i think some people have got the wrong impression with decapre. she’s not charge characters answer to c.viper. she’s kind of a turtle character imo. her normals are fantastic, she has an air throw, good normal anti airs and two great ultras. that’s where the magic is. the ability to also go nuts from time to time is nice but most of that should be fakes to then counter mistakes with punishes. without the understanding of her normals you are going to get destroyed.
anyways, back to the match ups - who do you guys think she beats clean?

at ranges where cr.mk xx lp hands is safe, the second to third hits of hands is not a true blockstring against certain characters, if they block the dagger standing. this seems specific to ryu, ken, seth, ibuki, akuma, oni, elena, chun li, dhalsim, poison and evil ryu.
so i played more against balrog and buffering hands into cr,mk is absolutely godlike against his rush punches…especially if you have the meter for ex.
got punished using escape air ultra 2 by gouken’s ultra 2 lol. brings me to a question i have actually - what the fuck do you do when you’re cornered? i feel like she gets destroyed in the corner. maybe i’ll try out waiting for the right moment to teleport or ex instant air or something.
I was finding ex stinger worked really well against corner crossups I might have just been getting lucky with it though.
by the way how do you do autocorrect stingers is there a way or should I just block the crossup?

I completely agree about knowledge of her normals, even if i think that goes for any character if you play competitively
Saying she’s a turtle character goes from one opposite to the other.
I guess she can turtle like many other charge characters but on the other side they gave her so many tools to rush down and create 50/50 situations leading to massive damage.
Decapre probably needs to bait a lot but most baits are done within the very rushdown mixup where you can use Scramble > MP or LP break according to what the opponent is starting to react to.
The air spiral arrow is another tool to keep the pressure on when it only looks like you are retreating for a second.
Rapid daggers also are a tool to keep the pressure on.
She also has a decent and imo underrated overhead which goes over lows, cammy doesn’t.
I sure don’t trust 100% of the things combofiend says for capcom but i think it’s true when he says decapre is supposed to be played heavily on the offensive. He also said you want to knock them down to exploit okizeme most of the times and i think i agree as well.
So right now people are using stings as a combo ender like 90% of the times but with that you basically give up on wake up game.
I think we’re about to see more rapid dagger or RES in the future. You give up on damage but you’re good to go for wake up game.
Stings bring you to neutral ground game everytime and even if i don’t think decapre’s footsies are bad that’s not her best situation.
At least thats my opinion, then we’ll see when top players start showing decapre’s potential
Ok not like guile since he’s like 90% defense, i meant i just don’t think any efficien decapre player in the future is going to turtle for a decent amount of time with her
You said decapre is not viper but as a matter of fact a good viper can really play on defense and zone enemy out much more efficiently with seismo cancels and fierce TK.
Decapre can’t zone you out, her pokes have pretty short range, her normal AA doesn’t look all that great to me at least at the moment.
LP sting is awesome as an anti air but you cant use it while playing footsies.
Her strength looks like 95% on the offensive, to me.
Of course this is all IMO and i might be wrong, i’m not saying this is the absolute truth, just my opinion about decapre’s stile in reply to your view

other than delaying the sting as much as possible i don’t think you can do more than that
i agree c.viper can also be played defensive style in certain situations too but i just feel like decapre isn’t as brain dead and some of her stuff is most likely a lot more unsafe than viper. decapre doesn’t really have anything comparable to the ridiculousness of burn kicks.
i think rapid dagger is going to be an extremely important tool. the only people i’ve seen really utilise this properly so far are alioune and haneyama (not to say there aren’t others).
i’m really loving decapre against shoto’s so far with the exception of akuma.
I think we are at the stage where we can begin pooling some experience on a single character, just to get some proper match-up advice on the first post. Besides, the thread is alrady beginning to stagnate (no post in 3 days).
Might I be so boring as to focus on Ryu? Alot of the stuff would be transferrable to other shotos, including how to get in, fireball punishes etc.
Anyone wanna give it a go? I’ve only started on preliminary stuff like punishing fireballs with U2 etc but hope to get more done today.
Is anyone else having trouble with guile and rog or is it just me? Seems like anytime I try to move against them they jab/flash kick me. And I’ve been having some luck against the bison matchup lately by staying just out of his kick range but that may have just been the specific players rather than the matchup itself.
Does the Scramble low kick razor edge slicer I think, low profile a lot? I’ve seen go under projectiles at least Dee Jay’s but what about moves like Zangief’s Lariat?
