Evo Special Event #1 SF4 5on5

oh damn, i forgot all about that hk crossup on wakeup. yea that was sick. i didn’t know about the specific timing stuff, but i figure hey, its sakura she has a lot of mixup stuff. i think a lot of people were amazed by the reset/mixups because they probably haven’t seen sakura action. anyway, i also liked those c.mk xx DP for footsies!

I have to say I’m disappointed with how the southeast team was represented. Albeit somewhat difficult to communicate with others and to judge who should truly be on the team, it seemed to me that it didn’t matter that the best players from the southeast be on the team in the first place. It was more about who was who’s friend and that’s all there was to it.

I mean… please by all means, prove my point of view wrong but this is what happened to me:

I saw the 5v5 thread on srk and that people were wanting to see me on the southeast team. Honestly, me and my buddies didn’t feel like things were being done right and that everybody was going to get a fair chance to have a spot – so ultimately we were indifferent about the whole thing. That’s not to say that we weren’t willing to play and show people what’s up with NC and the southeast as a whole, cause really that’s all we ever wanted to do. But anyway, Friday at Evo I was told to go see Trent because I was supposed to get a spot. Then later one of the guys on the team came up to me while I was playing 3rd strike and asked me if I wanted to be on the team, and I was all for it. Also it’s important to note that later that day I was asked to be on the wildcard team, but I refused because I was under the impression I was on team southeast. So come tournament time when I came up to the stage thinking I’m 'bout to show people what’s up – I get this shady look from certain people on the southeast team. Like, really? I knew something was up.

So the guy tells me “Sorry man I couldn’t find you and I had to make a list.” Are you kidding me? The same guy saw me earlier where I agreed to play on the team. This wasn’t some kind of accident or unfortunate turn of events. Nevermind my skill as a player, yall knew I was down to play but you changed your minds after the fact for whatever reason. I could have just been on the wildcard team then have to go through some bullshit just to play.

Straight up, what probably happened is they saw PR balrog play and replaced me with him without saying anything. PR balrog is damn good and he definitely deserved to be on the team. But to take me off like that after asking me and to give me some bullshit excuse after the fact was just plain dumb. Especially when other spots on the team were more questionable than mine. But then again, I feel like my spot wasn’t politically reserved, so my skill level and dedication didn’t matter to begin with.

The only reason I ended up on the team is because FlashMetroid saw the bullshit and gave up his spot for me. In all honesty, when I heard I was going back on the team the first thing that came to my mind was “how can I be the biggest dick while I’m playing?”, because it pissed me off that it went to that much of an extent. Obviously I was wanted on the team on all sorts of angles, but it took another player, who deserved to be on the team, to sacrifice his spot just so I can play. Flash did an honorable thing to give the people what they wanted (me on the team), but that’s fucking whack for things to have to turn out that way.

It’s so stupid that he would have to give up his spot for me anyway, because losing him for me doesn’t benefit the team much at all. That’s the big problem really. The southeast team wasn’t geared towards winning and putting the best players from the south up there, rather it was geared towards just getting people on the screen. Even myself in the end, I wasn’t on the team so much based on my skill as a player, but because people wanted to see me as a Gen player up there. That concept is so disappointing to me when he have other talented players that deserve to be there as well. The whole thing just wasn’t about representing the south to its fullest potential.

But like I said, please prove me wrong. All I ever wanted was for people to realize that NC and the south know what’s up with these games.

I’ll be even more honest, those other two guys on the team (the ryu and gief player)… I don’t feel they had any business up there. Nestor has a good sagat, but Cajunstrike definitely contends with his Sagat. Cajunstrike has beaten me more than I have beaten him in tournament, but he wasn’t even considered to be up there

Next year Evo there definitely needs to be more communication if we want to represent to our fullest potential at Evo2kX. We could do something at Final Round or something. Whatever it is, just let it be done right.

not reading all that :smokin:

Ahh… so that’s why Flash wasn’t up there. I thought he was on the team but just brushed it off as, “eh, I was probably just seeing the suggestions people made…”

That really does suck. It’s unfortunate that that kind of stuff has to happen. However, as a whole, the event was pretty exciting. Aside from the team drama and what not, it went well IMO. Maybe next time these team inconsistencies can be ironed out so stuff like this doesn’t happen again.

yo did you go to Evo? I thought I saw your name on the Evo listing…

haha I still owe you a 3rd strike rematch. You owned my ass that one Final Round tourny

I was wondering why Flash wasn’t on the SE 5v5 team… now I know.

Yeah definitely can’t sleep on Cajunstrike. He took Laugh out of SFIV at Evo. (Laugh won the SBO Korea qualifiers over Poongko)

You might want to edit your last quote Ness… YourMaster didn’t say that, it was JiBbo.

Just thought I’d let you know.

yeah, I went and I made it out of pools. Evo was serious. I really can’t think of anything else to say besides evo was serious this year.

Jibbo: Wow, I had no idea that stuff happened. That’s pretty wack. I finally read all that.:crybaby:

OMG YOU MADE IT OUT OF POOLS DAWG that means you’re pro now.

haha but seriously good shit mang.

billy wants that respect!

I wanna get in that vip party. Free food? Word!!! Fuck yo respect… I’m hungry

I think people should stop complaining or bragging on which coast is better or what region is better. We need to start looking at the whole picture and realize we need to come together as whole and start being better than japan. because in actual likely hood they far surpass us in skill and we need to help each other and get better. Because i rather see a 5 on 5 of USA vs Japan because that shit is the truth.

^ agreed, USA hasn’t done much yet vs. Japan, and I’m looking forward to the day we steal SBO’s trophy…

I can see that, but I’d much rather see a 3 on 3 US vs JP, best of 3 - rather than a 1 match 5 on 5.

Can you imagine the hype surrounding the battle to get on the US team. That would be far bigger then anything else we’ve seen during the East/West rivalry, especially if the US keep losing to Japan in tournament play. The only guarantee would be Justin Wong and maybe Ed Ma, but all the other spots are up for grabs and it would be chaos. And that’s great drama for us to read about or watch if they streamed some kind of qualifier.

As for the Japanese. I feel confident that Daigo and Nuki will be back next year since they are Evo vets. Hopefully they can drag 3 other guys with them, and hopefully those 3 will be big names so we don’t have to do research to find out who they are and who they main.

Mago should be considered an Evo vet too he’s been to evo just as long has Daigo so that should make 3

Kindevu could be another making it 4 with that sick ass rufus, and 1 more player could be up for grabs possibly Tokido since he plays too…thats a pretty strong 5 right there but as you said the problem would be for us to get our team together…theres SOOOO many players to mention that there would NEED to be a qualifier to see this happen

Good point, all those guys you mentioned have been to Evo before and are all top SF4 players. Although there are some other guys I’d like to see come, that would be a killer lineup for the Japanese team if it were those 5.

The US team on the other hand, like I said that would be mad hype. Throw the coast rivalries and everything out the window, it’d be about repping America. And may the best man win. The first US vs Japan 3rd Strike Exhibition was a massacre. A possible SF4 exhibition will be a completely different story, just how different is what we all want to see.

jibbo: yeah man, i heard about what happened from james chen. shit was pretty crazy. i gotta give props to flash for sacrificing himself to get you on the team. that’s really honorable.

all the stuff you said, clearly defines why i hate team tourneys. everyone thinks such and such deserves a spot. then someone else thinks other players deserve the spot, and so on and so forth. I hate the politics, favoritism, backstabbing, etc that goes down with it. I already said i wouldnt be a team captain again for a region. It’s too much bullshit. people’s egos clash and it gets ugly. That’s just some shit I don’t want. Plus I’m sure your region, as well as mine(southwest) was probably difficult to put together due to a lot of unknowns since the game is so new.

meh i hate teams =(

There was nothing shady that went on.
There were supposed to be qualifiers to determine the last spots, which would have avoided the drama. Everyone’s flight got in late and it just wasn’t possible, nothing to be done about that, just have to pick the best people.

I was told Jibbo was a pretty decent player and people really wanted to see a gen player compete, so i figured why not.
Eduardo, boxer from PR, turned out to be amazing. Jibbo’s out, Eduardo’s in.
There is absolutely nothing shady about this.
Jibbo, I apologize for not being able to find you earlier to let you know, but the tantrum you threw on stage was just ridiculous. You got replaced by a better player.
Man the fuck up and keep this shit in perspective. Without qualifiers no one “deserved” a spot, that most certainly includes you. I had to pick the best people available to the southeast.

You can say what you want about how Jebailey performed, but the simple truth is that hes done better in tournaments than you. This is all I was going by. Nestor has done better in tournaments than you, Eduardo has performed better in tournaments than you, I have done better and flash has done better than you.

I’m sorry if you’re feelings got hurt and that you felt the need to stomp your feet on stage. Flash probably gave up his spot so we wouldn’t find you in the Rio bathroom with slit wrists and a “Goodbye, Cruel World” suicide note. Seriously, that shit was out of control.

I’ll try to minimize my point of view so you dont rage out on a tangent.
There was no favoritism, no shadyness, no underhanded’ness. Lacking a qualifier, I just tried to pick the best people available. Eduardo was better.

Too much drama.

lol, the drama surrounding a 5v5 USA team vs Japan would probably make this website melt.

That being said, a 5v5 with the actual top 5 best US players vs japan would be hype as shit, assuming it wouldn’t turn into a blow out :\

The fact that JiBbo had to find out when he was already ON STAGE thinking he was on the team is the problem.

I have a feeling you didn’t try too hard to find him and tell him that he was replaced. I mean, even without trying, I saw him numerous times Friday and Saturday while wandering around the floor.

This whole issue could be avoided if you took the extra to actually look for JiBbo and let him know beforehand.
