Maybe we will see what happens after Evo east/south/north/west and dessisions can be made after that. I guess I llost all faith in SC4 after seeing them sell out like they did.
I think it shows lack of responsibility. You donāt give a damn about waking up for the finals, unlike the VF players, which is a much smaller comunity than your MvC2 example, but you like to play until late hours in your little rooms.
Thereās an easy solution to start all games later. Just get rid of some of them. If Evo gets rid of GG, youāll be able to wake up 2 or 3 hours later. How about that?
To clear some shit up about what happened regarding Marn not showing up to finals, thus causing a huge delay. Marn was apparently supposed to stay in someoneās room the night before finals night, but since they were assholes they actually said he couldnāt stay in their room (even though they had told him before hand that he could stay with them). With no place to stay, he slept out in the hall on some random floor in the east or west wing. If I recall correctly, his cell phone had died or something similar, and since he didnāt have a room to stay in that night, he had issues recharging his cell phone. With no cell phone, people couldnāt call him to get a hold of him, nor did he have a way to wake himself up with an alarm.
In any case, I think removing GG for once such incident is a poor decision. Since XX, GG has had consistent attendence turn outs at every Evo with little problems, sans dealing with new releases as they come out. Finals for GG at every Evo Iāve been to (2004-2007) have gone on without incident except 2007ās. Itās rather unfair to remove a game from the roster by saying āthe community doesnāt even care about their own gameā when one person out of hundreds of players didnāt show up to finals on time for reasons he couldnāt control. One person does not equal the entire community, so to me it sounds like an excuse to remove the game rather than a reason.
^^^ Sounds like the GG community taking a dump on themselves by leaving Marn out to dry. That isnāt going to help the scene at all. I also remember hearing multiple people from GG finals not present at tourney time. I remember hearing Marn wasnāt the only one. Unless JChensorās blog had false info concerning what happened on Sunday at Evo. I definitely remember reading about more than one person missing. I was sound asleep cuz I donāt play GG seriously butā¦I want to at least watch it at Evo 2k8. It sounded hype.
In any eventā¦with the newest version of GG having a solid US release (bugs fixed from the Japanese version) thereās no reason GG shouldnāt be at Evo next year. GG is a true 2d fighter that easily fits in along the lines of all the other SF related games we play. For onceā¦Guilty Gear will be one of the easier games to run at Evo. Thereās really no reason in my eyes to take GG from Evo other than to punish the community for their āactsā at Evo 2k7. Which I think itās something they would have definitely learned from by now.
As for the SC4 thingā¦I guess you could say that SC4 sold out but if Namco is willing to take advantage of new technology to update the game we could have something. It also depends on whether the US is willing to take on the game seriously despite no planned arcade release for the game.
Oh and YAY for no new version of GG.

I donāt think it was anyone in the GG community that screwed Marn over. No one in the community is malicious enough to do something like that, and if they were Iām sure we wouldāve known who was responsible to pull such a dick move after Evo was over.
I donāt recall anyone other than Marn being really late to finals since his team was up first to play, but Evo was a while ago so my memory is fuzzy; Marnās absence during finals was the one that stuck out most in my mind. If there was anyone else missing/late for finals, I donāt really remember.
4/11 GG Players were present at 11:00 the start time. We were able to run zero matches till about 11:30am, because of slackers.
Being up till 4am isnt an excuse, its poor time management.
Personally I was up till 4am on Sunday morning, and showed up at 8am. Go Figure.
Yeahā¦you just have to take an importance to just getting up on time and being ready for your game. I think people have just taken the tournament for granted and now itās time for a reality check. I mean I wouldnāt be the happiest person if I had to wake up 9 in the morning to play in a tourney (I like sleep) but if I know Iām in the running for money Iām going to be there on time to do what I need to do. Just have to save going clubbing and playing games till later the next day.
Oh and how is it that no one in the GG community was able to give Marn a room? Sounds like he opted to stay in some random peopleās room.
If CVS2 is taken out for Smash, thats a guarantee I will not be coming to Evoā¦Iām sure alot of people agree with that as well. Regardless of the injection of mainstream fighters into the Evolution Series, the event at its core should still have SF titles as part of the tournament. But nonetheless, it looks like that might happen sadly enough.
Sometimes I wish it just stayed as the Battle Bay the Bay Seriesā¦but Evo has proven to be an amazing thing for the scene I just hope that SF doesnāt become removed from it. I personally donāt dig 3s much and would rather watch ST and CVS2, but 3s is popular so I understand why it draws so many people. But seriously, Smash Brothers?..Let them make their own tournamentsā¦
Those are terrible odds. Meanwhile, Dark Geese, FunkDoc, and Myself got our asses out of bed after being up just as late to get Yosuke there for the 9am VF finals, and we had to drive over from the Golden Nugget. Arrived at GVR at 8:30.
I donāt see CVS2 getting taken out. Itās just one of those staple SF games that should stay IMO. VF or GG has a higher chance of not being there than CVS2 IMO. CVS2 still brings 100 + people. Itās not like itās DOA and people just donāt show. Yetā¦itās up to the big guys to decide what stays and I wouldnāt necessarily be surprised if CVS2 is in the running to get kicked out. I would hope thereās maybe some last minute efforts theyāre creating to keep from having to omit games butā¦at least 3rd aināt going anywhere. :lol:
I donāt think its a matter of deciding or determining which game is better, or which game takes more skill or what the other community is like. I think its about making evo the best and biggest fighting game tournament possible.
It already is the biggest and best outside SBO, but it can be better. I think the change that needs to happen is that the capcom fanatacism of the majority of srk needs to not get in the way of other fighters and cut them some slack so the tournament can grow.
I for one donāt believe that smash or Doa4 is as deep or on the same level as Marvel, 3s, and the other 2-d games including GG, but they do have huge communities.
It really isnāt fair to compare players across these games either. Someone with 3yrs of Marvel will win at Marvel. Someone with 3yrs of smash will win at smash. People play different games. I donāt think its fair to boast that people like Wong and Choi are better because they can play multiple games either, when alll the capcom street-fighter games are essentially the same thing, or different versions of eachother. If you are already a very experienced sf player, picking up another game does not take very long, though understandably Wong, Choi and the maybe 2-3 other people on their lvl are ridiculously good.
I would love to see some srk players pick up smash and dominate into smash top 16, or 32 and I would love to see a smash player do the same with marvel. I think really, the more games that can be added in the better so we can see things like this happen and the entire community grow as whole. We all love those grudge mm;s anyway.

Why canāt other communities have their own shit? I think itās blasphemous to take any popular, tournament-worthy SF game out of Evo, in favor of some other game.
But I also understand that itās business, and holding ST instead of Smash or even Guilty Gear or VF, in effect is next to worthless from a business standpoint.
It just comes down to what the purpose of Evo is, and will be in the future. Iām sure the goal is to hold a comprehensive, representative, enjoyable tournament for the FGC. That canāt come in the way of the money though. The money is necessary for all of this, so decisions have to be made.
Arlieth and I had to wake up extra early, just to set up and confirm our space for Melty Blood, the time when there is hardly anyone in the event hall, and the GG players had to ask us for room for casuals because they took their sweet time getting there, thinking that they would have a spot saved for them.
Yeahā¦I would hope that SRK is still trying to be the forerunner of tournaments for the 2d fighting game community. By that meaning the SF community. Hopefully no decisions are made that alienates the SF community. I definitely believe that SRK should be about SF since that is its roots. SRK over the years has definitely become a more āgeneralā fighting game site but SRK for me just isnāt the same without the emphasis on SF.
