Evolution X (2008): Decade of Domination!

Yo… Get rid of BYOC.

So… 3S/CvS2 have to be one game due to hardware constraints… meanwhile people are playing World Heroes Perfect in the back? Chill…

It’s just stupid. If you want to play casuals, there’s a hotel full of people with TVs/PS2’s in the room. Take it there.

If we actually used our resources in the most optimal fashion, the tournaments (which are the real reason we come out, AFAIK) can be run in the most effective way possible.

more marvel

less everything else

BYOC in a different room like it was in 2003/2004 was AWESOME…BYOC in the same hall as main EVO Event clogs stuff up…

ps. whats wrong with WHP? half serious, relax

You might want to take a media crash course on VF or play the others/research more history. It’s not quite so black and white like that.

True, most of the time Kage, Pai and Shun are in the finals of tournaments, but their usage isn’t that high, especially now in Version C. At nearly all recent tournaments, I’ve seen just about the entire cast be used. Aoi might be considered the lowest tier, but isn’t bad enough to be called a “worst character”. I duno, sounds like you read some old version B thing and it stuck with you lol. Sorry for derailing this thread but some of this is a bit off.

The post-sbo push seems to actually be doing something this time around, and after the performance at evo, i feel that the gg community is going to start stepping it up.

Having one end all-major tournament a year really does wonders for a community, but when a few games that a lot of people play gets cut back due to constraints, it really doesnt do anyone any good. I mean, stating the obvious aside, there should be a way to at least have every game represented someway at evo. Even if the main lineup is just 6 games, make two byoc’s, one for the 6 main games, and 1 for side games, so at least side tournaments could be set up, but it wouldnt interfere much with the main lineup,

and it would help in a sense that if people are signed up for any of the main games, that if they were in the main games byoc, they shouldnt be too hard to find/too away when they are up to play.

personally, id be good with GG, 3S and smash, anything else is fine. Really, i guess the more input people give will better help what happens, just need people to start replying to this.

I’m going to bet money MB will have a good 80 people next year. Look forward to it getting equal or more entries then at least one of your main games. Bet it. We ain’t going nowhere but up!

That being said, I really, really think it should be online registrations only. That would probably clear up ALOT of last minute shit.

And keep the BYOC. Don’t hate on it. It’s as much a part of Evo as anything else is.

:stuck_out_tongue:

I wouldn’t consider DOA for next year unless our next upcoming tournaments (DOA Major tournaments) break 80.

DiD3 at the end of september and DOATEC in the middle of November.

If we don’t break 80 then I would suggest not considering DOA for next year.

3s, MVC2, CVS2, and ST should and always has been the core of evo. I dont know what all this talk about droping CVS2 is about, but its the most rediculas thing i’ve ever heard. I agree with making Evo a 6 game limit tourny. I like the idea of making evo 4 days, but have to respect that some ppl have to work and not everyone would be able to get 4 days off for a video game tourny. The line up should be 3s, MVC2, CVS2, ST, Tekken 6 and Smash. These games have the biggest sence and will have a bigger turn out than any of the other games. GG is a great game but it has a very small sence, GG should be moved to side tourny like Melty Blood and SNK games. Im sure VF5 and SC are great games, but Evo=Big leagues and there just simply is’nt any room for thoughs games. There’s alota other games that I know ppl would like to be part of the line up, but Melty Blood, SNK, VF5, Soul Calibur and pretty much any other fighting game either has too small of a sence and/or would have a very low turn out compared to 3s, Marvel, CVS2, ST, Tekken and Smash. And to be honest I dont really think anyone on SRK gives a **** about VF5 or Soul Calibur. If the SC community can run a big national tourny on there own, then let them. We cant please everyone someones gona get left out, and lets be real Evo is for SRK, therefore evo should worry about the ppl on SRK b4 it worries about everyone else, because we are the ones who have supported the tournament all these years, and we’re the ones who are going to continue to support it. Im sure there are ppl on SRK who play SNK games, GGXX and Melty Blood, but they’re overshadowed by ppl who play 3s, MVC2, CVS2 and ST. What ever happens, thoughs 4 games are an aboslute must. Street fighter games get priority over all, last time i checked this forum was call SHORYUKEN! Not the kilik forum, not the Martial Law fourm, or the Mario forum. Get ****'n real.

Like moving Evo’s date from late August to Labor Day weekend starting that friday? It would probably have more people attending though the return flights should not be a pain at night…

I think that with strict enforcement of the timing rule, everything can rule without a hitch… I don’t know if its possible but if there are monitor screens displaying which players are up and go where (Like on LCD where organizers can edit and type up names), it would probably be more effective than straining vocal cords screaming out names…

WHP was in its own cabinet furnished by local Vegas NeoGeo heads.

I didn’t commentate shit but if they let me, that shit woulda definitely been hype. I was just in the crowd yelling.

If you thought that was commentary, then damn I’m that nigga.

Sorry, but I think some ideas for games here are almost ridiculous.

SSBM ? Ok. It has a big scene. Asides from that, no SSBM player plays any other fighting games and, after Evo, I think we can be pretty sure that they will never ever do it. They don?t even own the same consoles as everybody else. They will be playing Smash and Mario Tennis stuff, and that?s it. It is Halo all over again.

Puzzle Fighter ? It is not a fighting game. It seems much more a favor to Sirlin than anything else. Mario Kart was absurd enough.

VF ? No scene.

DoA ? No scene.

Newest MK ? No scene, I guess. Everybody at SRK hates the game anyways.

SC 4 ? Possible, but SC 3 is a dead competitive game. If you?re thinking about taking CvS2 out, you better replace it with something truly amazing, or simply do not add new games at all.

Tekken 6 ? Same thing, except Tekken has a fanbase that presents itself to tourneys. But the PS3 player base will be limited in both games, and arcades won?t exist. Tekken is much better than SC for a competitive tourney. SC sells more, but MK sells more than both together, and yet there?s no scene. Come to think about it, hate it or not, MK and SC are very alike nowadays.

Melty Blood ? Guilty Gear and CvS 2 are getting the boot and you want Melty Blood??? Except from the very very few Melty Blood players, I don?t think the game should be at Evo, ever. Even MB players think the game can get 80 people next year. 80 people, at a worldwide tourney, is a big joke IMO. SHGL MvC2 biweeklies had more people than that

I mean, if you want to cut games, you don?t want crazy games in.

GG ? They don?t play other games. Other gamers don?t play GG. They like to play team tourneys. They don?t really play to win. A side team tourney is more than enough for GG, but I don?t think it should be ever at the main lineup. 99% of them just want a gathering anyways.

KoF XII ? If the game is amazing and unites the SNK world into just one game, it may be an option. Plus, it would free the BYOC from all those small SNK tourneys because people would want to play KoF XII. If its not absolutely amazing, don’t bother.

Old ST ? There are like 15 guys playing this seriously.

ST HD: This may be a good experience because it is a new game that may or may not attract new players. It is worthy of a test IMO.

CvS2 ? IMO you should only take this one out if you?re planning on making Evo with 2 games only, MvC2 and Third Strike. It is the third biggest game at srk, it is a very competitive game and US and Japan are pretty even. The community is big and they play MvC2 and Third Strike as well.

MvC2 ? This is the number one competitive game in US history. Since we destroyed Japan when they actually played the game in 2000, MvC2 is America?s trademark. It has the craziest money matches by far, it has the most hype by far, and the crazy wild hardcore crowd is really good for getting attention from the press if you try it. Take MvC2 out and Evo will no longer be the main fighting game tournament for US players.

Third Strike ? Almost the same thing. It is like a smaller version of the MvC2 scene but, because of the location, it may draw even more players. Like CvS2 and MvC2 players, they also play other games.

I would always keep MvC2 and Third Strike (unless a next SF comes). I would think hardly about keeping CvS2 as well. I would give a chance to ST HD and that?s it. 4 games. Then I would watch closely for what happens with new games like SC4 and KoF XII to see if they are worthy of a spot. But, IMO, Evo should wait for a community to grow before automatically picking some random game to use. This is what every single Evo member told Apoc about Alpha 3, and it would be reasonable to keep this line of thinking and stop putting random nonfighters at Evo, or even DoA and VF.

I heard commentary for T5 DR sucked balls. Maybe its not the opinion of the majority though. IMHO we need people who actually know the games in depth to commentate, or nothing at all. And unbiased people, of course. If you?re cheering for anybody, you shouldn?t comment.

Oh, yeah, and more Marvel, less everything else would be good too.

Don’t take away cvs2…

No no no no no.

Lots of Guilty Gear players also play and enter other games (although they might not be top placers). A side tourney is definitely not even close to enough. The Guilty Gear scene is still growing, and probably faster than the other fighters (as it keeps getting new revisions). Guilty Gear needs to be at 2008 as a main game, if anything needs to be removed, make it VF or DOA.

CVS2 needs to be there too.

Tragic for major!!!

Yeee mayne, I think your forgetting the purpose of Evolution annnndd most of your arguments seemed to be personal opnions that trash on games rather then realize the purpose of the tournaments.

Ok it’s hard enough gathering thousands of people to get into one building, but it works when everyone shares the same interest and common goal. Just because evo is considering taking some games out, and replacing them with new titles doesn’t mean it is going to be the end of the world. Of course certain games may have larger fan bases then others, but seriously how many dedicated players do you see from XYZ title to participate?

Some games just take time to develop and grow, just how long did it take for the US to get good with Third Strike? nearly seven years? How many titles have been released with the Guilty Gear series, but yet players have to readjust rethink and replay everything to get acquainted with the new updates coming out. Canning a game just because of a new version is released doesn’t make any sense. Even then letting go of certain communities just because the population of that game isn’t giving enough feed back does not sound like evolution to me, and honestly I don’t see that carrying foward.

I feel that half the time when people attend these tournaments there are barriers amongst the players. Shit think about it, this country over here, that country over there? Where is the love?

If anyone is interested or willing to participate at evo why just stick to one game when you can learn various titles? That’s what half of the evo staff strive on is to get people engulfed into the fighting game scene.

So let’s see what happens with the next titles coming out, let’s just see how the fighting scene grows, or possibly declines? but fireing off on assumptions just isn’t the way to start out with, and with that kind of sepculation that’s the kind of bullshit Evo doesn not need.

i always thought cvs2 was the big 3 alongside mvc2 and 3s. it will be a mistake to take cvs2 away. i know matches are long and many people will want 2/3 but i’m sure evo staff will find a way to make it possible starting now to next year.

What were the actual turnout numbers for each game this year at evo?

Wow power333, well said. Cheers!

Trag, I think there needs to be more “Dick in the beverage”.

Just a suggestion.
