First game of a match to be played on Smashville.

Players can decide to play on any map, if both players agree.

Excessive stalling or abusing terrain to not engage the enemy is prohibited, and can be enforced by a tournament director only. This will result in a loss of the match.

Losing player can pick what method to be used after match:

Method A

  1. First stage is Smashville
  2. Winner keeps character
  3. Loser can either pick stage or character
  4. If loser picks stage then character is kept
  5. If loser picks character then stage is kept

Method B

  1. First stage is Smashville
  2. Loser picks stage
  3. Winner picks character
  4. Loser picks character

Was playing yesterday with the tournament settings and items turned on.

I have to say that with items on the game because a whole new level of interesting. Being able to set up launches by throwing a baseball bat up, and then knocking a person into the falling bat to their death is some entertaining shit.

Items = OK :tup:

it makes me fucking sick the way some tournaments banned stages and items in smash brothers

I agree, though I also think that some items just need to stay the fuck off.

Like the goddamn fan >.>

I just got into smash, so yeah I’m, how they say, the nubsauce.

Hurr >.>

AZ, give it up. that fight is lost for now. I think EVO is going to be really interesting. I recently started playing with Jack Keiser’s ISP items on, and it’s pretty fun. Because I’m not used to dealing with items it levels the playing field between me and my friends so anyone can win. It adds the uncertainty factor that really makes you sweat when you’re in a tight spot. I dig that sometimes.

well yeah ok i don’t really mind the items but the stages why banned hyrule temple i swear thats a popular map

It’s also huge as fuck for a 1 vs 1 match. Even though it’s against the rules you know some scrubs are just gonna play “Be a lil’ bitch and run the fuck away for a long ass time”

Of course it’s popular, it’s just bad for a 1v1

Hyrule temple is banned because people don’t like it when dedede carries them to a wall and infinites them for 3 stocks.

evo rules:

Allowed Items: Banana Peel, Unira, Spring, Mr. Saturn, Green Shell, Smoke Ball, Freezie, Super Scope, Sandbag, Food, Screw Attack, Warp Star, Metal Box, Bunny Hood, Beam Sword, Baseball Bat, Lip’s Stick, Star Rod, Hothead, Smash Ball, Ray Gun, Pitfall, Cracker Launcher, Motion-Sensor Bomb, Hammer, Golden Hammer, Bumper, Franklin Badge.

Banned Stages: New Pork City, Hyrule Temple, Warioware, Spear Pillar, Flat Zone 2, Original Mario Brothers, Mushroomy Kingdom, 75m, Summit, Rumble Falls

yeah. hyrule is banned. no fan either.

AZ knows what he’s talkin bout. unfortunate the rules of the game seem to be changed in the 9th inning.

then again, it’s brawls 1st evo. not melee’s. new game. new rules.

accept it or don’t. just no johning.

I’m agreeing with the items/stage lists, once I got over mourning the loss of the timer and Spear Pillar.

If you’re spending most of the time fighting the stage as opposed to your opponent, it should go (Rumble Falls springs to mind here, as do some parts of Rainbow Cruise).

The items were all tested for brokenness, though, and when grabbing one item can mean an instant stock for pretty much free (timer hijinks with Zelda, Falcon or Ganon, for example), then yes, they should be turned off. While the fan doesn’t kill, usualy, I can see how it could be abused as a stall, and so it too had to go.

One item that puzzles me most in its absence is the Smart Bomb. With some application of skill, all it really does is a few points of damage and no real knockback, and is more of an equalizing item, since the thrower can easily get caught up as well. Ah well, it’s not a major loss.

Fan users can cause a semi-infinite combo, that’s a LOT of free damage.

Even if the person getting fanned gets out of the infinite, depending on the character they can still get fucked up for it.

None of that stuff necessarily means the item is broken, just powerful. There is a way around all items. Some of them are just tougher to get around than others.

Thars no way round random.

where’s keits in this discussion? I’d have thought he’d be in here after AZ’s first post.

az - first off, i highly respect your views and opinions. (sincere)

but dang, just can’t resist discussing items.

look. bottom line in general - if things don’t turn out great at evo this year, changes will be made.

till then focus on things that are actually gonna happen.

evo in vegas.

Items add depth, skill, and randomness which most smash players can’t deal with because it’s something they’re not used to.

People who dislike items=scrubs.

Kthxbai.

What’s this!?!

No Item discussion
No Stage discussion
NO OPINIONS OF THE ABOVE TWO

FINAL DESTNIATION!!!

Really though come on guys, he asked specifically for this crap not to happen.

I just found this thread, and all I have to say is:

I fought my war. Everything that needs to be said has been said. When I started, I was alone and laughed at. Now, even my staunchest of foes can understand my point of view. Strides have been made. I am a strider.

Please enjoy this game at Evo with these rules, and when it goes well, please ask for the rest of the items next year. Thank you!

yep yep and also people that only play on final destination are scrubs
