I only skimed conversation so no big opinon that I have but…
I think its pretty dum for stuff like GG needs to stand up for themselves or show up or whatever the fuck. GG has been the bastard child of EVO for quite awhile now. GG players have to stick up for themselves more then others by far.
GG players have had to deal with having to XX that one year when reload was out. Had to fight for slash that one year even though it won every vote, and even then it had to be teams… Had to fight for AC this year even though it wins the votes. BS…
GG players have to fight all teh fucking time. Lets not forget that evo has also had VF tourny when it was not out in US, and VF gets way less then GG that I know. And they didnt have to fight like GG did.
And we gotta deal with this team crap. A new game should never be team, especialy when EVO should have been the first BIG slash and AC tourny. The “best” to say hasnt even been decided yet. GG should have been given its single “time” to say. Next year if its AC or whatever and its team thats fine. Games not new anymore. It can take a back seat to say and just be team yawn fuck blah whatever… And that one argument(Not sure if it was in this thread dont remember)that GG people WANTED team tourny. Thats bs IIRC we had to settle for team or else no slash period etc since not enough consoles. I dont recall there ever being a vote where everyone wanted teams over singles. GG players always had to take what they could get.
Though to say again I wasnt at evo so I dunno how many people showed up… But GG doesnt seem to be on the rise to me… GG was at its peak around that reload time when everyone had to play XX instead of reload. Seemed to me that was when the most GG tournies were sometime around then shrug.
Anyway umm yea ah… So yea I wasnt at evo, dunno what happend in GG but GG has always had to step, more so then they should have to. shrug
Oh and id almost say yea for the new remix mode of ST. I dont see how it can be the same as old ST. Its already obvious the characters dont look the same to say. Even if there hit boxs yadda yadda are still the same, they look bigger and wierder so where they hit is now going to be deceptive. So even something little like that might throw you off a bit. As long as the remix mode is senseable enough to say, id almost say might as well do that if thats what needs to be done to have some sort of ST shrug.
Great post. I definitely like seeing the GG players sticking up for the game in a level headed manner and explaining what’s going on with their community. Well thought out.
Dial: I don’t think we’ll have to fight this year, simply because no new version is slated to come out, AND there’s going to be a US release. At this point, GG:AC is pretty much a shoe-in, and after the hassle the staff had to go thru, they’ll more than likely be going back to singles.
I think the people who have to fight the most for games next year will be the Tekken and VF crew, probably the CVS2 crew.
How can people want to cut ST. Even if you forget that the sf2 series defined the genre, no sf2, no every other fighting games today, then look at it this way. Its getting a make over as we speak, and its gonna be on 2 next gen consoles. Its also being pushed by capcom. You would have to be absolutely insane not to want it at the next evo.
Capcom: Hi evo staff, want some extra prize money and extra goodies for ST:HDr this year?
Evo Staff: Nah, some ppl didn’t want it there!
Capcom: But your community wanted our support for years. Well if your not gonna support our game, then we won’t support you.
One of the criteria for games at Evo is a large, hardcore competitive community. This is different from “lots of people play game X.” There’s plenty of room for casual fun play at Evo, but the featured games are tournaments, where the competitive spirit is extremely important. While it is true that we occasionally give a game a break (cough, DOA4), games need to step up to the plate to be reinvited the following year.
Practically NO ONE showed up for the GG finals this year. Do I mean spectators? Yes, but I also mean the competing teams! All four were MIA. Evo championship and $5 grand on the line, and no one showed up. This is not, shall we say, “encouraging.”
i can agree with flash totally. i dont feel that a new LOOKING version of ST will bring in numbers.
as for the comment on PZ and cvs, well i mean we held it and yet ppl still didnt show up for it…8-1o entries isnt quite a cvs tournament. but i will not go into that…that is not the topic of discussion here. no matter wut in terms of street fighter? 3s as i stated already, completely overshadows cvs. however if it was an 8 or 7 game lineup again i can see no reason to not drop it either. but if its going to be 6, of the capcom games that have the most entries is simply put, 3s and marvel. i dont think cvs at this point has much room to grow anymore. cvs does draw its numbers but time is an issue for ANY tournament and this game isnt always the greatest in this aspect. any tourny organizer will most likely want to start cvs as early as possible no matter how many entrants. 1 game barely even cuts back the time in half.
now i’ve heard smash was jus as long as cvs if not longer? if so then when brawl is released, a new format will obviously be formulated to make it fair and keep with in the time restraints. so in that regard i feel smash will be fine.
If you’re saying GG doesn’t have that community, you’re horribly mistaken.
If it was 2v2 or singles, and/or at a better time-slot I gaurantee it would have been way bigger. The player who wasn’t there for his match wasn’t awake for it because it was so early. Using something that was caused by a decision by someone in the Evo staff as a reason to get rid of GG from Evo seems like someone just wants the game out.
At least a good decision was made about changing it from Slash to AC, otherwise the room really would have been empty.
The problem is, all of the VF5 players showed up on time. With GG after it, there’s really no excuse. Being early clearly hurt the attendance (of the audience)… that’s to be expected. However, not showing up to play for 5k, not acceptable. If you know you are in the finals tomorrow playing for your team (and even your country), get some rest.
I don’t see how the VF5 players showing up means anything at all, the fact is most of the AUDIENCE wasn’t awake for the event (which seems to be a be the much bigger issue because of needing a big competitive community). There was one player who didn’t show up for Guilty Gear, and the hotel alarm and his cell phone didn’t work/wake him up. A few absences/tardiness for GG (Were the teams were late or what? It seemed like it started on time…) and validifying that as a reason to drop a game from evo by comparing it to attendance of another game that played earlier seems ridiculous. The GG timeslot was horrible, there is no denying it.
Even if I didnt have to drive 20 minutes to get Otome there on time for Virtua, I STILL would have been there for ALL the finals.
Am I the only one who finds it to be disrespectful to not watch the finals?
This quote above is certainly very discouraging, but not just at Guilty. At the fighting game community that should be sticking tightly together. I even sat though the Tekken finals and I hate that garbage. I cheered and clapped and encouraged the top players, like we all should.
I got top 3 in GG and qualified in every game except for 3s becuase I was DQed I didnt get top 8 in multiple games but how many people did?
Valle placed top 8 in 3S ONLY and it was 1 game aka bullshit tourney not saying he sucks but 2 matches instead of 1 agianst justin could of changed that(and for the record Valle plays GG)
Choi…I dont remember seeing him anywhere(maybe st but I was eating during those finals along with like 50 other people)
Justin wong…is Justin wong…
Also for the record Justin and Yipes are both playing GG officially thnx to the official US release of GG(another reason why this game is gonna get bigger unlike the dying ST)
Back then when we were at Reload our numbers were just as big as the big games but we were still dealing with BS now were dealing with the BS agian but this time you guys bust out the numbers but before what was it it wasnt numbers?
The GG community lets Evo staff do everything what exactly does the Marvel, CvS2, ST, 3s community do that we dont?
As far as I know all the other communities havent done anything but maybe im wrong
This is the stupidest crap i’ve heard. How in the hell is it Evo staff’s fault that GG players did not show up? This is a tournament people! Not a vacation. Stop sleeping in!
Also, to the people complaining about not being able to get a BYOC TV for their casuals or side events… WAKE UP IN THE AM! Its not that hard! Every hotel room comes equipped with an alarm clock! :looney:
It’s entirely the fault of the player that showed up late that he wasn’t there (I am not defending him), but using that one player’s blunder as a reason to drop the game? (He DID set the hotel alarm)
Also, expecting lots of people to show up before noon in VEGAS? Please.
i think that any attempt to combine this particular capcom community with the gg community is a mistake. and having finals at 10am on a sunday was a silly idea since it was a saturday night and everyone was out drunk until 5am naturally. gg is a community of drunks<3
1.Put any SF game at 11am and see how nobody shows up everyone saturday night goes out to have a good time get drunk its vegas blah blah blah im willing to put money that if ST or CvS2 was scheduled for 11am nobody would show up…
2.I personally never even look at the schedule…and I know alot of the gg plyers thought it would be around the same time it was for the past 4 years I know I did
3.4 people were not missing it was only Marneto becuase he didnt know it was at 11am and he went to sleep at 6am
Some really outstanding points. The crowding around bracket areas has been an issue for some time now. It makes it tough for people to hear their names, get situated, and we even had times where people would walk infront of games being played. I think this man’s ideas would make EVO that much better for next year.
Emphasis, folks. ST brings in good enough numbers to stay. But then again, it’s usually FlashMetroid that says shit about ST. Funny that no one plays ST, yet Japan still runs X-Mania and various tournies for it.
It also has it’s addition of players every year. Who the fuck saw Afrolegends making it to top 8? And mind you, he just recently picked up the game like, last year. And finals is ALWAYS fun to watch(Choi vs. Daigo, anyone?).
I really don’t see the line-up changing drastically for next year. I mean, what do we have coming out on console? SC4? That’s it. Arcana Heart would be a great addition, but trag stands by his point and I respect it. And since most of the community is acting ignorant about the game(see: FlashMetroid’s sig), it really has no chance. But whatever, the most the Arcana community can do is hold a side tourney and hopefully convince trag at next year’s EVO.
Oh, and just in case some of you don’t know: that’s the latest trend in fighters in Japan. Get used to it because that’s ALL there is right now. We should be glad we have fighters coming out.
Why are you talking about japan when were in america…if you wanna talk about japan…GG is the #1 game there and Marvel is the worst
Also I like the way you point out my sig to support your point…actually I plan on playing arcana heart seriously since that game is too serious my sig is still funny regardless but nice try
