Sorry, but I think some ideas for games here are almost ridiculous.
SSBM ? Ok. It has a big scene. Asides from that, no SSBM player plays any other fighting games and, after Evo, I think we can be pretty sure that they will never ever do it. They don?t even own the same consoles as everybody else. They will be playing Smash and Mario Tennis stuff, and that?s it. It is Halo all over again.
Puzzle Fighter ? It is not a fighting game. It seems much more a favor to Sirlin than anything else. Mario Kart was absurd enough.
VF ? No scene.
DoA ? No scene.
Newest MK ? No scene, I guess. Everybody at SRK hates the game anyways.
SC 4 ? Possible, but SC 3 is a dead competitive game. If you?re thinking about taking CvS2 out, you better replace it with something truly amazing, or simply do not add new games at all.
Tekken 6 ? Same thing, except Tekken has a fanbase that presents itself to tourneys. But the PS3 player base will be limited in both games, and arcades won?t exist. Tekken is much better than SC for a competitive tourney. SC sells more, but MK sells more than both together, and yet there?s no scene. Come to think about it, hate it or not, MK and SC are very alike nowadays.
Melty Blood ? Guilty Gear and CvS 2 are getting the boot and you want Melty Blood??? Except from the very very few Melty Blood players, I don?t think the game should be at Evo, ever. Even MB players think the game can get 80 people next year. 80 people, at a worldwide tourney, is a big joke IMO. SHGL MvC2 biweeklies had more people than that
I mean, if you want to cut games, you don?t want crazy games in.
GG ? They don?t play other games. Other gamers don?t play GG. They like to play team tourneys. They don?t really play to win. A side team tourney is more than enough for GG, but I don?t think it should be ever at the main lineup. 99% of them just want a gathering anyways.
KoF XII ? If the game is amazing and unites the SNK world into just one game, it may be an option. Plus, it would free the BYOC from all those small SNK tourneys because people would want to play KoF XII. If its not absolutely amazing, don’t bother.
Old ST ? There are like 15 guys playing this seriously.
ST HD: This may be a good experience because it is a new game that may or may not attract new players. It is worthy of a test IMO.
CvS2 ? IMO you should only take this one out if you?re planning on making Evo with 2 games only, MvC2 and Third Strike. It is the third biggest game at srk, it is a very competitive game and US and Japan are pretty even. The community is big and they play MvC2 and Third Strike as well.
MvC2 ? This is the number one competitive game in US history. Since we destroyed Japan when they actually played the game in 2000, MvC2 is America?s trademark. It has the craziest money matches by far, it has the most hype by far, and the crazy wild hardcore crowd is really good for getting attention from the press if you try it. Take MvC2 out and Evo will no longer be the main fighting game tournament for US players.
Third Strike ? Almost the same thing. It is like a smaller version of the MvC2 scene but, because of the location, it may draw even more players. Like CvS2 and MvC2 players, they also play other games.
I would always keep MvC2 and Third Strike (unless a next SF comes). I would think hardly about keeping CvS2 as well. I would give a chance to ST HD and that?s it. 4 games. Then I would watch closely for what happens with new games like SC4 and KoF XII to see if they are worthy of a spot. But, IMO, Evo should wait for a community to grow before automatically picking some random game to use. This is what every single Evo member told Apoc about Alpha 3, and it would be reasonable to keep this line of thinking and stop putting random nonfighters at Evo, or even DoA and VF.
I heard commentary for T5 DR sucked balls. Maybe its not the opinion of the majority though. IMHO we need people who actually know the games in depth to commentate, or nothing at all. And unbiased people, of course. If you?re cheering for anybody, you shouldn?t comment.
Oh, yeah, and more Marvel, less everything else would be good too.
