Evolution X (2008): Decade of Domination!

Someone give this man a dollar.

I’d support VF5 and GG myself. ST will never die, ever so that’s a given. Marvel is too hype, even if it is kinda lame. 3s constantly has new players which means there will always be someone there to play it. I think CvS2 needs to go. The tournies are soooooooo boring for it now.

I’ve played ST for the last ten years not even knowing that there were still tournaments for it.

I also thought the scene for CvS 2 was dead and i still bought it.

Both of those games are dear to me. Hell i play at least an hour or two of CvS 2 daily.

you brought up A2, but that had a sequel so of cousre people will move on. and as for A3 it lost out to all the new Vs. series games when they came out. (with a groove who the hell wants v-ism?)

If there were sequels to either MvC2 or CvS 2 i’m sure we’d be playing those instead. But until there is a Capcom 2D fighting game that is as advanced and playable as CvS2 or MvC2 they should not get replaced

I think 3s is kinda stale myself, but i won’t say that its a bad game. Furthermore until the community shifts away from it, i think it should stay.

You’re pretty crazy in this post. GG guys are the ones who can’t get the numbers or be awake at the finals. MvC2 and the others have like four majors a year since their launch (ECC, MWC, Final Round, NEC, Ohio, Texas, pick your choice). MvC2 is at Evo because it always had and still have a huge scene. Same for CvS2. 3S is still more surprising. It was really small and the community fought really hard to grow and bring it to Evo. One of the steps was to play the finals instead of being asleep somewhere also.

You have a valid point against ST, but Capcom will launch ST HD and it deserves our support, so things like SF4 can keep happening.

I will not campaign against GG anymore (although IMO is the logical choice to leave), but acting like GG has the biggest or more commited community is kind of a long shot. You act like GG is the game with huge money matches and incredibly loud crowds while Marvel players just appear there as a side job. I didn’t see a single Marvel player sleeping during DPC vs Wong.

IMO, when SF4 is out, all the other SFs can be put to rest. Evo can have a lot of players, and a lot of press, and SF4 can be a biggest main event that with our support may generate more and more fighting games in the future. Other SF games (including Alpha series) could be side tourneys, and maybe games that are much diffferent like MvC2, SSBM or even GG could stay

I will be there if you guys have VF5. I guess some Japanese players who mainly play VF5 and play tekken, GG and St will come to Evo as well. The number of VF tournaments is the biggest in Japan, and VF players like visiting more than other game players.

people who play on live =/= people who go to tournaments.

Seriously. Look at all the “big hype” we got from last year and the DOA tournament. Online players usually STAY online. The people sponsoring the event don’t want to pay for no-shows again.

Of all the people who registered for the VF5 tournament last year, almost all of them (if not all) showed up.

We’re a small but incredibly dedicated fanbase.

QFT.

At least you may announce the tournament and set a minimal amount of players needed to run the tournament.

I vote for definitely running ST HDR (in the remix-mode), and definitely continuing on with CvS2.

In the original post, the above two games are both being debated for opposite reasons. ST HDR, because it will scare off old top-players (whether by them being beaten or apathetic, both of which I find relatively unlikely; David Sirlin is behind it afterall), and CvS2, because there aren’t enough new (top) players.

Give the new blood a chance to catch up in CvS2, we can do it. I think CvS2 should be among the more static games.

If you have to make a compromise of some kind, for CvS2 to still be an official, non-side thingy, please consider the single-elimination as a compromise. This may be quite annoying to some vets, but it’s not all that new, conceptually, when compared to Japanese tournies. Plus it actually does give new blood even more chances to compete; as well as allowing ‘funky shit’ (things that catch people off guard) to work, thus, enabling even more rare-characters to be used (Double elimination in some ways limits people to use only what works twice). I know at least 6 people personally, that are definitely planning on attending the nearest regional Evo (Texas), for CvS2, in Aurora CO alone. Also I know 2-3 (including myself) who plan on the same for ST (I haven’t met anyone that would prefer classic ST over the HDR non-classic ST. I think everyone is gunning for this new version).

I don’t necessarily prefer single-elimination, but if that’s what it takes… by all means go for it. Just don’t take away CvS2.

There are a couple stragglers I know of who will opt for GG:AC and VF5, but to me, I don’t care enough to strive for Evo on those 2 (though I’m voting yes, as a secondary to the above Cvs2 and ST).

I would agree to most of those, good options :wgrin:

Any chance of Brawl being played in Teams instead of Singles? It would also probably save time.

CVS2 should have the same tournament rules as Third Strike. Pools is 2/3 and finals, etc. 3/5 or 4/7. It can be done by using the 1 on 1 match mode where it’s like classic Street Fighter instead of Ratio Match!!!

samething for doa4

And neither of those games performed on a level that deserves a repeat performance at Evolution this year. CVS2, 3S, and MvC2 are the only games I would choose as definite returns based on the communities and past Evolution turnout. ST HD is essentially a remake of the classic that started the entire Evolution tournament series, so it too deserves a spot. Aside from that, I would expect the tournament directors to choose a new game to give time to this year, if anything else at all will be present, due to the focus on a smaller retinue of games this time around.

Evo X

can anyone tell me when evo x or 2k8 is at where is it located at… address and city please

I dont know if it has been decided or what but GG has been getting more and more people entering the tournments as time goes. We organize tournments regularly that have good turnouts and there is an american release. The only question is will they make another version (It doesnt seem so) and will it be teams or singles?
The only reason why I want it to be a major is because its more hype. Big screen, interviews, recorded matches, playing the Japanese. All that.

That said I also dont think that SC4 should be a major for a couple reasons. After watching the trailer today it just does not seem like a game people can take seriously. Darth Vader? WTF? I also dont think that it can build a strong enouph scene before EVO. We are looing at maybe 30 people max. If i were to make a suggestion I would take out SC4 and put in Guilty Gear and Tekken. VF is good but there just isnt enough of a scene for that either. Thats what I think, I am not hating on anything either, I am just giving my oppinions and would like to hear a response.

Side not on sleeping: I dont care what anyone thinks putting it up that early is too much. Im a big ST fan and that was too early. Got there late for that too. I dont think waking up like that proves your comitment at all. A lot of us were awake til 4am playing that game anyway, that shows more commitment I think. I bet if you made MVC2 early then you would have half the people it had watching it.

NO, what Evo is trying to emulate, is the arcade settings. Single mode isn’t even playable in arcade, and 1 on 1 CvS2 is a way different game.

Remember the YAMAOOUT or whatever that password for CVS2 is?

Soul Calibur has always had a pretty decent scene, and unless SC4 bombs with the community, Evo should get a nice amount of players (more than 30, that’s for sure).

And to say that the game wouldn’t be taken seriously is laughable. Smash Bros is mad competitive, and it’s a game filled with “kiddy” Nintendo characters. Even Soul Calibur 2 has had a decent turnout at earlier Evolutions, and that game had Spawn and Link in it (granted, they weren’t in the arcade release and therefore banned from tournament play, but that isn’t the point).

I think the reason people can’t take it seriously is because NAMCO doesn’t seem to take it seriously.
That said, let MLG run that game. Keep SC4 out, please.
