F.A.N.G. General Thread: Nothing up the Sleeve

Yeah I get that. I just don’t understand why I can hit it literally every single attempt with my PS3 TE stick (and I do mean “literally” - I have to make a conscious effort for a Senpukuga to not work), but the newer TE2 is super finicky. I’ll sit there doing it dozens of times in a row and many of them I’ll swear are hit so cleanly and perfectly yet it comes out as a cr. HP. So basically I’m wondering which stick isn’t working correctly. Both perform flawlessly otherwise, no complaints. I’ve had my PS3 TE for about seven years and my PS4 TE2 for one.

I just conducted an experiment. No joke:
PS3 TE stick: 30/30 attempted Senpukugas came out perfectly.
PS4 TE2: 19/30 successful Senpukugas; 5 cr. HP; 4 cr. MP; 2 cr. LP.

And that’s just sitting in training mode concentrating on nothing but doing a Senpukuga. In a tense match with my TE2, when I’m throwing it out to catch an opponent off-guard or whatever, it works FAR more infrequently. And it’s such a bitch. Trying to coward crouch next to an opponent but instead throwing out a cr.HP is INSANELY precarious. I always get punished, and often severely, at that. It’s maddening.

So unless it’s the PS3 TE stick that is operating more efficiently than it should, I’ve pretty much wasted $250+ on my TE2, which is gut wrenching.

I didn’t know FANG’s new Coward Pose combo xx lk.Slide left him in position for another Coward Pose combo (minus the senpukuga). Where’s all the tech for that new combo? I need to study up.

EDIT: combo x3

And is there any way to get the link from other buttons? I know how far you need to be to be able to get it, but all his buttons push him too far back.

I’m not sure I follow what you mean lol…

I’m asking if there are any other setups for that same combo.

Oh the sLK,sLP,sLP,sHP after senpujuka combo?

yeah

What are people’s thoughts on F.A.N.G at the minute?

I don’t mind him, personally. He not top tier or anything but I feel he can compete. I would like stHK and crMP to go back to the way they were but other than that I wouldn’t want them to mess with him too much TBH.

I’m asking because with S2 out now he is now pretty much relentlessly rooted to the bottom of people’s tier lists and I have fears that Capcom may take this on board and go crazy with the character, without people really knowing his potential. (Really! He’s not bad!)
The next thing you know everyone is playing him (and I like the fact that not many people play him right now)

Another thought I had the other day was this:
x% damage buff on all normals and specials when the opponent is poisoned
So for example a normal that does 50 damage at 10% will do 55 if the opponent is poisoned when they are hit.

I know a lot of people complaints are that he does no damage so the potential to do more damage when the opponent is poisoned makes sense IMO. Obviously the % amount could be changed so it’s not too powerful, I just liked the idea that this would give people more fear to be poisoned.

I think he’s probably the worst character in the game overall.
That said there’s only like 4-5 MUs in the game I would want to have someone else, and couldn’t see why you would still pick FANG for them.

I love Fang but you’re right, the Poison mechanic needs to be buffed somehow to make it more of a threat.
I could think of one thing that would make it reallllly scary, don’t know if someone mentioned it before but Poison should KILL. Once Poison is active,it should K.O. your opponent ignoring the Magic Pixel. That would force enemies who’s life is low to stop playing defensive and get zoned out.
I like your idea for his V-Trigger since it needs to be buffed!

So an April balance is coming. Here are the changes to our boy

Although the changes made to the start-up of F.A.N.G’s attacks were done to keep him in line with the rest of the cast, these changes made it quite difficult for F.A.N.G to land combos or punishes of substantial damage and also keep faster opponents at bay.

With the reduction to the startup of a few key attacks contained in this list, in addition to the other improvements given to F.A.N.G in Season 2, it should result in F.A.N.G feeling that much stronger and competitive overall.

Standing LP
Reduced the advantage on hit from +6F to +5F
Reduced the advantage on block from +3F to +2F<
br/> Increased the hitbox on the second active frame Increased the hit hold from the second and third active frames by 1F

Standing MK
Reduced the startup from 6F to 5F

Standing HP
Reduced the startup from 8F to 7F
Reduced the hitbox
Slightly increased the hurtbox

Standing HK
Reduced the startup from 14F to 12F
Note: The entire movement is reduced by 2F
Advantage on hit reduced from +7F to +6F

Crouching MP
Reduced the startup from 7F to 6F

Nirenko
Reduced the pushback on hit for the first hit

He got his HK and crMP back! \o/
The changes to his LP and HP should still allow us to get LP(ch), HP if I understand right…

The dubious one is the increased hitbox on the second active frame of LP. I wonder if this will break the LP, LP, HP setups people have…?

i think we’ll still be able to link st.lp (CH) into st.HP because of the st.HP startup being reduced, but suspect that we’re losing the (deep) lp, lp, hp combo.
Can’t shake the feeling capcom actively wants this character to be bad. These “buffs” are just restoring his moves to what they were in season 1. And he sure wasn’t good in season 1…

Long time lurker, first time poster in the FANG section. A lot of the problems in S1 stemmed from his low damage output and inability to deal with a lot of shenanigans (aka invincible DPs and other game play issues).

The thought about nerfing those moves was the universal changes benefitted FANG a lot, and they didn’t want him to be too strong. Restoring him to S1 definitely helps him a lot considering the nerfs to other characters and universal changes that still stand.

He won’t be top tier, but her certainly won’t be the ‘NERF FANG’ tier anymore.

He’s still going to be the worst character in the game. By the end of S1, the vast majority had Fang somewhere in their bottom 3. They reverted him back to S1, only this time his S1 lowtier colleagues are in a much better spot.

So he can actually punish overheads now. Beyond that he gets new combos as well and better frame traps

Ch stlk links to sthp now, ch crmk links to sthp as well (really worried bout the hitbox nerf here but it was expected tbh), crmk links into stmk now which is good cause he gets a knockdown after, stlk links to stmk. His frametraps versus 3f jabs get better as well. Sthk gets better as well, the +6 nerf doesnt mean much cause you still need it to counter hit to link into fierce. They buffed him alright.
Did they buff him enough when there is chars like balrog in the game? Prolly not but i mean he aint gonna be a top tier for obvious reasons. He probably wont be hopeless like he is now tho and hes gonna be more fun too with new combos and such

cMK into sHP on CH is probably the best thing he gets from this…
I don’t get why they made the hit box on sHP worse though…move is deceptively stubby to begin with.

It’s wierd F.A.N.G. Being the worst character yet he is 3rd most winning character in top 10k ranks.

Is F.A.N.G. being bad a meme?

It most certainly is, but many memes are based on some form of truth. Imagine what they could be doing with say, Ibuki, instead.

I would say only the top 1,000 of players online is actually extremely competent, scary players that you need to worry about at a tournament. The 9,000 or so below them is a lot of just decent guys at best who will get blown up by matchup inexperience with FANG and have general flaws that would hurt them in a tournament.

After toying around in the beta:

CH crmk>stlp>stlp>sthp works point blank, otherwise CH crmk>sthp is the optimal conversion

Sthp hitbox nerf not that bad

Fang still has coward crouch>stlk>stlp>stlp>sthp

Sweep>vtc>sthp on hit works even without a cc sweep now

CH crlk>crmp is back, sthp>vtc>sthk is back, CH stlk>sthp is legit, the setup versus backroll with the meaty crlk links into fierce on CH now

Other new links include crmk>stmk and stlk>stmk

He def got better, how much better and if its enough remains to be seen, but he looks WAY harder to optimize now too, dude pretty much needs a lot of tm to make it work. But yeah,he doesnt look hopeless anymore, his most common conversions indirectly got their damage buffed by like 50 or more, crmp being 6 frames is big and stlk is THE button now that it leads into a kd on hit, fierce link on CH while still being +3 oB with barely any pushback
