep after, with the added bonus of looking cool as hell. Although the smarter thing would be to link into her BnB after cr.lp.
Overall, I usually go with s.lk since it seems to hit on everyone, and also seems to be less range dependent as well.
Edit:
I’m pretty sure this was mentioned in the option select video as well, may wanna take a look at that.
I highly doubt Hammer Kick stuffs wake up DP. I haven’t looked at the frames, but I’m pretty sure the invincibility frames of the DP are out long enough to hit Ibuki out of it.
The only person I really spar against is a Dudley/Sagat/Seth player and doing the Hammer Kick early stuffs his DP unless it’s an EX or if I do the Hammer Kick too late, dunno for sure though I’ll play around with it later
You guys are better off learning option selects and safe jumps to beat DP’s. Outright stuffing DP’s in this move is still near impossible (thanks to Capcom’s let everyone get out of jail system) unless u cross them up so that’s probably better to work on.
You guys mentioned stuffing dragon punches. I was dicking around with Ryu doing FP shoryukens. After a sweep if you take a step back or so and do the MK version of RDP+K it seemed to stuff his DP pretty easily.
