Fanatiq beat Smooth 5 - 0. I don’t think he played Yipes on MM.
No final results yet.
Or it’s in the Evo Champ series forum…
final results for what, Kenny? Most of the results can be found in the first post of this thread.
Kenny tell your friends to go to crossroads wednesday
Tidbits:
fanatiq played yipes on a stick not pad in the top 8 to prove he could play on stick. i don’t know if he was still one-button dashing, though
ruin nearly broke his hand after losing to Random MSP. we like ruin, but know how that goes.
yipes had to be carried off the stage after he won because he fucked up his leg really badly falling after jumping up and down after erik won vs chris s
um. i think that’s all for now? i have the brackets and so will have data about tao and jjj and moe and etc
Way to go Yipes! How accident-prone can one be?
It was pretty hilarious/awesome. Yipes is just a great guy. It really looked like a war film after the grand finals - my camera was far away so I couldn’t tape it,sorry. Hopefully someone caught that.
Only think I did’nt like about evo this year was that 3rd Strike was 1 game in the simi’s. So many ppl got to top 8 that should’nt of been there cuz of the randomness of 1 game. As a result the top 8 this year was the slopiest play i’ve ever seen at top 8 at evo, with the exception of Nuki and Tokido. If they would have ditched smash brothers, which almost no one on srk cares about, they would have had to to do 2 outa 3 games like everyone would expect from at tourny of this calibur.
It’s a balanced game. The top placings used to be dominated by marth/sheik/falco/fox but everyone is mastering these mid/low tiered characters and they are showing up more and more in the top spots.
And I’m just curious as to how many people were at EVO world and how many registered for each game. Is that info even out there?
yeah, fanatiq beat erik (smooth viper), not yipes.
fanatiq also got beat by nelson (remix1213), so don’t put him on such a high pedestal there mister megaman ds
It’s very hard to get that information because of the way we do emergency registartion. Look for changes next year…
I can say that 3s has the most registrations, followed by smash, mvc2, cvs2, and the rest (in roughly that order) with vf5 bringing up the rear way behind.
Ponder, any chance of getting the 64 man ST bracket posted? Also, do you have the total number of ST entrants?
NW players, I wrote part 1 of an evo report on my blog (see sig). I’m sure there are other players writing reports too, it would be cool to start a thread somewhere that consolidates links to all the evo reports!
I’d recommend SBC for that. It’s basically become a web blog for NW ST players already.
3rd Strike
Best of 1 3rd strike was tough. I wasn’t warmed or in the right mind set for my first match and I lost to a scrubby Ken player. At this point I was really worried that I wasn’t going to qualify which would have broken my heart, but I went into beast mode and tore through the loser’s bracket. I beat a Yun player who talks himself up a lot on SRK to qualify for semis, so I was really happy.
I fought Hsien Chang first round in the semifinals and choked, which was a little disappointing, but Hsien is the strongest Yun in US so it’s all good. I beat a Chun and a Hugo in the loser’s bracket before I faced and lost to KSK. I think if I knew that matchup better I would have won. I got hit by a few things I didn’t even know I should look out for. I made top 32, an improvement over top 64 last year. Top 32 seems like a very respectable result considering the number of skilled players this year. I’m going to train very hard this year and I expect to make top 8 at next Evo.
CvS2
I suck
ST
I’m fucking savage at ST. I don’t think anyone expected me to do as well as I did, but after being eliminated from 3rd Strike I was hella relaxed and didn’t really care so I counter picked and played really cheap in ST and tore up my bracket to qualify. I went 2 and out in the semis to a Claw and a Chun.
Nate’s a beast.
Guilty Gear
I raped everyone. I think my team got top 32 or top 24.
ST was tough. I lost to a claw. Bunch of Ryu’s in the tourney, I need to study some Valle mexi ryu tactics. I look forward to the dvd.
In marvel my first opponent was Combofiend and he wins, although I did show heart. I beat two peeps in a row and then lost to some mexican playing on pad. Shit, at least I won at something using Colossus/Cable/Sent. I was on a fucking mission to rape with Colossus and I managed to do it for a bit.
3s pisses me off, but I play Hugo so that comes with the territory. No 2/3 is bullshit.
While I did not advance in Cvs2, I did not get raped at all and did give my opponents lots of trouble. I find this hillarious because I played Iori/blanka/Ryu and only practiced it for a day. While I hate the game, I can say that playing it in “tourney mode” was lots of fun.
It was fucking intense and I will do it again next year.
Much respect to to all the Seattle and Portland peeps for representing the Northwest Coast.
Way to hold it down for the NW, Pablo. How was Vegas?
This thread, despite only being 3 days old, had over 3000 views, making it top 10 all time among NW threads. Unfortunately I was too late to prevent the neg rep =(.
I’m hoping that all the semi-brackets will get posted and then the results on all threads will probably be edited again to point there.
He thought scruubishly and did not play to win, and also didn’t prove a thing. He should’ve stickied to what was working. Probably would lose too - it’s yipes - but it would be a smarter way of playing.
Fanatiq played by the rules. Evo staff should study this carefully and take shortcuts ouit next year, agreeing with every other tourney and top player everIMO.
You owe me a rematch, you beat me 2-1 last time and the third and final game came down to the last round which was hella close.
Speaking of, I am about to start a new thread to try to get some Seattle players to take a trip to Portland since you guys have came up more than we’ve gone down.
ATTN PORTLAND ST PLAYERS: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?p=4232022#post4232022
I did better than i think anyone expected, though i was in the “makoto pool of hell” we had about 8 makoto players which was pretty nasty imo but oh well i won my first match against a makoto player lost second to a yun a D-pad  then beat the SAME makoto player in the losers woot. then i beat a ken player, then during final round of match vs makoto mike my ball top spun off making me pay more attention to the fact that my T5 stick is falling apart then the match he basically got free combo on me and won (then went on to finals which between you and me is still a mystery)
