damn that sucks. In a good way haha. I was laughing, it was well made high quality stuff. Good film for what it was.
You are godlike. I’ve met this person at a tournament before and he goes by Goddess Fu Sung.
I expected them to act like professionals and forget the seemingly American point of view that the USA is the only country in existence.
Surprised that more people don’t know who Fuudo is. The dude is godlike. He’s one of the best VF players ever. Plus IMO he had the second best Ryu in SFIV (2nd highest ranked Fei in AE, I think?). He was one of the players selected to fight Daigo in the original Arcadia Daigo Kumite.
I guess people Really enjoyed this video since it got a Sh*t load of views in 2 days

A new nickname for Mike.
Mike “Make you Kill Yourself” Ross.
At that point in the tournament, they pretty much were the only other country in existence. Also, why would they act like professionals? It’s a community-run event, not their day-to-day jobs. They don’t owe you anything.
I don’t recall saying they “owed” me anything. Only that it’s folly to assume that the US and its citizens were the only ones watching.
Also, if FG’s want to be taken seriously and “blow up” (as we heard over and over on the stream) they had better hope that they sound like professionals. A bunch of pro-US tools screaming “JUSTIN WONG! JUSTIN WONG! JUSTING MOTHERF**KING WONG!” into a headset doesn’t really appeal to any but the xbox live types who think it’s cool to swear on the internet.
^ Whoa, you’re sounding like some anti-American conspiracy theorist or smoething. I’m from the UK, stayed up until early morn listening to the stream and was not offended once.
What’s wrong with a little national pride? Whenever Wimbledon tennis tournament happens here, the commentators are always going on about the latest british hope. I was watching the swimming the other day and I thought the ex-pro who interviewed the British 4th-placer was downright rude in her expectations. In comparison, the stream guys were refreshingly unbiased (for instance, you never mention how they adopted Poongko as ‘one of their own’)
And although you never outright said the “owed” you anything, your attitude screams entitlement. Do you realise how difficult it is to organise something like Evo, and how badly it has gone wrong in the past?
…
One thing that is becoming really apparent is the huge gulf in understanding between the old school heads and the newer players. Ok sure, the 3rd Strike exhibition was a bit pointless and weird, but there were many brats in the stream just outright hating on the game. And they’d do the same to CvS2, A3 and all the other wonderful foundations of the fighting game tradition… “oh, it looks like a megadrive game”?! (love the scrubs-quote twitter btw, truly hilarious!)
Also: thankyou, Evo. I gave up fighting games for a while, preferring the likes of valkyria chronicles, but thanks to evo i’m eager to dig out the ol’ stick and head on over to the uk’s equivalent Super Vs Battle. Although of course rather than a huge Las Vegas hall, we have to settle for Harrow leisure centre… I mean I can honestly say there is no way it’ll live up to this year’s Evo. I don’t think there’s a stream going on or anything.
I agree 100% about the “old” vs “new” mentality. I loved getting to see 3rd Strike previewed. I got out of FG’s before SFIII came out so missed it, but getting to see it played at Evo really has sparked my interest in getting to play it when it is re-released.
In terms of Poongko, I wonder if he would have been “one of their own” if he was Japanese.
I’m for some national pride as well, but maybe being Canadian leads me toward a quieter, more subtle kind of pride.
Anyway, back to the Evo moments, could somebody explain to me why Deadpool dies in that vid? I’ve never played MvC so I’m curious as to what happened there… seems odd that a game would allow a move to kill the player by accident.
^^Rare footage of X-ray gettin blown up
Anyways, I think that Daigo vs Showstopper or Daigo vs Poongko has potential in the moments list.
Also shoutouts to Tom Brady’s Kung Lao gettin blown up
EDIT:When Deadpool uses his teleport, every third teleport he blows up and usually goes ‘curses! foiled again!’
hey man, edit comment about join date was a bit out of line (don’t think you saw it before posting, i just loled and assumed you were youngun) checking out your profile thoroughly I do see that you are my age. and yeah, canada-usa relations are going to be different than my perspective.
i just thought the stream was fantastic, especially ultra david and seth. james chen and skisonic were passable. i personally don’t like listening to the dude who did the mortal kombat commentary, but i should give him another chance i guess.
there’s like so many good one’s this year, both funny and shocking. Daigo getting bodied was maaan…I figured he might lose but not like that.
I would have loved to have seen that 76 hit Tager combo Mike Z did but my Evo highlight for Blazblue would go Tokido vs Lord Knight match. Mortal Kombat had the best grand finals of Evo, Perfect Legends and Rio had a lot of back and forth. I’m glad PL won but Rio was definitely the crowd favorite. The second best grand final was PR Balrog’s magic Tron comeback against Dark Phoenix to reset the bracket.
AE was held pretty late so and I was sleepy so it was harder for me to get into it but Daigo vs Latif in losers was a real nail biter. Tekken gets no love for me because it was too much Bob versus everybody.
Thanks about the “join date” bit. Not often you see that type of “mea culpa” on the old internets.
Thanks also to Trollins for explaining the teleport… although that seems a touch lame. Why artificially gimp a character like that?
Another evo moment? The celebrations.
1 armed break dancing, Tokido doing the Akuma pose, Juicebox acting out his characters ultra’s, Poongko spilling Red Bull all over himself, etc… lots of cool stuff.
“In terms of Poongko, I wonder if he would have been “one of their own” if he was Japanese.”
Every year the Japanese come to the USA and every year they leave with the biggest title. I think the salt levels are acceptable, considering. And if there’s a player that’s quirky enough, I think he’d be accepted regardless, yeah.
i mean look at Latif! I had to laugh when I read he’s in the states on a travel permit.
Hadn’t thought of it like that. I retract my former complaint in light of this :).
Im more curious about that so-called fight going on that lead to the stream being shut down
Somebody wasn’t respecting the pipe.
lol Some kid in the stream was really excited about it. “omg, a real life fight at a fighting games tournament! <3 <3” Although it would of course be counter-productive for Evo staff’s relations with the hotel (and for anyone hurt of course)… I half kinda want it to be true also, hehe! But could just be a silly rumour.
