You just went back to sleep anyway, even when I tried to wake you up.
yeah, MLG will keep smash.
I just find more publicity at EVO (championship for fighting games) and than MLG (championship for Halo and smash only)
MLG is mostly known for the Halo 2 tornaments, and the Halo players hate the smash players.
so do most sf players lol thats y half of us walkd outta the building during their finals
smash finals are too damn long im pretty sure its longer then 2/3 cvs2
frankly, I find Halo players to be obnoxious at times. Iāve even heard some of them say that fighting games only consist of button mashing. The nerveā¦:arazz:
I think it would be a travesty to get rid of CvS2. It is an incredibly deep game, though tough to learn (damn all those links!!!), and top level play is too good. Justin vs Nestor at East was the highlight of that whole weekend for me and I donāt even play the game. In any case, I really only have one point to make.
For the love of God, if you are trying to add some new flavor to the lineup, donāt make it Puzzle Fighter. Make it an SNK game. Donāt get it confused, I donāt play any SNK games, not a single one, and I never have, but throw Dark Geese a fucking bone here. The guy is going to go broke on this SNK world tour of his, and you canāt think of a better game than Puzzle Fighter to bring in the new interest? This is as basic as it gets. Bringing in Smash is one thing, they have an established fan base, that wasnāt exactly a gamble. But if you are just looking for something to fill a hole, why would you choose Puzzle Fighter over KOF XI or whatever the SNK game to play is? SNK is still making 2D games, why not give them a shot? No matter how many threads and forums and sites are dedicated to rallying people to buy the game and travel half a globe for some competition, it wonāt happen that way. This seems like the perfect opportunity to gain some exposure. Dark Geese is creating the fanbase already, give him a shot at EVO and see what comes of it. I would bet my house that there wouldnāt be more people watching Puzzle Fighter than KOF XI.
Now to make it clear, I think the current EVO lineup is perfect. Literally perfect. From a personal standpoint I donāt think any necessary games are missing. I am not a fan of Tekken or or Smash or GG really, but I understand why they are there. If something must be done, I say manage time better so there is no best of 1 crap. However, if the powers that be have already decided in some super secret meeting that the new plan is to cut the rotation and add a new game, and this thread is just a ploy to see what the crowd reaction would be, then my input is as I mentioned. Try an SNK game. Its not blasphemy. Its common sense.
its the same way around, see the only way they would respect you is if you could beat them at their game, then you could shut them up.
A-men. KoF 98 Ultimate Match or KoF XII (if its out on time) would be prime canidates. Hell, even NGBC and KoFXI are a pleasure to watch. Very flashy games.
Wow. You canāt be this off. EVERY GAME requires you to go to a tourney to test your skill. You canāt get good at Marvel just like that. ESPECIALLY Marvel. Marvel is a game of true multi-tasking in a fighter. So much is being done in just 5 seconds that it takes precise timing and execution just to get rid of that one character. So many variables on the playing field prevent you from getting good in ā1 hourā. A lot of people get good in Marvel in a few months because itās the game they focus on the most. Of course, youāre gonna get good if your comp is up there with you(Yipes has Justin, Infinite, Smoothviper, etc.), but your test of skill is always going to be at a tournament.
There is more pressure in one single game of Marvel than there is to any other game. In 3S you have two rounds, in ST you have two rounds, in CvS2 you have 3 characters and in Marvel all 3 characters are present due to assists. Unblockables, high/low mixups, infinites, guardbreaking and all that other stuff that makes Marvel what it is adds up to that constant pressure.
Donāt act like Smash is the only game where you have to attend a tourney just to get a feel of your competitors. You have to get your ass kicked in EVERY fighter in order to get somewhere. You do realize that Marvel is played differently by each player, right? Same goes with every fighter.
To be fair, we hate the Halo players, also.
true dat
retarded comments dont need to be quoted. you obviously never played the game seriously
Smash stays because it brings people to Evo and more people = more money = more sponsorship.
Smashās popularity as much as we hate it eclipses every other game on this side of the pacific.
I completely agree. I even go as far to say that Justin Wong probably goes deeper in Marvel than any Smash player in their main game. Maybe next year they can setup a MM with 2 games. Justin plays a top Smash player in Marvel and then in Smash. I donāt think the Smash player will gather many bets to his side. Smash players didnāt have to face guys like Valle, Ricky and Duc to get where they are today. And they also still canāt claim their game is harder than any other because, unlike mr Wong, they havenāt placed at any tourneys for other games. It is simply humanly impossible to practice Marvel for only one or two years and place nowadays, and this includes coming to tournaments as well.
Iām sure Smash is great, but what Iām really sure is that Marvel goes really deep.
About Evo X, I got a different idea.
You donāt have problems running the qualifiers, right? One idea that may or may not work but can save a lot of free time is to keep just Marvel and 3S open to everybody. For all the other games the players would have to place on one of the qualifiers to be allowed to play at Evo World. Then the Evo World tourney would look a lot like that MvC1 invitational at B5.
The main con is that most people who are interested in competing will have to spend more money to attend one of the qualifiers, or come directly to Evo and fight for a quick last chance qualifier like the Tougeki one. The japanese can either play the last chance qualifier, get a few spots saved for them, or both.
The pros are that not only will be really easy to run the tournaments on time, but it also allows more tourneys to be thrown. If most tourneys will have only 32 people you can not only have the 8 classic tourneys but also throw some stuff like MvC1 to get the online players, MKA to get casuals, KOF to get the SNK players, well, lots of different things could be tested.
It is a pretty unpolished idea and it may be even a bad one, but I thought it would be nice to throw my 2 cents at it.
Truth. Doesnāt matter if you dont like Smashā¦it brings heads and itās the closest thing we have now to a new age style fighting game. Itās fresh and it brings heads. Thatās all there is to it.
I didnāt post this to bash on Smash players, or to encourage others to bash it. I just understand that Evo may have to grow without it. Iād rather it didnāt, but considering that there are too many other fan bases with needs of their own, and that next Evo is aiming for a 6 game maximum, Smash may not get the support it needs to grow. In fact, it may be detrimental for numbers in the future⦠unless someone suggests a way for Smash players to integrate themselves into our community w/o overtaking the spotlight. The real question is, are the Smash players willing to adapt?
Well if Evo is aiming for a 6 game maximum then that might be troublesome. SNK really does need a fighting chance at Evo for once I think. Probably will never get it.
It does, but until someone in the SNK scene can guarantee and prove to the Evo staff that the SNK game will bring in over 100 or so entries I donāt think theyāll bother.
Evo 2005 (?) gave 2002 that chance and hardly anyone voted/registered for it. Itās a crying shame really cause Iād love to see a SNK title go down at Evo.
so much smash hate for no reason
I donāt see why all the hate is coming on the game lineup. Lineup is fine the way it is for now. If you wanna do something new, rotate the lineup every few years. We all know what the staples are for EVO. If you wanna give newer games a chance, rotate one of the staples/high secondary games at least every other year. bring in new blood, more varietyā¦thatās something ya can try. CUTTING a game completely from the lineup is bad news for everyone.
My main concern is how the event was ran this year. I couldnāt make it this year due to work. Reading the forums and talking to some peeps that went, I would be upset as well. I donāt place the blame entirely on the EVO staff. players fucked up too. late showing for pools/finals delays what is already a long schedule. Stricter timelines would relieve some stress, but not solve the problem. I would suggest making it a 4 day event since it would give more time for everything. Also, it would give leeway for time in case some shit happens that no one can prevent. I did notice that button configuration took up a lot of time during matches. Thereās has to be something that can be done about that as wellā¦
Only other thing I can think of is the special eventsā¦itās cool to have some hype for a big tourny like this. However, it shouldnāt distract from the main reason we all go; for the tourny. Maybe they should be done after finals/in transtion between games. Give something the crowd to watch while EVO staff is prepping for the next game.
