Evo North: The Midwest Championships THREAD

Right here, I can throw in a few bucks a night. Never seen you though what do you play?

Jose, what are you planning to do for now.

Yeah, or at least was when last I checked…but under bad management.

The less said about that place the better.

there were converters available at east.

Wavenet … and ppl complain about xbl lag. [They had one of those Ultimate MKIII Wavenet machines at North Pier.]

crap! my registration didn’t go through last night >__<

I’m freakin’ out
I know there’s another chance on Saturday to register, but I’m worried that there won’t be any spots left ya know?

anyone know why the evo2k site says the tourney starts on the 22nd when the emergency registration is on the 23rd?

I really want to compete in CVS2 this year

Fearless Hyena: As long as you are there on time, you can enter. Check the schedule on page 1.

friday is the “first day” but no official evo events start tell saturday

Hey yo, its me, its me, its RDG (RUSH DOWN GOD) VDO here, just wanna say what up Coley Cole, how you been bro? well if you need a place to crash for the weekend, then you can crash wit the Detroit crew if you like. Its about 6 of us in there so there still room. The choice is yours bro. Oh by the way Cole we are stayin @ the Marriott up the road from the arcade, not the Red Roof.

VDO

Hey guys just wondering if there’s gonna be a charge for people who just wanna watch the event. I got some friends who didn’t register but just want to watch the tournies and finals. Anyone know if there gonna be charged anything? Or only just charged the normal price to go into nickel city?

chickenbone: spectators cna watch. they just have to pay the nickel city cover charge. and they need to be respectful of players that need space

… HIP the one inside the mall? I didn’t see it before except last november when I was getting my tired fixed and super just tires across the street and browsed the ball. Though it did seem kinda lacking in the game selection department (recalls a few racing games, metal slug game and I think tekken 5…).

there was enchanted castle but now-a-days it has like no fighters… god I remember when Ed Boon came personally and set up MK3.

Great America still has a decent arcade selection, but paying GA entry prices to access it was horrible though.

UIC used to have a decent game room back in like 97, I don’t know what happened to it since.

Pretty much, its not longer a “cyberstation” but a different type of arcade. Its one of those redemption/ddr arcades where it doesnt really have anything for fighting game people. And if it did, it’d prolly be broken anyways cause bad arcades are always like that.

North pier is no more.
HIP arcade is no more.
Chicago Ridge, Randhurst, Hawthorne Mall, all no more. I hear diversions shut down, too.

All thats left IIRC:
Crappy Golf Mill arcade that gets ignored cause it sucks
Nickel City of course
Gameworks in Shaumburg thats overpriced
Dennis’s place near downtown that im not sure people really go to anymore.

Needless to say, NC is the only one worth going to.

My school’s lounge even has like, some random games, but nothing good. They have like, tekken 5, but got it way after console was already released instead of like, when it was in its prime. Thats like, IT…sadly…

And the Nickel City cover charge is the EVO cover? So i can’t just walk into the arcade, play on the non-evo cabinets, and catch a few games in the gameroom? Sorry, i’m not familiar with the gameroom layout and not many people have mentioned just spectating or just playing casuals.

Nickel City cover charge is $2

First of all welcome back ROB.

Second of all, seeyall this weekend. It’s gonna be fun.

Just a quick question about the Red Roof, when you get off of I-43, is the hotel left(towards nickels) or right when you get off the free way?

the problem with evo world is that school has already started up for me by that time so evo kind of conflicts with things since the tournament date has gotten later and later in august year by year. unorthodox gameplay? i just roll cancel too much and do goofy CC’s sometimes, lol. but good luck in ST at evo north and especially at evo world, i’ll be pulling for you man.

peace

PS- VDO, you better bring the pain with P-groove this year! make sure to use P-haohmaru and P-yama, they always give me the most trouble.

Rooms issue, transportation

Alright it is confirmed I will be there on Friday evening. I need someone who either wants to split a room or can let me crash and I just pay you something since I will bring my sleeping bag with me either way.

Also, is there public transportation that goes there from O’hare to Northbrook? If not, what is the cab fare if anyone knows?

Cab Far from O’Hare to the arcade is around $25-35 I think.

I don’t think because an arcade does not have any fighting games that it should be deemed “shitty.”

Namco has been taking out games that don’t make money from their arcades. Since there are such a small amount of fighting game fanatics, but tons of play for the casual guy (DDR), that is how a business is run these days. Nickel City is different because it has parties and really could slap any old games in there and they would do fine based on the way the place is set up.

The reason these places don’t have fighting games is because there is no scene, everyone went to console afterwards, and nobody steps up to the owner of a place with a group of tight knit people that WILL spend money.

I have a bunch of OG friends in Miami that run an arcade that used to have a ton of Midway/Rare test games and fighting games, and Namco refuses to put in other fighting games because they don’t generate the amount of revenue for space.

MVC2, 3s, CVS2, these games take LONG per quarter. Tekken, Soul Calibur, these games are short and sweet, generating a lot more money. CVS2 is one big waste of money and space unless you are charging 50 cents per play.

Shi-… are you coming? I thought you were still undecided.
