i don’t use u2 because balrogs don’t typically have anything that i need u2 to threaten.
they don’t jump much, they don’t have fireball, they don’t do anything besides headbutt that ill punish with tc1
anything that i can u2 i can also sting or something else instead (rush punches, TAP)
and u2’s final use, escaping the corner with the AA version, i don’t think is that important
just looked it up and his sweep is -6, so that’s not even punishable by u2
just having problems because obviously his poking game beats mine and rog has good anti airs for decapre’s airborne tools besides like some spiral arrow spacings.
Bipson still owns me
about a month in now and i’m sensing a lot of 5-5 matchups. The only good matchups I can see so far is T.Hawk and possibly Rolento (but the standard of Rolentos havent been great so far so I could be wrong).
The main matchups I’m having real big problems with are Vega and Sakura, I feel that their footsies are so much better and this gives Decapre problems getting in.
Balrog, Honda and Blanka are also problems for me but I don’t think they’re necessarily in their favour and with work, I reckon these would be an even matchup. Most of it seems like good baiting and more effective punishing. EX Blanka balls for example seems safe unless you have an ultra.
Pretty sure i have punished LP/EX balls with scramble LK slide. Remember to stand block.
I find the Blanka match up very easy. Hands > safe jump owns him. LK scramble slide to punish all balls. U2 also does this
it’s possible to safeball slides.
also if you auto pilot with hands safejumps, as a blanka player i’m going to start doing delayed quickrise > throw
Yeah, Decapre’s DP animation is deceptive. The Psycho energy starts from the floor but the hitbox doesn’t go that far. Most slides and other really low profile stuff will stuff any of her DPs
I’m having problems with Vega, T. Hawk and Evil Ryu. Any tips?
What about them are giving you trouble?
t.hawk, hold down back and do psycho sting when you see him moving forward. no need to go in most of the time. Don’t do hands randomly or you will get punished.
T Hawk - Stay out of his dash/condor spire range and punish any dashes/whiffed spires with s.mp into hands or if you’re not comfortable with this, s.HK/c.HP. I would highly recommend not doing Psycho stings as you can take huge damage if it’s blocked. Play footsies, any jump ins can be AA’d with C.hp w/o a trade. Main thing is staying out of his range, he can’t really grab you unless he goes for whiffed spire SPD or dash SPD or jump ins.
E RYU - Standard shoto match up IMO. Most e.ryu’s will do cl.HP, c.mk into axe kick. This isn’t a true block string and you can LP sting before the axe kick. Stay outside his c.mk range and hold your charge, if you see a fireball, do a IA ex drill to get in. Make sure you do c.mk into hands at max range and he can’t punish. Play extremely safe and watch out for c.mk > EX red focus into Ultra. Also a trick I like to use is a basic frame trap into EX scramble > MK break into throw/c.lk starter. Also, block on his wake up, DP FADC dash forward is easily punished with Psycho sting or c.lp starter. Can E RYU be punished on DP FADC backdash with U2?
No exp with the vega matchup for me unfortunately. Hope that helps
@Materia wicked info, very helpful thank you!!!
@noosetester honestly I can’t figure out what it is, I guess I didn’t know my best options for playing against them? Materia’s info was super helpful though - I’ll practice those matchups and see how it works out (although there’s so many Evil Ryu’s online now that I’ve started to get the hang of playing them lol
But every time I find myself up against a decent Vega player I just find myself getting bodied
finally got to test out vs. dhalsim last night, every match was damn close. he was not the craziest sim but the games were all very close.
i found going in with scramble did not work too well. he could teleport away on reaction because of the long startup. i never got a chance to use EX -> MP - i think that could close the gap quite well. however i was able to catch fireballs very easily with LK scramble slide.
staying on top of him was harder than i thought it would be. main reason is he would jump back FP (yoga sniper) me. i think i should have been fishing for U2 punishes off that a little harder (i did manage to get one) obviously u2 in general was very easy to hit (i caught 2 limbs and 1 fireball in 6 rounds) anyway back to the point i think staying standing would have been smarter because a slide would put him right next to me if he decided to go low. should have been using st fp more i ended up in that range a lot or just outside of it, i was dumb and kept trying to go for cr mk xx dagger or scrambles.
last gem ive got, when i saw him teleport i would just jump back and was able to catch him with spiral arrow on reaction but you can also just use a HK (much safer) just depends how bad you want the knockdown.
i wasnt really sure how to OS his wakeup to catch his teleports, with honda i do meaty hands OS’d with headbutt. nj’s work pretty amazing for a good mixup though so not sure if you need anything else if you can get up next to him in time.
alll in all id play it pretty lame again, force him to do shit like teleport or fireball, try not to give up too much ground. once you get u2 you really shut him down. if he just sits there poking with limbs i was able to score jumps and spirals on reaction.
So I’ve run into at least one or two Hakans that once they get a hard knockdown on me, they do their running Dive command throw on my wakeup and it works every time until I do an EX Sting. I’ve tried normal sting, backdash, scramble, ex scramble, and crouch, but none of those worked. Crouch didn’t work because he grabs me in the frames where I am standing right after waking up.
Other than that, I have a real issue dealing with meaties on wakeup. EX sting feels like the only option in some cases because everything else gets stuffed out. In most cases, I just end up blocking.
The last question is, what is the best way to punish backdash on wakeup? Especially when fighting Rose or Chun, this feels like too good of an option when I am not going for some sort of crossup.
Did you ever try to use a crouching normal like a cr lp against meaty Oil Dives?
for meaty throws that hit you standing you have to wake up with something like crouching light punch
could also do H sting probably as it is throw invincible
meaties on your wakeup, you’ll have to take a lot. your only invincible wakeups are LP sting (1-5 f strike invin, 5f startup), Ex sting (same, but invincible to everything), ultra 2 (1-10f invin, 7f startup), focus backdash, and backdash. or block.
catching the good backdashes are hard with any character. i’d suggest doing a crLP to sLK/sLP + farHP option select. obv it won’t beat ex spiral/sbk wakeup, but that’s what you have to do.
going in with scramble is pretty solid vs. sim if he does teleport just don’t input anything for scramble then spiral arrow him
OK I’ve been playing Decapre more extensively nowadays. Winning a little more consistently on and offline, some matchups still elude me though
Sagat: I’m sure this matchup on paper isn’t so bad, but I’m clearly playing it wrong. Without U2 available, getting around Tiger shots is tricky for me, especially if the player is staying unpredictable with the speed and height. Tiger Knee blows me up as do his frame traps. Usually just lead to me getting chucked across the screen, eating a combo or getting dp’d
Viper: Burn Kicks… I’ll block the majority but sometimes they are just too ambiguous. Any button that works pretty well against them? I use c.MP but my success with it is hit or miss
Ryu: I’m fine punishing his fireball game, but when they stand at max low forward range or just outside it, of course if he does the low forward cancelled regular fireball at this range I can punish the gap in the blockstring, but mixing that up with EX fireball and not cancelling at all. Simply put I can’t get around his buttons at certain ranges
That’s about it atm, just trying to eliminate a few matchup issues at a time. Help for any of these matchups is appreciated
I can’t say much for sagat and ryu, but for vipers burn kicks just stop trying to block them and stinger everything. It’s a shame but stinger completely takes away her burn kicks. Completely.
