NKI: I see your point, for the condensed numbers, but you really should have two separate tourneys. One for the argument of best players, and one for argument of new school vs old school…
Best players in the USA as one, get the top 16 overall best ST players in ONE tournament, (historically) and the other tournament have the best 8 current new school and OLD school players…you can have alternates in case of anything, and very, VERY few people would make both tournaments sans Watson, Choi, Valle, Cole…
Btw i was editing my last post with the specifics of both tournaments, not sure if you saw that or the original post NKI.
When it’s appropriate, if i’m having a big open tournament, then sure the more the better. If specific people have a problem between each other, then there is no reason to involve 25 other people. But since we involved all those people in this thread, we mightaswell do something cool with it, hence the 2nd event.
If I’m not mistaken, I think that’s what CigarBoB was planning on doing with his 32-man invitational, and this RR tourney can serve as the Old School vs. New School tourney.
FMJ - I had missed your edits, so thanks for the heads-up. I like the way you think. After considering that CigarBob will also be throwing his invitational, I’m starting to lean more towards your idea of a 5-on-5. Because CigarBob’s tourney will use brackets, it would be much more efficient to have that be the bigger tourney, and keep this one limited to the people directly involved. We still need to decide on the exact team members, though.
For Team Dinosaur, I think it should be Watson, Choi, Cole, Valle, and one other person to be determined (maybe just have a play-off to determine the 5th spot).
For Team Flukesters, I think it should be last year’s “random” top 8 finalists (DSP, CHAMPbell, myself, and Peter H). That leaves one spot open. I could see giving it to Justin Wong, 'cause he got 4th place at Evo 2004 (which was on DC, and everyone called a fluke on that), but again, we may just have a play-off for the 5th spot.
Listen, I’m so ridiculously confused about the 10 ST tournaments that are going to happen at EVO, I’m not sure what anybody is even talking about anymore. Just please give me a chance to enter each one…be it round robin, teams, singles, whatever…and I promise you I’ll do my best. I’m going to EVO pretty much exclusively for ST, and with my placing last year, I’d like to at least participate in all the events, even if there is a chance I might get owned up.
I agree on both accounts. Afro definatly deserves a spot if you decide to do 5v5. JSJ if he shows should be on team OG as well.
Phil is confused? Nah I didn’t see that one coming.
[Sarcasim=CigarBoB]Phil im still thinking about letting you in my tournies. I know you are the National Champ and all but I think you may be a bit too good and would just mop every one up. And that just wouldn’t be fun.[/Sarcasim]
Here is the breakdown of BYOC ST tournies on my cabs.
32 Man Invitational 2/3 games 3/5 for Finals only.
ST 3v3 32 Team Max. I think we will hit 20 teams. I may drop it down to 2v2 and do match play. So p1 with play p1 and p2 with play p2. If there is a tie then the two winners will play for the win.
ST 3v3 team tournaments. The same thing as last year. Possable cap at 16 teams.
NKI’s Round Robin of DOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!
Or what ever he is thinking of doing.
[My opinion=CigarBoB] Keep it a round Robin. Making another Team Tourny would just be stupid. Plus the only reason i am making my 32man an invitational is so i can limit who enters. I only want quality players.[/My opinion]
Heck Valle Watson Choi on a team and DSP NKI BuckTizzel on another team solves the OG vs NKOTB. But i dont know if you want to be teamed with DSP i hear he smells like week old hamburger. And he likes to eat babies to get ready for a match. But that is just a rumor. I hope.
Thats about it.
NKI You are welcome to use another cabinet for the RR if its free and if we have enough ST boards. Im planing on bringing 2 sf2x boards. If you want to locate 2 St boards you are more then welcome to use the second cab when you have another set of ppl that can play.
Now its a 5 on 5 new vs old? As well as Cigarbobs 32 invitational? AAAAAND EVO’s singles? Lot of ST going on lol
If JSJ cant make it, Graham Wolfe for final OG spot. DONE DEAL!
Why dont these freakin New skool bastards attend other tourneys so we can see how consistant they are. OG are always seen entering ST tourneys all over here and there, but yet you never hear of any of the new skool entering shit (besides DSP but the results are always the same =P hehe) Whens the last tourney u entered NKI? EVO? Buk is random, but he is the only new school that has placed high pretty consistantly. Evo was Afrolegends FIRST tourney, so no worries. DSP travels to everything but also has an excuse for everything.
Guess we gotta wait til EVO to see all the New school play again. Give them time to download more Jap videos and study up =D lol
Eh, i dont give a shit who is in the tourney, just hurry and organize the mutha fucka and lets be done with this until EVO.
J-Cole
PS: heh yeah dont forget about that Honda guy, he did alright and is prob playing on xbox live practicin right now.
Lol I’ll play anyone in the USA for the 5th spot if you want me to, they beat me they can have it im already that confident and i havent even come out of my cave yet.
The 5th dinosaur has to be Wilson, he lost to DSP last year. Also I thought afrolegends was pretty solid as the other flukester
so it makes the teams:
Valle/Choi/Watson/Cole/Wilson
vs.
NKI/Buk/DSP/Peter H/Afrolegend
Bob would you be willing to restrict your invitational to US players, and then just use those results to set up a US vs the World 5on5? And NKI would you run the 2nd 5on5 on your setup since the first one is only 25 matches now?
If so then it’s all settled and i’ll make a new thread or a webpage or something to summarize all the events for people.
Damn. Wish there was a way I could get in on all this action. I had to be a freaking Cammy user. And I seriously doubt I could squeeze my way into CigarBob’s 32-man invitational, given that I have no track record at all with ST. sigh
Win a tourney with me choi watts cole shirts in it…and you will get respect…and i dont mean place 2nd or 3rd…i mean win…
oh and another thing…
dont you recall making noise pre-ts6 about us OG players should retire if you beat any of us??
all i hear is you bitching when you lose…typical…i know you’re hungry but bro…get a hold of yourself…
i know my place in ST…i’ve won a few tourneys with big names in it…win some lose some…take your loss like a man and try again next time…
one last thing…
you got smoked by my boy bryan tyson’s guile…he simply outplayed you…walking into 5 flash kicks in a row( maybe less) just doesnt cut it as a top player…LOL
bryan tyson = ryuwinz…one of texas’ finest in pre RC cvs2 and a3 days with alex navarro…props to him
Jason Nelson and Apoc deserve an invite. Word on the street is they are gonna son yall like a fetus. It’s about time they come out of hiding anyway.
I also suggest that players limit their character choices in any 5 on 5. Valle and Choi both play O.Sagat when it’s time to get serious. 2 out of 5 will be Sagat? I agree that one could play as a shoto but that would also be a handicap since they defeat serious opponents with Sagat.
Does this tourney still exist, or did it transform into the 32-man invitational. You mentioned the 32 man way before this post, so i assumed that they were seperate when i heard this. Doesn’t matter to me, just trying to clear it up, the question being “excatly what arcade ST will be present at EVO”, not nessecarily who’s running what. The rest is pretty clear: 1) 32 man invitational, 2) 5on5 fluke/wegotrobbed battle, 3) ST 3v3, is there a 4) ST open singles, or is that idea dead now.
I suggested modifying the 32 man under the assumption that there was already an entirely seperate open arcade ST tourney (i’m not counting AE as ST for the purpose of this discussion).
