F.A.N.G. General Thread: Nothing up the Sleeve

The time Mike threw a fireball with Rashid it looked like it went right through, but it might’ve missed by a bit.

Guess we won’t fully know til it’s out.

At one point in Peter v Mike, Necalli charges through FANG’s V-Skill. I think the poison ball is still supposed to trigger if you’re poisoned (gives FANG VT), so projectile-immune moves still bypass it. It also seems to hit Zangief during an EX run grab, so it likely activates anyway on armor. As it has no hit stun, I don’t think it can be countered. Since the Necalli thing indicates it is a projectile, Nash may be able to absorb it.

Some fun FANG details I’ve observed:
-V-Skill is actually really good. You get VT for it every time the opponent makes contact with it, so those meaty setups allow him guaranteed VT.
-Low dash is definitely a special; Combo did an EX version in the exhibition.
-Poison goes away when FANG is hit. This means you get about an extra 30~60 frames of poison damage in when thrown.
-VT breaks some of the rules of FANG’s poison while active. Namely, FANG poisons you while being hit because you are generally in proximity to him. I can see Capcom removing this by launch, as it also lets him just safely mash lights and mediums (idk his frame data) and build poison damage while they block, like an even better version of Dhalsim’s VT, AND poisons them while you block.
-FANG, coincidentally, has 2 main types of zoning tool: reactive tools and proactive tools. His projectiles, due to being rather slow and covering a fair amount of the screen, are proactively used to limit the opponent’s ideal movement options. His normals and possibly the lunge are reactive, and can be used to tag people moving around his proactive zoning.
-FANG’s multi-hits synergize well with his poison, buying him even more time than normal for his poison to work its magic.

Capcom pls

again 1more fail character in sf5 what a shame removing sagat for this garbage character :frowning: capcom give a garbage roster for selling good character in dlc :frowning:

FANG looks exciting with new mechanics. Just hope Kuroda doesn’t lean him lol.

Just because I don’t like you, I hope they say FANG beat Sagat to death to show loyalty to Bison and he is replaced with Adon for all future games.

Or Dan beats Sagat, who becomes the perennially low-tier joke character.

Hold dat L until 2017 bro

I can’t help but feel that they are putting big changes into this guy

Hope his moveset isn’t to gutted

Might be some people on the Foundry stream tonight showing off some Fang. I think he is gonna take a bit for people to flesh him out though, not a straight forward as the usuals.

I’m itching to try out this guy. He looks like a shit-ton of fun.
Why wasn’t he included in the beta? q.q

He’s not in the beta because I’m guessing they are either struggling with one of his mechanics or there is something about him they don’t want the general public to know.

It’s weird that they would reveal him, and then not reveal enough about him. Somethings up.

Next time we see him he’s gonna be in a wheelchair.

It might be for the best that we didn’t see him in a beta. People hate facing zoners and all the whining could have led to some knee-jerk nerfs. At least now there will be time to evaluate him calmly before decisions are made.

The nice thing with him is that if the basics are sound Capcom has a simple way to adjust him by toning poison damage up or down rather than screwing with specific moves.

I hope that FANG can be played as an aggressive zoner though. When Combofiend was playing his against Mike Ross, he did use some effective mid screen zoning, but with normals like that, I kinda hope that I can be in your face and set up some interesting things, especially with the poison cloud.

He can turn around in the middle of his jump and cross up with normals so I think he’s built to be aggressive as well. There’s no pure zoner in this game. They want all characters to have aggressive options.

It’s also possible they gave him a great cross-up because they want him to be good at escaping the corner. He’s got that command dash that corner escapes as well.

The problem I have with aggroFANG is we haven’t seen any mix-up tools. Like, Dhalsim can set up a fireball and then do ambiguous teleports. We haven’t seen anything like that for FANG as far as I’m aware?

He may not need it. Poison mechanic allows you to play mind games and force people to do things without actually mixing up.

His V Trigger is basically an MKX poison power up. You just move near the person and keep pressuring them with buttons. Long as you near them they are losing health through poison and white chip. If he ends up having a viable counter hit and tick throw game then even scarier.

Yeah, white life damage is like it’s own mixup. You sit there blocking endlessly, the damage stacks and suddenly throws do 300 damage.
