Evo North: The Midwest Championships THREAD

dxp: Can’t make everyone happy with the scheduling. Friday is a non-EVO day anyway, just side tournaments anyway.

Sabre: Have you got your plane tix yet?

I’ll be there. If it matters at all anymore, I vote for Happ Comp sticks, too. p360s have always been weird to me.

But, coming out of a long long retirement, its not like I’m going to bust any heads anyway. I’m coming for the good times and good company.

Will anyone be bringing copies of Jump! Ultimate Stars? That could/would make for some fun casual play.

Edit: When does Early Bird Registration begin?

damn, the Evo brandname adds an additional $25 to on-site reg? that’s crazy. what about the people who honestly won’t know until the “last minute”?

it’s cool if i have to pre-reg, but some people will get the shaft. and for Evo brandname? I don’t see tons of additional equipment/staff added to this event than past MWCs. Console for Tekken. Arcade for almost everything else.

VF5 is new, but since console is already there for Tekken you can’t really make the argument that you need more equipment. Smash on Cube is totally new, but seeing as how Cube’s are dirt cheap, and Smash is a Player’s Choice title, what exactly is justifiying the jump in on-site reg? It better be more than just the word “Evo”.

It isn’t “just for the name”… the price is registration is lower; that is a last chance price. Your entire post makes it sound like that is the registration price and not the price for those who plan ahead.

The concept is very simple: if you pay beforehand, they know roughly how many people will show up, so they can be prepared for said amount of people. Since the price is lower to register online, people will look to pay that and register early so they pay less, thus making the concept work. The on-site fee is for those who basically show up at the last minute, which takes them longer to get you signed up (when you arrive at said event), and it throws off brackets and expected numbers of entrants.

Maybe you’ve never been to an Evo, but many here can recall the massive waiting lines at Evo in the past years. That’s the main reason.

dream: im planning on buying my tickets next weekend. get a hold of me when you can to discuss

it’s looking like i’ll be able to come to this (as long as cvs2 is on console). haven’t been up to nickel city in years, should be good to see old faces and shit. i’ll get some cvs2 money matches once i know for sure if i’m coming.

peace

popoblo: it is on console (CVS2) I would have had it on Arcade if I could have, but there is no way I could secure enough machines.

Wow, $45 for on-site entry and $10 per tournament. I want to enter 2 tourneys, and for 65 bucks, that aint worth it. Hell, even 40 bucks isnt worth it cause i dont really care THAT much about either game i would play in…

Maybe i’ll just show up on Friday…and maybe Saturday, too if i’m not busy just for kicks and just not play in the tourney…

The point is to register online, not wait until the last minute.

Dali: I know, I’m upset too, I can’t play PS2 at all =/

so if I just wanted to go and enter in a marvel tourney…is that all right? are there gonna be two different tourneys?

What? There are 8 (official) tourneys. You pay the registration fee (everyone pays this) then pay per game you compete in.

oh I thought there was something evo-ish and something not.

either way I just wanna play marvel, specially against people from outta town. I hope I don’t have to spend so much money just for that

I don’t really care for entering the tourney…I know I won’t do well…but if it’s the only way to play some marvel I will

Is this the Red Roof by nickels http://www.redroof.com/reservations/inn_details.asp?innNumber=188&VID=&NOA=&aYr=&aMo=&aDa=&dYr=&dMo=&dDa=&BTR=/reservations/YourPlaceToStay.asp&CP=&redi=&TA=

p.s. - I think the evo2k site has the wrong month listed for this tourney, is Says July 22-24 http://www.evo2k.com/north/

yeah, that’s it.

Evo is in June right? If it’s in July, I might be screwed.

evo north is definitely june. the july is a typo, and it is now fixed. thanx for the heads up.

It’s official…

I just bought my tickets to EVO North. Returning to the midwest for the first time in 5 years to pick up another EVO ST seed!

The only question is…

…are you ready?

What happens if you go, qualify for something, but can’t go to Evo World? I’m entering quite a few events at Evo North and doubt I will quali, but there are some good players going with me and they were wondering the same thing. There was a thread about this somewhere else but I didn’t see the question answered.
