Thoughts on that match: he opens dumb - you can actually counter into snapback when they glitch dashback. This is the biggest reason why I like s.LP better than s.LK. The guy he’s playing against seems a little dumb, but Ranma is clearly showing why he’s good with that team. Should probably have Tornado Hold’d Cyke at 93 seconds. At 83 seconds, slide Tron Tornado Hold would have killed Cyke. Should have slid against Cable when he cold swapped in - Tron will OTG it and let you relaunch most of the time. Very well played match for Ranma.
game 2: masterful opening. Why isn’t Spiral super-jumping? That’s dumb. The guy seems clearly flustered and just keeps making mistakes. I probably need to teach Ranma guard cancel Hyper Megaman as the assist saver. I don’t know if we’ve talked about that? Probably - he likes charged buster more. We both play it pretty differently, which makes it fun.
It’s a pretty good match for Ranma (both are very hard match-ups), but he’s actually way better than that. I have a S I C K video of him from the team tournament I’ll put up.
After playing you and others playing Megaman/cable/tron, I’ve kinda wondered… does the team really win by exploiting the opponent’s lack of knowledge of that team? It seems like when I play you, I’m sure I have a free character, but you pull another trick out that just doesn’t seem like it should work. I suppose this is better suited for the Constructive Criticism thread, or THEE Seattle Marvel Thread.
Naw, man. It’s cool. I got neg repped for INCLUDING Tekken results. Whoever did that is my hero. In all honesty, MvC2 is the shit, and all other games are temporary diversions. So I’m inclined to agree with that guy. Results for other games were included out of consideration for the one or two locals that might care. Eff Tekken! Take that, Josh Ray!
For some reason, this reminds me of when umbrellastyle plays Marvel, SF1, or any other game where he has no idea what he’s doing. When he’s just mashing, Alex sounds like the soundtrack to a redneck porno. He’ll rotate for repeated 360s, mash all buttons, and say, “oh yeah, YEEEE-ah, uh.”
Added some more info to the first post in the thread. Also added some links to Preppy’s threads featuring top 64 placement for various games. Wish I had more details on some of the MvC2 money matches. If anyone posts relevant Marvel matches in this thread, or MM featuring NW players, I’ll add it to the first post. If there’s a thread dedicated to EVO MM results (there was one listing projected matches beforehand but didn’t have results), point me to it and I’ll link it.
Any Marvel MM featuring noteable players would interest me. Gimmick matches also interest me. For example, if JWong faced off against Vegita-X in a mirror match, I’d like to know the results. The only non-Marvel MM that I’m interested in would be that one where some American challenged Gian to a new versus old Dhalsim fight in ST. But I guess I’d also like to hear about how NW players did in general. I wanna know what happened with the MMs that Alex and Pablo had lined up. Did you win against Gian, Alex? Teach that Jap a thing or two about how to play ST.:china:
Added more links in the first post of this thread to other threads about top 64 in various games. If people include more details when reporting Marvel and ST MMs (such as the final score and how much money was on the line), I’ll add them to the first post. I’ll probably also require some verification from a trusted source (someone notable like Preppy) before I add any info though.
Zach can probably attest to this more since he’s been to the WC and EC more than I have, but in the SW and MW regions its been about the same. The first time you play somebody you can tell if they have experience against that character vs somebody who plays that team. Basic/intermediate MM players simply spam fierces all day spam assists, don’t care about spacing etc. Hence the basic counter teams are Cable/Sent/XX or Spiral/Cable/Sent. Now if the player has experience against a player who actually knows Megaman has other moves besides fierce punch, then he just tries to either run or RTSD. Me and Zach have our own little tricks here and there that we’ve tried to share with each other since '05 when he came down for Showdown, but at the heart of it all, it is a gimmick character on a mostly gimmick team. It just so happens that I find it to be a really fun and amuzing gimmick team. I’ve been playing MM since MvC1 so I’m really used to his moves and movement, he also plays much differently but he’s actually turned out to be one of my better characters in tournament play sadly.
So short story long, yes, exploiting the opponents lack of knowledge is what wins it easily, but against better opponents you have to use tricks and gimmicks. K, I’m rambling too much in an area I shouldn’t be in, but I hope this helped a little.
Pablo and umbrellastyle are both from the greater Seattle area, both have played 3s at points in their lives, and both attended Evo. I’m not sure how well they take being called 3s players though. I’m also not sure whether Pablo entered 3s. I believe he entered the MvC2, ST, and CvS2 tournaments in Vegas. Most of the Portland 3s players went to Evo.
Christ do you have to be a whiny bitch in EVERY post? You’re possibly the most annoying fuck on this entire forum, you have fucking panic attacks over someones phrasing about how they dont like a videogame OVER THE INTERNET!!?? Could you just “fucking get over” being a vagina? Or better yet “fucking get over” a manhole as a car is driving over it.
