If anyone is good to great with FANG, please inbox me or just send me a PSN message.
My PSN is BV_ZeroCool and I play Akuma. Just looking for some MU experience against these rare characters. Good FANGs give me headaches.
Thanks

PSN Shonuff-X however it might be a good idea to wait for the balance update at the end of the month. FANG is getting buffs and there are changes to Alums so you might want to stay tuned.
Deleted my message; sorry for wasting precious server space.
Coming back to FANG (haven’t really touched this game since S1), are there any major changes to note since Season 1? I see that st.HP’s start up was reduced to 7 frames, which makes his counter hit cr.MK/Senpukuga much scarier.
Also, I know we have (and probably will continue to) talked about buffing FANG’s poison, so I wanted to share some ideas on it. Looking over the frame data, I don’t think Capcom will directly buff the poison damage because of how many projectiles FANG can have on screen at once. If someone eats both hits of a meterless Nishikyu and the poison lasts for the full duration, that’s 90 damage. More than almost all meterless projectiles (exceptions include Laura’s charged projectile), and attached to an effective zoning tool to boot. Poison currently makes a projectile war with FANG very dangerous, and any more damage would make him way too strong in some match ups. So, with that off the table, what else could poison do?
Best part about 7f sthp is it links from ch stlk.
Anyway,a lot has changed from s1:
Best cc sthp conversion with full trigger is sthp>lk slide>sthp>vta>crmk>stlp>sthp (does a bit more than sthp>vta>sthk btw) for everyone except alex,on him you should be doing sthp>mk slide>crlk>stlp>stlp>sthp.
Crmk is 9f startup now but +5 on hit(link stmk)
Senpukuga gets 1 frame advantage bonus on counter hit (+6>+9 instead of +8),you can link crmk after it but its not worth it as sthp link does more and point blank you should be doing stlk>stlp>stlp>sthp anyway (stlp>stlp>stlp>sthp on crouchers)
Point blank ch crmk links into stlp>stlp>sthp
You can do sthk>stlp>stlp>sthp by walking forward for a frame between the jabs, not worth it though imo. On alex you can do it without the walk forward part.
Meaty crlp on oki (example:opponent backrolls after sotoja knockdown, fang does hk slide>crlp) links into stlp>stlp>sthp
Sweep>vta links into sthp without crush counter now
His vreversal got better, still not a get out of jail free card of course, but it does punish certain strings/moves on a read(rashid enhanced mixer, nash ex somersault etc etc)
There is more ofc but post has gotten long enough
I personally still like the idea of when your opponent is poisoned you do 10% more (or a more balanced value) damage on moves.
Everyone wants FANG to do more damage and this way he will…but only when the opponent is poisoned.
Or how about possibly Opponent’s moves do 10% LESS damage if they hit you when poisoned. That could be interesting, especially when it is the difference between life and death.
I like the idea that the poison creates a stat change over it doing slight damage. Similar to the likes of Hakan when oily or Q after multiple taunts.
When is it time to acknowledge how dead this character is?
No posts in this thread. No new tech. Nobody discussing him at all.
RIP
I’ve been having another thought recently about an interesting buff for FANG.
Capcom, I hope you’re reading!
I’d like to see a buff to his normals to do more grey damage on block.
The character has crazy good block string pressure, yet I always feel even though I’ve hit the opponent many times, grey damage is super low. I’m guessing it’s because it’s a % of the move itself.
Characters like Cammy or Urien can build up grey damage far easier than FANG whereas I feel he should be the king of the grey life given his double hitting moves
If you buff grey damage it makes his VS more scary because you CAN’T build your grey life when you’re poisoned.
Grey life on block is an interesting mechanic and being able to maintain decent chunks of grey life by poisoning the opponent is a super unique and interesting feature for the character.
Everyone says FANG needs to do more damage, I think using these mechanics to steal lumps of grey life would be a good way to give the damage buff.
I wait for the day I hear a commentator say “he’s got quite a lot of grey damage built up, he needs to be really careful he doesn’t get poisoned!”
He really needs his poison carpet to be active even after he gets hit. It is weird that is not.
Took another look at fang’s new movelist: http://game.capcom.com/cfn/sfv/character/fan/movelist#ae
We could see from footage last weekend that Fang’s v-skill appears to startup and recover much faster, a welcome buff.
But what i didn’t see mentioned anywhere… look at his v-skill notation on the official movelist. It has an indicator that it gets “powered up” by v-trigger 1 now. Did anyone happen to see footage of that? It would be an extremely welcome change to his original v-trigger if it got some (any!) functionality.
Oh wow, that’s pretty interesting.
Not sure it will be enough to warrant using VT1 though.
VT1 doesn’t last long enough…if you think about the speed of the VS you’d likely only get 1 possibly 2 out before the VT would be over. You’re also emitting poison at this point so I’m not sure why you’d want to use the VS.
I actually had another thought for a buff to his VS, which ties to this…
I’d like to have different speeds of VS, slow and fast. I think this would be a good buff for his VS, which is considered one of the weakest.
Having different speeds would allow you to have more pressure options, especially when the opponent has grey life stacked up.
I mainly use this VS after a block string these days as I feel this is when the opponent is most scared of it, because grey can’t recover. Having a faster VS give more opportunity to steal this grey life.
I really want FANG to be the king of grey life. That the character becomes known for being the grey life stealer though his use of poison.
If the list is final than Fang got a nice set of buffs. He might actually be competitive now depending on the changes to the rest of the cast and the overall S03 metagame.
Yeah here’s hoping these early-but-not-final patch notes are correct for Fang. V-Trig 1 lasting longer along with making the v-skill projectile real is pretty cool. Who knows if it’ll be better than the new V-Trig 2 but any improvement is worth it. Cr.Mk and St.Mk hitting behind him will also be very sweet.
Eagerly awaiting those real notes.
Slightly nervous about these changes TBH…
Based on all the general changes to the game (more neutral) I fear there will be a lot more FANG players about.
I get half my wins on lack of matchup knowledge!
Generally I feel his changes a a little lame.
More damage on Sotojas, VS becoming a hit. Just feels like they haven’t really thought about the character and unique ways they could buff him.
Even a non FANG player suggested to me the other day “wouldn’t it be cool if the VS eventually slowed to a stop and just sat in space for a bit, as like a awkward spot on screen.”
Making it a fireball? Come on Capcom!
Scroll down to the bottom of these pics for some Fang info.
Trial 1: Activate V-Trig1, V-Skill (it has to be a real hit based on this combo), then jump in with j.HP, cr.mk, st.mk xx medium lunge.
(didn’t remember cr.mk comboing into st.mk unless it was CH before? Sorry haven’t played much recently n/m, this always worked)
Trial 2: Coward stance kicks, st.lk, st.lp, st.lp, st.hp xx heavy lunge. AKA the deep combo we got by accident in S2.
Trial 3: j.hp, st.hk, st.mk xx medium carpet xx V-Trig2 activate, st.hp xx medium carpet, upballs.
(combos using medium poison carpet? can’t recall seeing anyone do combos with this before. v-trig2 must be enabling the last part of the combo)
Trial 4: j.hp, st.hk, cr.mp xx upballs xx V-Trig2 activate, st.hp xx heavy lunge xx super.
(can activate new v-trigger out of poison upballs)
