CvS2 (I dont wanna see it next year, but it still too good. So it might stay.)
I know cats hate smash. I come to like it a lil bit and wouldn’t mind seeing Brawl. I’m sick of the norm, but will not fight it against because it’s all the same to me.
If you mean as a whole…then maybe. True…there are a quite a few people that are playing 3S just because it’s the go to game at Evo but I definitely play 3S because I have a passion for the game. I wouldn’t be constantly running myself in tournaments with a mid tier at best character if I didn’t have a passion for the game. There are a lot of people that play 3S for the spirit of the game. Both in Japan and in the US. It just also happens to be the most popular 2d fighter in the US so naturally there are going to be players that just kinda donate money at events but even they contribute to the numbers and that’s ultimately what sponsors see.
Also, what do you mean by GG staying to to the spirit of Evo? I’m guessing you’re implying that the people that play Guilty Gear have more of a passion for the game than people that play other games. Which isn’t true. There’s way too many top players in those Capcom games that you mentioned that have a DEEP passion for the game. You’re literally discrediting the players that invest time into those games and put up serious money for them when you say that. ST and MVC2 especially are good examples of games that you must have a passion for. I can’t see too many people playing either of those games (ESPECIALLY Marvel) unless they have a thing for the game. Both games aren’t games that you can really get into if you dont have a real desire to play the game. You can’t make it in either of those games if you just play them because they are there. There’s too many things you have to understand in both of those games to just be like “well ok…I feel like entering Marvel this time”. No…you’ll fucking die. People don’t like to constantly lose and neither of those games give much leeway to people with a lack of knowledge or passion of the game.
Actually I find CVS2 one of the more entertaining games to watch at Evo (especially the finals). The more you understand about the game the more interesting it becomes. It’s definitely not one of those fighters where something is always going on. There’s times where people are just looking to space each other out and having to wait for 3 characters to die on either end with 3 or 4 second load times is a bit taxing. Yet…like football it’s all build up for something good later on.
Would those players still be playing CvS2, MvC2 and ST if it wasn’t featured in tournaments?
Sure each game has its set of gamers that’ll play it for another 10 years regardless of it being in a major tournament again. But it isn’t like GG. If ST, CvS2 or Marvel don’t make it back next year, I don’t see the majority of those players grouping together and start doing their own majors. To start petitioning to get it back, to do whatever it takes to get representation at a major. They’ll fade away like the A2 scene did, and like the A3 scene did.
lol, I would. I love watching some japanese team tear another japanese team apart :wonder:. Also whether any of my local peeps come with me or not is probably dependent on their being a GG event as thats all they’d travel to compete in.
Seriously, I plan on attending Evo this year and I plan on watching the CvS2, 3S, and GG finals if they are represented because I love watching them. Also donating my money to the 3s pool .
Obviously SF players. But the players from 10 years ago and the players now are entirely different. Growing up in completely different scenes. And lets be honest, the vast majority of players now a days just aren’t as hungry as the players 10 years ago.
Even we even have big marvel heads that admit that the only reason why they practice up is because of evolution. Had marvel not been in evo they wouldn’t practice up. IIRC SooMighty said that a few years ago.
If they continue to fight to have their game in a major tournament then I would be inclined to say “yes”.
You guys threw T5.0 when DR wasn’t on console yet.
T6 will not be on console by next Evo, I am sure but the DR community is alive and kicking. You can’t consider not having it in, after T5.0 went in twice. (which was a horrible game)
I am sure the Tekken community would support DR @ Evo 2k8.
I know that, but what I meant was. The year DR was out (but not on console) T5.0 got thrown in, which was a bad game. This year coming up, T6 will be out on Arcades, but not console. I am sure DR will have people entering if it is at Evo. Just my 2cents though.
I doubt the people in the US would jump onto the Tekken 6 bandwagon right off the bat. The arcade machine is expensive and importing makes it worse, since shipping is done by weight. Not that I am saying that the Japanese players would either. I think it all boils down to SBO6 when it comes to Japan.
I speak on behalf of all VF5 fans (all 50 of us that showed up to the finals) when I say that I would really like for it to stay on the roster at least one more year. With the 360 version gaining momentum and rumors of online support for the PS3 coming soon, it could help start the scene that VF has desperately needed in the US. With the players from Japan and the UK as well, I think we could make our presence known at Evo X. Even if it means using the 360 version this time around, I would really like to see VF5 given another chance.
That being said, I think MVC/3S/CVS2 should all stay (as many have said already) and that SSBM should be switched for SSBB. I also support the notion of keeping GG around.
If you have to get rid of anything, make it Tekken.
