The thing is, almost all players that I’ve ever met, including everyone I’ve ever spoken to on this site prefers to use sticks, and every player I’ve met at a tourney has used a stick. Cabs have been the preference for 15+ years and continue to be, if they are possible to get. You say that it is a “change” from the norm, but the fact it, CONSOLES are a change from the norm.
Most people going use sticks. You make it sound like the majority of people on this site use pads, when that definitely isn’t the case. I’m sure a few do, but almost everyone uses a stick, and it’s always been like that.
king of bums: you need to realize, evo north is just a name. this tourney is still MWC (midwest championships). MWC has always been an arcade driven tournament. and tries to do so for as long as it possibly can. it has nothing to do with elitist bullshit, which is what it seems like to you. slapping on the evo north name and adding qualifying spots is a bonus. it sucks that you dont use a stick, and its unfortunate for you. but mwc is very well known as an arcade tourney, you should be lucky that even cvs2 is console.
and pad players are also in the minority in the community(capcom atleast). this should be more reason for you to learn a stick, this way, you can play in any situation and not limit yourself in times like this. it just makes more sense.
King of Bums: Also realize this from the flip side, imagine how hard it is for ARCADE players who played on sturdy arcade cabinets that don’t move for 16 years to having to sit down on the floor with a stick between their legs trying to play console. It’s not all about the “pad” person. Arcades may be disappearing, but since everyone on this site wants to be like Japan, ever notice they still SHUN console and prefer arcade tournaments?
This is the only tournament arcade players have left besides Final Round that is continuous. If anyone should be complaining it should be the usual suspects that hate console as always…you just have to look at it from all angles.
Can you guys not wait until the last minute to have pre-registration up for Midwest Championship? I’d rather pay now and get it over with; instead of waking up the day before the tourney and find out that I have to pay a $45 entry fee (or in my case not show up).

EDIT: I figure this has been raised somewhere on this site, but there’s a least one board there and if both players agree why can’t they use the board instead of PS2? [provided there aren’t too many ppl that would choose that option].
both players decide to play their set on arcade. arcade is slower.
1p wins and his next match or so also doesnt mind arcade. still wins,
now he plays someone who wants console, he plays console and misses everything cuz hes been playing his last 6 matches or so on a slower version, screwing his timing all up.
not a good idea to mix versions.
then you get people that see people choosing to play arcade, then everyone wants to play arcade for their sets. well only one board, now we go back to cvs2+arcade+1 board= VERY VERY LONG.
yes i know what the next quesiton/solution will be for that: “well if theres a current match playing on the cabinet. and the next set of players are waiting to play on the cabinet instead of playing console, instead of waiting, force them to use console”
now you run into pissing players off cuz now they arent getting the chance to play on the platform they want to play on but others got to. resulting in very unfair circumstances. im not ultimate authority, its dreamTR’s show, but as much as he loves arcade, im sure he would agree
Actually the only arcade game that they had at Final Round this year was ST. They canceled A3, and everything else was on console., 3s, CvS2, MvC2, etc… Well there was one supergun set up with some other arcade game (Arcana Hearts I think, but that was unoffical so doesn’t really count).
I’m starting to worry about the registration too… I mean, wouldn’t be better to get that $$ flowing sooner, and get a rough idea of how many ppl are showing? I’ve got one buddy talked into it (splitting the room) and I’m trying to get a couple more… but its hard to keep em excited if i cant get em signed up!
so is everybody gonna laugh at me because i bring my pad? cause i dont use sticks either but im not complaining or anything i just suck at sticks. i mean ive been trying to learn but i keep going back to my pad…damn it sounds like my ex-girlfriend situation hehehe
no one is gonna laugh, theres plenty of people that use pad. youre just the minority thats all. we all play the same game, theres no hate. juicyG, who is a local to evo north in chicago, him and his team made top 8 at evo finals in ggxx using a funky red ps2 pad. so yeah, you have nothing to worry about
well, figured this was as good a place as any, who wants to be on my GG team for MWC / evo? I don’t have a team, and will do everything in my power to carry w/e team I’m on… for perspectus, I live wit blacksnake and we go pretty 50 50 as of right now… just let a nigga know, and we’ll get shite crackin…
