no one would waste his/her time on you son, cuz you dont understand what a fighting game is, and what is involved in every aspect that makes every game unique
Playcircus leave srk and never come back. your opinions are hot garbage, and no skill building? that made me lol
im begining to think that he refers to build the skills of the char, not the skills of the player, wich is pretty dumb
Here are a few important points that need to be addressed:
-
I love pancakes, maybe even more than waffles, but they’re both so damned good it’s hard to be sure.
-
“Hotcakes” is a good name but “flapjacks” is a bad name.
-
I’m going to pour maple syrup into my leg hair and then ask someone to lick it off while I fart.
skill of character is still a dumb idea. he basically wants an super rpg street fighter hd remix the 3rd edition
I don’t want a remix, I want a fighting game with RPG elements, like choice, is Fight Night an RPG hybrid because I can build my character’s skill? No. Madden? Def Jam?
then play a naurato and dbz fighting game
Aaaaaaaaaaand WHERE is this game in the competitive scene?
No where, gone, forgotten… Good work convincing us that the games we play in tournaments, that have withstood the test of time, are wrong for the genre by citing a game that has had absolutely zero competitive play.
Yeah, we’d so much rather spend time before tourneys level grinding against the CPU, than practicing matches with our friends.
See, I think this points need to be addressed as it explains the reasons why Playcircus is correct in wanting skill building in his fighting games. You see, fighting games are like pancakes. By themselves, they are tasty treats. Sure, new pancakes are coming out with blueberries, strawberries, cinnamon, or my personal favorite cinnamon & apple, just like we get different fighting games. Sure, they are all different but still pancakes. What the man is asking for is being able to put syrup on his pancakes.
While the pancake is awesome in and of itself, the syrup just adds that extra customization that moves it into a top tier breakfast item. But there is more to this, you can add eggs to it and and steaks and end up with more than what would you get. Pancakes and porkchops are godly, what would waffles be without chicken? That is all the man is asking for, just being able to have some sausage between his 'cakes.
All in all, I think we can all agree that farting is fun, getting licked is better and Chun-li, like Playcircus has suggested, should be covered in syrup (or maybe honey and/or whip cream).
If we’re on breakfast, fuck it.

See, the problem is that you guys play Street Fighter solely or tournaments and competition with other players, but that is only one small aspect of fighting games, of video games in general, the purpose of video games is not so you can play against other players, some people play them for that reason, but most people don’t, they are for entertainment
Anything can be enjoyable for that reason, people probably get together and see who can get the highest score on Contra, some people get together and see who can play rock paper scissors the best, you’re just taking something and making it work a certain way, a way that it wasn’t really made for
I don’t even like playing online games because some kid in Korea is going to master every exploit and I really don’t find it enjoyable trying to compete with that
I don’t like chess, I don’t like getting high scores, I don’t like trying to master exploits, I like one on one fighting games and kung fu, my love of that has nothing to do with juggling, high scores, and mechanical gameplay, and judging by the fact that more people enjoy Fight Night over Super Punchout, and Madden over NFL Blitz, I would say most people agree with me.
New sig. Thanks.
let me ask you something, what is more entertaining, playing the game by yourself against a dumb cpu, or playing the game with other people, see, even if you dont play the fucking game for competitive reasons, you cant come here, and tell us that a game genere designed mainly for playing with other human being are wrong, and that they need to do the game in your way because you suddenly got the stupid idea that you are right and, all the communities around the world that play the genere are wrong, a good advice, leave the basement of your momma and try to find some real friends to play the game, cuz im begining to think, that the only social interaction that you have is with chars in the games that you play.
and btw, you are wrong, here ther are like 60000 people who will tell you that fg are fine like they are now, so STFU
edit
one thing that i forgot to tell you, only because you dont live near to an arcade that doesnt make an excuse to not understand that all of this games were, and are still designed for arcade machines
Playcircus, like everyone said, all those features you mentioned have been done.
Based on those features, I found some games that’d be right up your alley. : D

Actually the thing is that like you, I play fighting games mostly by myself. The problem is that you don’t appreciate the difference between them. If you want a fighting game that has a rewarding single player, play Soul Edge/Soul Calibur 2,3 and go on in story mode down multiple paths. You get to unlock bunch of different weapons that have different abilities which you can coordinate to match your play style. At the same time you get to experience a bunch of crazy stories for you to enjoy by yourself. Shit, Dynasty Warriors seems tailor-fit for what you want out of the experience.
Fighting games need less shit to make characters unbalanced out of proportion just because you jerked off playing the game and now your character can do half a life bar of damage by jabbing. Seriously your idea is dumb. Hearing you talk about fighting games is like listening to Johnny Rebel to find out about black people; except Johnny Rebel is funnier.
Also, Fruit loops > *
When you play Grand Theft Auto, any RPG, or Mario you are not expected to compete against other people, this concept may sound crazy to you guys, but most video games aren’t work, they’re entertainment, it’s not a contest, it’s an experience
I like to play season mode of Madden because it’s like playing through a season of football, it’s fun, it’s rewarding, and it’s entertaining, now if I just wanted to kick my friend’s ass in one game then I can do that too, if I want to bring it online to challenge people that’s also a possibility, but if I love the game of football, then I probably enjoy season mode as much as I enjoy playing against my friends
I love kung fu, I love fighting games, and I love originality, that doesn’t mean I want to play against some Korean kid who mastered all the exploits, it means I want to sit down and enjoy the things I love, same reason people play season mode in Madden
It really is no fun when people use a video game as work to master all the exploits just so they can be better than someone else, they don’t really want to use that character, but he is the best so there is no reason to be anyone else, that’s a problem with the Street Fighter formula, it’s mechanical and restrictive
Now let’s imagine there is a game where anybody can beat anybody at anytime, you don’t have to wear down a health meter with long memorized combinations, imagine it’s like Bushido Blade and one wrong move can end the fight in an instant, a novice player can swing around and get lucky, a weak character can use strategy to choose the right moment to strike and beat the strongest character
Wouldn’t all that stuff make for much more exciting gameplay? It’s not about how well you can press buttons, it’s about thinking, the buttons are the easy part and the strategy is the hard part, wouldn’t you like to try a game like that at least once?
Hokuto no Ken…
I think what really needs to be discussed here is if there’s a clear winner between apple juice and orange juice.
I’m going to do something I haven’t done often here: post a reply. Usually I lurk the boards hoovering up info mainly because a good number of SRKers react like… well this… whenever someone attempts to offer alternative insight into the genre.
Some of your ideas are good - while others don’t seem to accomplish much.
In regards to leveling and increasing stats: I think it’s safe to say that’s an all around bad idea. There are numerous problems in regards to balance that levels would create and to be honest XP in RPGs are simply designed to mimic getting better at the game (since how much better can you get at selecting the word “Fight”?) In fighting games, experience comes from actually playing it and by playing it you’re going to get better naturally - there’s no need to obfuscate the system by adding an additional layer on top of it.
When it comes to simplifying gameplay mechanics I actually agree with you. I’m not saying that all fighting games need to abandon their 11 thumbs requirement - I hear SFIV is doing pretty well - but there’s room for other games to tackle combat in ways that are either a) innovative or b) downright bizarre. I liked Bushido Blade too and thought that its fighting system was superb. Similarly I enjoy Smash’s pick up and play mechanics and like the fact that underneath there is still some meat to play with. Just because fighting doesn’t require 8 QCs and a headstand to pull off a fireball doesn’t mean that it’s bad - or amateurish. Then again, you can have a “standard” fighting system that does the same thing. Virtua Fighter relies less on obscure button combinations and more on knowledge of the system.
Unfortunately the fighting game genre (like SRPGs and Sports games) is a victim of its fanbase. Places like SRK which function as hubs for the genre (sport?) are deathly afraid of new ideas and resent new members. It’s understandable I suppose - after spending a decade or more learning how fighting games “work” anyone’s going to balk at the massive shift that something like Smash, or Bushido Blade, or Powerstone brings. Why those two styles can’t co-exist (I love VF, CvS, AND Smash) I’ll never understand - but thinking about new (and crazy) ways of doing fighting games is the one thing guaranteed to keep the genre alive.
For the rest of the players that just insulted him for posting his thoughts a big thank you. You’re the reason why I can’t find ANYONE to play a fighting game with anymore. You make this hobby so brutally elitist and unwelcoming that you are the single biggest enemy to it. Maybe one day real innovation and experimentation can occur in fighting games - but I have the feeling that will happen only after you all have been driven forcefully into obscurity.
Then we can start anew and people will see why 2D fighting games are still awesome.
Dude, the thing about SRK is that it isn’t a journal for fighting game developers. As such, ideas on what to do in order to improve a game is fun to discuss but has no bearing on actually playing the game. Secondly this place for COMPETITIVE playing. You can come here and ask for help playing and improving but not with ideas that are on the same level as fan fiction.
If Playcircus made a fighting game and let SRK beta test for bugs, infinites and balancing, pretty sure it would be glad to help. But for the games that are out already, the focus of the forum is how to work with what you have, no keep yourself bottled up with what could have been or what could be. The first has no real bearing on how to properly rush down; the second only comes into play if the manufacturers want suggestions on how to improve a title. This place isn’t elitist, it just has a bunch of people asking the wrong question.
You don’t go to a mechanic asking him how to drift properly; you ask the drift racer how to do that shit.
Orange juice > Apple Juice for breakfast. Fruit Punch gatorade & powerade > all other flavors.
