Evolution X (2008): Decade of Domination!

We’ve got this planned for Evo next year ;O.

And I can guarantee you Arcana Heart is going to be making hella noise too.

Considering the turnout for Guilty Gear this year, it appears that the team format is just not practical for this particular event. No matter how much I would love to see excitement and support for everyone’s local teams, after reading this entire thread, and people’s opinions on dustloop, I now think it would be detrimental to this event to hold Guilty Gear in team format. The sole reason I’m arguing for singles is there could be more invidiual responsiblity at Evo. As you know, some people were late for their finals and pools, so people may be more likely to show up if all the responsibility is placed on each person and his or her own reputation.

I heard attendance wasn’t good for VF5.Didn’t meet the quota and might be cut

Its possible to see an insurgence of new players with the 360 version coming, but its not for sure. Also, many players are just 100% certain we cannot beat the japanese at that game. :looney: Duh, not till we have a scene. Otome practically commanded me to buy it when it comes out for 360, so I hope it stays around (so that he comes back to evo so we can hang out! love you Yosuke (no homo))!

Did i not say i may be wrong about evo. From what i saw where i live where there are over 80 to 100 people most where under 18 years old. I suggested it because of what i saw, please read more carefully.
Also time does have to do with it whether you like it or not, and like i said before they don’t have to switch it. I understand that cvs2/marvel/3s are the main events so im not trying to convince them to switch the time. I am just trying to back up why gg had a small audience for finals.

please don’t look at this as a hate reply, just review what im saying. I think im being pretty passive in this paragraph.

We can’t beat the Japanese at Virtua fighter…

Go Figure

But I am praying that Virtua Fighter for the Xbox 360 blows up overnight.I have hella respect for that game.

Cutting CVS2 is something I dont agree with…

If CVS2 is not at EVO next year, I won’t be going.

For as big as the evolution tournaments have gotten I still seem them as the “B” series…which no matter what at the core was still about SF.

The following is quoted for emphasis and was said previously in the thread earlier

**Taking cvs2 out and putting in puzzle fighter will definitely bring in more people to get to play fighting games and out number the number of cvs2 entrants evo gets every year for sure. YEAH RIGHT.

I can’t believe whether cvs2 stays or not is even a question here. It gets solid amount of people every year and has a lot of dedicated players coming to evo mainly for cvs2, and lately it’s been seeing a lot of newfound maturity in its gameplay (mainly through more character variety and groove variety). Let’s compare the level of hype between cvs2 finals and puzzle fighter HD finals. It’s so obvious which game brings in more of basically everything.

Also, by taking out cvs2, it discourages a chunk of fighting game players from coming to evo not only for cvs2 but for other games because they don’t just enter cvs2 and nothing else.**

Its also another game that we’re able to compete with the Japanese in and its something alot of people look forward to seeing every year. The US gets closer and closer each year competitively with the Japanese in CVS2 and there has been alot of growth in the game within the past few years. CVS2 is what I look forward to when it comes to evo…CVS2 still has hype to it–no reason for it to go.

In the end, Evo should be about SF games at the core–games like smash are popular yes, and should be included to an extent but in no way should any game have the power to supercede an SF game. I really don’t want to see CVS2 be taken out simply because it can’t match Smash Brothers numbers. I know that this particular aspect is bias toward SF but that’s what I care about. I don’t care about the Smash community, I respect that they have a community and have no issue with Smash being at Evo as long as CVS2 is still there.

I know this is constantly being brought up but I would like to put my 2 cents into it, the GG scene is about to explode with the up coming American release.

1.) GG is now getting talked about on 1up.com, gamefaqs.com and Ign.com, it also was actually number one on the Hype meeter for a weekend. We just need to try and direct these people to dustloop or just show them good videos (because the ones on Ign and 1up suck hard) to try and get them interested to compete at a high level.

2.) With an American release it will be a lot easier for Anime conventions to have the game played, and this will expose a lot of people that enjoy that style of game to it. Yes i understand that not all of the people that play it at an anime convention are going to run out and try to become a top player like FlashMetroid but if we even get a small number of people that are exposed to it to start playing competitively that will be huge. (I started when i first saw this game at an anime convention.)

Also about the time slot and the people not showing up for the final, I understand that it sucked… people showing up that is not the time slot, but there is nothing we can do about that now and please do not punish a whole community for the mistakes that where made by a few people.

official marvel team tourney, plz.

roughly 40 teams this year. Biggest non-official event by far. (Continues dreaming)

Make cvs2 a team tourney. Whether official or semi-official. I think 1 game is best suited for a team tourney atmosphere/set-up. Maybe it will “liven-up” the tournament. I enjoy watching/participating in this tournament. Teams would be great, maybe some us/japan combos =X!?!

Also, make gg a “side” tourney. I pretty much considered it a side tourney.

GG needs a dude like dark geese, who makes his nationals/majors coincide with the evo series. If it gets dropped, someone should step up and hold it down to prove the evo series wrong about what is thought towards their community.

Only problem is unless Sammy/Arc Systems somehow decides to break the trend…there will be a new version of the game coming out and everyone’s US releases will become obsolete. Which that version of the game again I’m sure will release on the Japanese PS2 right before Evo and that’s the version a majority of GG players are gonna wanna play. Apparently there were enough differences between just the arcade and console versions of Accent Core to keep some Japanese players from going to Evo.

Teams I think give the game a bit of a unique flavor. Especially considering everyone usually plays the Japanese version of the game at Evo it’s like the random Japanese factor. Everyone gets into teams and one game per person like SBO. Only difference being the double elimination thing.

There will be plenty of time to deal with that if it is the case, the arcade version would be out way beforehand like it was for Slash and AC by the end of this year. The stateside release will help grow the community whether AC is the version everyone is playing by next Evo or not, gathering more new players (from the ps2 AND wii release) and making events easier to run (and bugless, hopefully!)

Who knows, if it is successful enough maybe we’ll get the next version of GG out in America much closer to when it’s released in Japan.

Regarding your last statement…the way American gaming corporations have been treating 2d fighting games lately…I really doubt it. I really hope that Evo will eventually some day change things for the better and it’s helping. It’s just Sony and Microsoft just see sales and when you aren’t selling 100,000 plus copies of your game in the first month (let alone first week) they look at reasons why. When they see it’s because it’s some obscure 2d fighting game…yeah. It’s just not a game that the US masses play and they’re not really looking to cater to a game that has such a niche audience in the US.

I do agree with you on the point that an American release will help gather newer players. Especially those that are too lazy to mod their systems or just simply dont believe in the whole pirating thing. Most serious Guilty Gear players usually still buy at least a legit copy of the game though.

I was actually referring to Aksys Games getting the next version released if this one is successful, they are behind the US AC release.

You must live in Idaho or something.

If we do indeed get cut from Evo this year, that will happen, I’ll organize the event my damn self (with the help of the crew, of course.)

That would suck most for ME because I play ALL capcom games, and GG.

Isnt this what we(marvel players) do to our selves already???

I would like to apologize for not showing up to Guilty Gear Finals seeing as I set my alarm and then awoke with my room laughing at me because I missed it. I’m sorry guys…

No one bothered waking you up? I know its not there problem or anything, but still.

I live in Socal.

But there are only a couple of places nearby (I’m talkin 30 min drive or less) where you can get nearby GGAC casuals.

Everybody I know will have a copy soon, so that problem will be fixed.

What about getting rid of Smash? As crazy as that sounds, won’t there be a place for the SSB players once Brawl comes out? I’m pretty sure MLG will want to pick it up.
