Evo Game Ruleset (Now Live!)

Looks great. Great lineup, great rules.

OBJECTION!!!

:stuck_out_tongue:

Suprised by the akuma ban, good call though.

I felt obligated to post after this.

Good stuff. Im glad akuma is banned for HDR. And im really glad that nobody is banned in SF4 this year.

Fuck that, the real Keits just likes to steal my grain.

He also said mean things about my mom one time

I’m with Wiz and Keits (and arguably the greater % of the community). Keits issues lie in banning characters without merit and before you know better and he’s right.

Post deserves a , a :clapdos:even

Although this is probably a silly point, the HD Remix rules should probably specify whether it is using Classic or Remixed mode.

He’s broken.

  1. Setups for Inescapable super. <—main reason
  2. fireball recovery/DP better than Ken/Ryu.
  3. He can juggle pretty much off every move.
  4. Air Fire Ball not only is the best cross up in the game (seriously, the fireball sometimes hit the back of the opponents head), it slows the game down too much when it hits. Sometimes it’s unplayable for the other person.
  5. There’s really no other reason to use any other character. Especially the other shotos.

thanks, updated.

also regarding the final boss stage in GGXX, isn’t that stage not in the arcade version? that would be consistent with the other bans for that game, at least.

so i see the version we’ll be using is the dreamcast again…

Hype, good decisions all around.

…sorry 360 users…:wonder:

well, of course it is in the arcade version but only when you are actually fighting boss I-no. Since you cant select a stage, you always play on the stage of whoever is the “challenger” and in the case of it being the first game for both players, 2nd players stage is used.

I’d love to make it to EVO, but I live on Guam and don’t got the cash to buy plane tickets across the Pacific Ocean.

I’m thinking of running a local team tournament here for SF4. I get how the Japanese do team tournaments, but with the 3rd Strike Evo tourney, but when I read the EVO team rule set, it said each player must play one game.

How does this work? Does each player have to play both players on the other team or just one of them? If it’s Team A+B and Team C+D, does A have to fight C and D once or does A fight C OR D?

It means if the teams are

Team A & B
vs
Team 1 & 2

Player A plays Player 1
Player B plays Player 2

Say, Player A wins, and Player 2 wins

Player A plays Player 2, and the winner’s team advances. Naturally if both players on the team win their first game, the team advances.

Game version: US Playstation 2
Game Settings: Versus Mode, 2/3 Rounds, 2/3 Games, 99 Seconds.
Gold, Shadow, EX Characters are not allowed in tournament play.
Kliff and Justice are not allowed in tournament play.
If the players do not agree on a stage within 15 seconds, the match will be random stage select.
If Final Boss Stage comes up on random select, players may opt to re-select another stage.

Two questions:

  1. Why not just make it random stage select from the door, instead of suggesting they need to agree on the stage?

  2. Why are kliff and justice banned? I wasn’t aware of anything game breaking they had.

  1. It’s just a formality; people usually do random select stage anyway. It’s not like each stage has anything that changes the gameplay mechanics anyway so…

  2. The same reason why EX characters are banned; they haven’t been beta tested at all, and they’re not selectable in arcades. And yes, I know Evo is a console tourney, but precedence has already been set in some games that have been out for a while already (i.e. obviously no Gill in 3S, etc.), so it doesn’t make sense to allow those two characters in a game that has been played competitively since late 2006…

Akuma probably should not be getting banned. We are not totally sure if he is completely overpowered (i.e. has all 9-1 matchups like in ST) or if he is just top tier. Akuma is really good (and had to be unlocked by code) in SFIV arcade too. Imagine if people had realized how good he was early on and won some tourneys with him. He might have been banned too. Wait until the game is truly and inarguably broken before we fix it…?

Is he really more broken than O.Sagat or Vega in ST?
