Dan man, winning tournaments doesn’t mean anything for this.
I won every single Preppy ranbat in ST except one in the last 3 years, won NW champs, won Portland champs, took 2nd portland champs, and took 9th at Evo this year. And you know what? I don’t think I deserve a locked spot in the ST:HDR 5v5 (well when there was one lol). I’m prepared to fight my way for it and EARN it. Cause I know that players like BBH, Deezo, Axel, #1Geese, Rayblade, or ANY of these guys on SRK could win. Hell, maybe one of the marvel hotshots like Row or JMar will put their skills in ST and become awesome. Maybe some random ass GGPO player will come out of nowhere and rock us all (like ning, wtf happened to him anyways?). I could get my ass kicked out of the tournament by anyone. And believe me I take every tournament matchup seriously because I know that some random guy I’ve never even heard of could fuck me up. The only way I can earn a spot in a 5v5 is to fight for it. I don’t care what happened yesterday. All that matters is the day of the tournament.
Even a super well understood game like ST has a ton of variance. Players that suck one day can become really good all of a sudden. Hell, I was the worst fucking player in cali (the guy that lost to everyone) for YEARS. How can you take a game like SF4, which is barely understood, and think that anything from now means anything for future results? The early stages of the game are when there is the most moving around in player skill!
Wanting to have a locked in spot is a sign of weakness. It signals to others that you’re afraid that you might not get it if you have to fight for it. Well I understand that fear. I have it too. And that’s why I’m practicing to make sure I EARN it when the time comes. You should too.

just because at the beginning of this thread people are talking about locked spots to players who i have defeated in tourneys makes me a douche for asking for a locked spot? what does it say about you then?
if its only be decided from a round robin then fine, but remember what you guys said about PREVIOUSLY how cole and deezo are dominant in northwest thats why they are granted the spots. the argument is seriously flawed.

The Northwest is really Seattle and PDX, anything or any other city is really not a factor " minus the sub citiy's seattle and pdx ".

I heard Random Ass is Chile’s best Bison player for SFIV, but is moving to Seattle in May…Looks like I have some more stiff competition for the 5v5 tournament.
you know what’s sad raishinken? is that cole told paul to ask me if i’m interested in JOINING the team tournament to represent NW, so i was surprised to actually find out i have to PLAY to get in. either paul was being shitty at sending through messages or cole changed his mind when he read this about being not fair to others.

Even when the HDR 5v5 was originally announced, it was stated that Cole was going to have a tournament to decide on spots, nothing’s changed now that SFIV has replaced HDR so no Cole didn’t change his mind.

Seeing as how the end result is who DOES get to go to EVO, I would hope the only people participating are those who know for sure they can make it. Though it would be smart to have backups in case something happens.
Well Cole said he would be posting up a date for the tourney to decide the team members and that it would be on a date closer to EVO, so you just gotta wait and see.
