This topic should be an “Addition to the” or “I have an idea for a” Fighting Game genre rather than an “Evolution of”. That said, I would love a next gen incarnation of Bushido Blade. There’s few “realistic” fighting games like Boxing or Pro Wrestling games. But I want SWORDS!
Listen, the whole Street fighter formula is based on arcade machines, It was the whole market back in those days, they didn’t have consoles that were better, therefore the whole game was made for people who play in arcades
We have Xbox 360s, PS3s, Wiis, and a bunch of handheld stuff now, why would you try to fit a square peg in a round hole by putting arcadey mechanics on a console? That doesn’t make any sense, you can’t play Grand Theft Auto on an arcade and you can’t play Street Fighter on a console
I use to love going to arcades and playing my favorite fighting games, but I have no reason for that now, there is online play, I can own the game, and I don’t have to go to the bummy place on the corner where everything is sticky
You guys have obviously never played Def Jam: Fight for NY, it was one of the most successful games on the original Xbox, everybody loved it, it was a consolized fighting game
Like I said, I’m sorry for stirring up the bee hive, you guys play fighting games for competition and I play them because I love fighting games, the problem is that I am the biggest Kung Fu fan, I like to design my own fighting game characters, I love one on one combat, I love the style, but I don’t like arcadey games on consoles, so I guess we are just going to have to disagree, thanks for reading my ideas, I will continue to spread them to help make fighting games better for me.
what other choice is there in america? arcades are dying here dude. unless you are luckly enough to live in a nice city then you have to stick to console.
On the real…that is where I stopped. If you don’t play against other people, then I don’t think you understand the FG community in general. So I think you came here just to mess with the killer bees…like on that show, Jackass.
Fighting games shouldn’t adapt to your ideas…you should be adapting to them.
Sorry, OP, but the fighting genre is fine as is, thank you very much. Besides, almost all the brilliantly innovative ideas that you’ve said has been done in games throughout the years. Have you been paying attention? Or are you just trolling for shits and giggles?
You know when I read the name of this thread I was actually genuinely excited to come in here and read because I thought this would be another oppotunity to discuss interesting yet practical ideas that could be used to make fighting games better…
Sadly I was mistaken.
Thanks TC. This list will be very helpful in illustrating to my fellow future development team buddies what to run screaming from when making our new fighting game…
Let’s see, fighting games have been in decline since their peak in the 90’s, that may be fine for you guys who actually want to force fighting games to be a niche market, but it’s not good for the genre, Street Fighter 4 is the biggest fighting game since Mortal Kombat made a disappointing leap to current gen consoles, exciting titles have been few and far between
Great games like Virtua Fighter 4 got overlooked because nobody wants to play Street Fighter 2 anymore, why should I even play DOA, Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat, or any of these other Street Fighter clones, it’s the same game with different characters, it’s a formula that is tired, that was never meant for consoles, and is draining the life out of fighting games, then we got you guys, Capcom, and Namco resisting change
Are we just going to keep playing Street Fighter 2 with better graphics until the end of time? That’s selling fighting games short, I love them too much to hold them back.
Soul Calibur a SF clone ?
Are you mad ? It plays nothing like Street Fighter (and while i do enjoy a game of SC, i enjoy SF way way more…).
Stick to whatever games you like, but don’t post such nonsense on a board where almost every user LIKES 2D fighting games…
