Execute! The Decapre Matchup thread

omg i dunno if anyone said this but you can air throw chunli out of ex spinning bird for free

Grapplers destroy Decapre for free. Everything she does can be punished with their LP 360. And lets not forget Gief can just lariat everything you do and no matter what side you go to you get knocked out. I feel that is the only time I need to play her super defensively. I pick U1 and just run away scared. Even Hugo seems to have an advantage because if you delay the backbreaker he can auto-correct to whatever side you scramble to. Even if you’re baiting with the safe moves he can still catch you. Not to mention her swiss cheese blocked is a free 360 for Gief and Hawk (not sure about others).

Hoping someone can give me some good strats against the grapplers. I play Hawk and Hakan myself and I Have no problems against Decapre…

There’s absolutely no reason for you to go in.

Literally. None. You can do damage with footsies, build a bar, and just run run away. Aerial scramble when cornered. If you can stand next to a traditional grappler and beat him with frame traps and mixup pressure then that grappler is crap. The whole idea is that you can’t win while standing next to him.

you can run mix ups on them tho

but w/e im tired of this nonsense

Yeah i get that. Problem, they get 1 hit I’m 1/4 down. So what now? That’s my point. Anyone can backup and hold down back. Hell even Hugo with claps can chip me to death if I don’t have meter. I’ll keep working on it but its a tough fight.

I can’t do random scrambles and win, this matchup is obviously 2-8.

Footsies too hard

My main sparring partner mains Gief. It’s a really rough matchup, but manageable. Your pokes beat his pokes, especially your st. :mk: , which will stuff most of his attempts to poke back. When Gief has no bars you can poke with impunity. One trick I like is charging focus to level 2, hitting his block with it, then dashing forward and neutral jumping. He whiffs spd, I jumping :hp: to full combo. He tries to lariat, jumping :hp: beats it clean if spaced right, and I convert to full combo.

The real trouble with this match is when Gief has meter. Ex Green Hands can stuff your pokes, and a lot of your scramble options. Once Gief has meter, it really comes down to poking much more carefully, and waiting for/ baiting the Ex Green Hands. If you bait it and block it, you can :lp: > :lp: > :mp: > whatever you want, for good damage. You can probably punish harder, I just haven’t extensively tested punishing it yet.

Don’t jump, beating Lariat with jumping :hp: is nigh impossible.
Don’t get too cute with scramble.
I thought that mixups were always bad in this matchup but after playing with it more you just have to use them intelligently, and sparingly.
Don’t flub ex scramble > break xx ultra 2. If you accidentally j. :hk: Gief resets in time to U1 as he hits the ground, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Once you have U2 he can’t lariat. Hit him with U2 until he learns that.
Once you have U2 he can’t whiff spd. Hit him with U2 until he learns that.
Edit: And please, please be careful with scramble mixups when they have meter. Ex Green Hands beats Ex divekick, ex ground pound, jump ins, and all this other shit :c (Though you can bait ex green hands and punish it by doing mp break for the instant land as Malvadisco told me)

But in all seriousness, I’d say the matchup is about even or maybe in Decapre’s favor. People are really really overhyping it’s difficulty because they don’t have good footsies and get impatient, but this matchup isn’t bad. You just have to play consistently.

My main match ups that I’ve faced with Decapre have been shotos and grapplers. Hugo is insanely free (for now, don’t think the character is as bad as he seems atm). His only way of dealing damage to you is for him to take huge risks with his slow normals and his grabs. Stay outside his sweep range, whiff punish anything he does with s.HP or c.HP, stay on the ground and look out for his ex-run grab/ex lariat thing. Pretty easy match up IMO. Don’t do scramble mixups because you can get grabbed (Gief can ex green hand all your options).
Same theory applies to T-Hawk and Gief, play footsies, they are slow characters (THAWK slightly faster due to condor spire buff) and whiff punish with s.HP.

s.HP is godlike. If they try focus it, switch to s.mp > hp Target combo.
I personally don’t think grapplers are bad matchups for Decapre, just because you can’t spam LP Hands.

My main problems is with people who jump/cross up all the time. I find it a huge struggle to AA properly w.o charge. I’ve tried cl.sMP but it mostly gets stuffed. Any tips on this?

If you’ve been pushing them away pretty well during that round up until then, they are probably still at a life deficit. You shouldn’t be in serious danger of being knocked down and then standing next to a grappler unless he gets seriously lucky, you took a gamble that you probably should not have, or if he cornered you. Yes, once he gets in, you can guess wrong once or twice on wakeup to make things worse for yourself, even if all you were trying to do was play it safe. That’s how grapplers work.

Again, unless some really practical safe setups start being discovered, you are going to be getting most of all of your damage from pokes or simple punishes.

If you do get a chance to do a combo, I would end it in heavy/EX rapid dagger, this carries Decapre the furthest away from her corner. Plus, it’s a move that needs no charge and you really should not be sitting on charge in the neutral game as a go-to while trying to bait moves out of a grappler.

Do you mean people who do this outside of your wakeup? Try just dashing forward or jump back roundhouse.

I don’t agree that you can’t mixup. If you do it sparingly it’s really difficult for your opponent to anticipate.

Sometimes during footsies I’ll do cr. :mp: > :mk: scramble to :hp: break, or :mk: break. It’s a nice trick to sneak in every now and then.

Thing is, she gets outranged in so many matchups and when you can’t go for upclose mixups you’re kinda in trouble.
I’m having a hard time against grapplers too… i walk back too much, try to counterpoke something then i fly away with MK scramble, but that sucks a little.

I was about to say the same things, dash under or jump back HK

i don’t know if jump back air throw could be effective too, need to try it

Her air throw is pretty slow by air throw standards, it’s generally not a good anti-air.

I’d like to submit that this is just a situation where good blocks is the answer. You can’t always have an easy out and good fundamentals are a good thing to practice anyway.

Bait whiff, whiff punish. Footsies

Someone gets it.

but then when do i scramble?

100% correct, but if I really wanted to play just that way I’d play Cammy who is better. Decapre has these tools…I wanna use em :frowning:

Here’s a matchup I realize I struggled with today after facing 5 of them, Honda. I had some trouble since I can’t punish headbutts like I do with Blanka balls and his normals seemed to beat out mine…I’m doing it wrong I’m sure but still. Plus he has Ochio to punish swiss cheese on block. What should I practice for this matchup?

if he’s punishing your -3 move with a 5 frame grab you’re doing something really really really wrong

I’m thinking, particularly with Rufus, if there’s any tech to blow up his blocked divekick into another divekick or throw mixup.

u gotta take into account it could be online and online can be kidna funny i know in training mode i can reversal sting rolentos ball everytime but it seems to whiff all the time online its annoying
