i normally just block it and maybe back dash unless its really obvious. not really worth the risk imo if you arent sure. the way i look at it - get yourself the hell out of the mid range where she is strong
it is not always a true blockstring so try and stinger them inbetween the cancelled normal and the spiral, not sure if that helps at all you probably knew that
Makes sense. No point of really trying to out footsie him. Just get in and go nuts and stay on top of him. Trying too hard to win battles with st fp too much
Yeah against characters with clearly superior normals you just end up losing tons of life for no reason. I’d rather get AA’d by a jump back strong trying to guess my way in and get some corner than trying to footsie and get pushed out.
What do you guys do against Ryu? It’s amazing how such a simple character gives me huge trouble… I try to cr.mk xx l hands and his cr.mk fucks me everytime… goddammit… is there any point to hands Ryu in neutral?
If you’re getting hit by his cr.mk, that means you need to be using your other normals that go over it in footsies more. You can’t just play one button footsies predictably and expect good results, you have to give him a reason to not hit cr.mk at that range.
I’m not going to tell you what these buttons are, but go to training mode and record ryu hitting cr.mk, walk into max range and see what works. When you have simple problems, learning to solve them in training mode is a huge part of getting better.
i’ve played some pretty decent rolento’s and i think that decapre definitely wins that match.
adon match - i feel very confident if adon has picked ultra 2 as i can abuse stinger a lot more. with ultra 1 i think it’s probably even.
rose? i’ve had a lot of success with decapre against rose.
i’ve done ok against viper…well i say this as a guile main so i guess anything is better than guile against viper lol. i’ve found ultra 2 works nicely in this one.
one character i’ve struggled with is gouken. i can’t really explain why as i feel like decapre has all the tools to beat him. maybe it’s down to his damage output? perhaps now ex slide got buffed in the patch this match might have changed a bit.
blanka is another character where i think i should be winning but i’m not getting the results. ultra 2 punishes ball of course…but i’ve found lk slide to be very inconsistent (i think he can safe ball it). any general tips for this match?..especially against the ultra turtle type of blanka’s that keep backing off and exploit your frustration.
I do fine vs. viper since i posted that, i just practiced reaction low profiling burnkicks for a few hours and it got much improved.
Rose got better when i started using hands > safejump divekick os dp to beat backdash/ex spiral.
Against adon i don’t think you need to “abuse” psycho sting, just be wary of him trying to bait it and maybe use cr.hp or cr.mp more.
Gouken is weird yeah, i think it’s just from a lack of being comfortable. His punishes hurt so messing up feel impactful. I feel it’ll get easier over time as our play gets cleaner. You can safejump his counter with j.hk and it’ll whiff the hit part sometimes, pretty useful
I don’t know the quality of blanka you’re playing against. I’d just say chill and wait for them to kill themselves cause blanka players tend to be pretty dumb and even turtley ones will usually do something stupid if you give them enough time.
If the player is smartish i’d just say use ex hands to push them to the corner then control their movement. Even on block ex hands pushes about 1/4 of the screen.
in the eventhubs tiers this was listed as 7-3 in viper’s favour and i was like, really? lol. i’d say this match is pretty even overall. it’s definitely 100 times better than guile vs viper that’s for sure.
yea agreed i just meant you can get away with a lot more if he picks ultra 2.
i think that ex hands tip is a very good idea actually because i was getting most of my joy once i had him cornered.
anyways i think i just suck against blanka regardless of which character i use and i know i’m not the only one .
his dive kick is so slow that you can see it, ex scramble ground pound and blow up his landing frames behind him. I mean you can stinger it too but you might not happen to have down charge. Probably pretty obvious to you guys you are smart players but I thought I’d share it in case you haven’t been using the anti-jump technology.
I don’t like the match vs blanka either, I’d say 6-4. I think vipes is 5-5 The only thing I don’t really like vs viper is I’m not really sure how to approach her. It always feels like a big risk to be walking forward against that character because a jump or seismo can kind of nail you and leave you in a bad spot on the highway to mixup city. NJ fp is such a sick air to air that ruins a lot of her shenanigans. It ends up being a full screen standoff whenever I play it.
I think i’ve lost one or two games to blanka as decapre so it’s hard for me to really give advice, and I go about 9-1 vs. other decapres if I pick Blanka myself.
Been studying the Fuerte & Yun matchups because Pepeday and Kazunoko are coming to a small tournament in my home town and will be money matching anyone who wants to. I’m probably gonna get wrecked but anyways here’s all the info I dug up on the chars. Some of this info is already here but some isn’t
Fuerte:
Quesadilla Bomb:
Punish with Hands (Mash it our right after blocking the hit) or U2
Tostada Press:
Punish with FAST Ground U2
*Can also Stinger Fuerte out of his run > jump before a Tostada Press or Fajita Buster lands
Run > Slide:
Punish with Stinger or U2
Run > Kick:
Not punishable
Whiffed Anti-Air Throw:
Punish with Stinger
*Don’t think it’s common, but if a Fuerte tries to escape @ point blank range by whiffing an EX AA Throw, Decapre’s EX Stinger can still catch him while he lands thanks to the distance buff. Normal Stingers will whiff
Yun:
Up Kicks:
Punish with Stinger
Lunge Punch:
Punish LP-HP versions with Stinger
EX not punishable
Palm Strike:
LP-HP versions not punishable on block, but you can Stinger opponent out of it during startup
Punish EX version with Stinger
Shoulder:
LP version not punishable
MP, HP & EX punishable with Stinger in a 1 frame window
You want to punish qbomb with slide if you can because it lets you start vortex. Walk button xx hands is better than raw hands too.
Against Yun it’s important to learn far MP punishable range because it’s -5. Even if he cancels it lp or ex sting can punish it. This prevents him from mixing it up between shoulder and no shoulder. Also important to know the range where cr.mk will low profile upkicks so you can push him to corner(either through him backdashing the cr.mk or blocking lp/ex hands).
