Sweet. Come on Wiz, do the right thing.
I see these guys in evo
SFIVAE
TTT2
UMVC3
KOFXIII
Blazblue Continuum Shift Extended
DOA5
SFxT
Holdon, you see KOFXIII, Blazblue, DOA5, and SFxT above MK9/Injustice? What’s your justification?
KOFXIII being above MK9/Injustice actually makes sense not only because I’ve been hearing rumours of Atlus being a partial sponsor (which would also bode well for P4A), but because KOFXIII is most likely going to have a rather large international turnout. I mean, it’s entire Top 8 was international last year. That’s partly why I legit think my lineup prediction of AE2012/UMVC3/KOFXIII/TTT2/P4A makes a lot of sense.
Roughly 12% of the KOFXIII players who attended Evo 2012 were from countries other than the U.S. or Canada. 6% of the Mortal Kombat attendees were from countries other than the U.S. or Canada. The delta of 6%, if applied to current attendance trends, would not suggest that KOF would have more players than MK.
Concerning sponsorship, I believe sponsors are lined up after the game selection has been made. Additionally, Warner Bros. would likely sponsor again, and it appeared that NRS and the Evo team have a strong relationship (based on what I saw, but I could be mistaken).
They could just do 6 again and put both in to make both scenes happy. Of course, that’s probably a pain to handle, but an AE2012/UMVC3/TTT2/KOFXIII/P4A/MK9 EVO would be fucking STACKED.

I don’t understand how you can put BB:CSE on that list considering that the previous iteration got a really low turnout when it was on the Evo main game in 2011…and that a NEW BB game is on the horizon.
This “two game maximum from a Company” idea is a really good idea. It allows smaller games to have some of the spotlight and it would make some scenes (Capcom Scene) Compete for spots. The loser would probably be SFXT, SF4 is currently more popular and international than SFXT and UMVC3 is a juggernaut in terms of turn-out, hype and stream views.
I also do think that side tournaments should get some more spotlight. Maybe play Top 3 of the most popular side tournaments on stream or something.
Honestly, there are only 3 spots are open for these games-
KOFXIII- Scene is small but very international, very hype.
DOA and VF5FS- Scenes are small but committed. Probably side tournaments.
BB- Poor BB, their games are moderately popular, but their fan base really knows how to Torpedo a game.
P4A- P4A is not too dead, it still pulls good numbers at Tournaments and many Japanese players are interested in playing in the USA.
SC5- Scene is small, somewhat dedicated. Probably side Tournament.
Arcana Heart- Game is good but a joke in the FGC. Side Tournament.
UNiB- Who knows?
MK9- Mock MK9 all you want, the game is more popular than we all think. Tons of casual FG players always tell me “SF4 sucks, MK is the best FG around” and the scene is moderately sized and is pretty dedicated.
Injustice- Who knows? Game seems to be gaining positive attention in and out of the FGC. It may be a hit.
SFXT2013- This will either be really good, mediocre or a flaming pile of crap. Its the latter two, it won’t be at EVO. Apparently, the guys who run EVO hate it and most of the FGC hates it. The only reason people even cared about the game at the SF 25th Anniversary Tournament was because of the Car. The game has a large hill to climb.
(In order from most likely to least likely.)
Likely:
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver.2012
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Mortal Kombat
Persona 4 Arena
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Possibly:
King of Fighters XIII
Street Fighter X Tekken
SoulCalibur V
Dead or Alive 5
Skullgirls
Unlikely, but possible:
Injustice: Gods Among Us
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (Classic Mode)
Wishfully (on my part):
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R
I think Tekken is very likely to be there, since it’s been at every iteration of Evo since 2003, with the exception of 2012, and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is new.
Mortal Kombat has its own devoted community, and has been thriving throughout 2012, so I think it has a good chance to make it, and deserves to be there.
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is both the most popular game and one of the most fun and hype to watch. I think it’s very likely to be there.
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver.2012 is arguably the most international game, and is easily one of the most popular. I think we’ll definitely be seeing it again.
Persona 4 Arena is the most popular anime game at majors in the States right now, and has been drawing big numbers, especially at the Philly majors. Since Guilty Gear and BlazBlue are both in console update limbo, so to speak, I think Persona is a clear choice.
SoulCalibur and King of Fighters have very devoted international communities. King of Fighters players seem to be particularly crazy about their game, and the finals at Evo 2012 were definitely among the most hype. I think it’d be cool
Dead or Alive 5 is a new game, and a lot of players from the series’ community have come back to play it. I think there’s a fair chance it will be included.
Skullgirls was pretty popular at a point, and was played by people from a variety of fighting game backgrounds, but basically died because of the promise of a patch that was announced, and everyone dropping the game to wait for said patch. Now that the patch has been released, I’d love to see this game, which has basically been made by the FGC for the FGC, have its fair shake at Evo. I think a lot of people would pick it back up if that were the case.
Street Fighter X Tekken is a game that Capcom has a put a lot of effort into (regardless of what some people think about the result), and the 2013 update shows promise. Many top players, including Dieminion, JiBbo, Sabin, Infiltration, and Laugh, to name a few, feel that it’s a good game, and several have said that the update will make the game faster, better, and more enjoyable to spectate. I think it definitely has a shot to make it back, though it’s hard to say how likely it is to make it.
I think it would be cool to see Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and it seems like there’ s a remote possibility. The revival was pretty strong in 2012. Also, with the classic version seeming to have taken the spotlight, there should be less of a split in the community. I think it’s more likely that we’ll see another side tournament for that instead, though. Especially as the community would rather play the game on arcade cabinets or supergun setups anyhow.
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a possibility as well. It’s the newest of all these games, and has a variety of people from various communities trying it. I think it might not make it, however, because it’s kind of too early to tell who will really end up playing the game, and the ideal format is still undecided.
I’d personally love to see Guilty Gear included again. The game has been picking up again, since it’s available on PSN and XBL, and has netplay. Numbers at recent majors have been pretty good, and the high stakes Guilty Madness tournament at Next Level was a success. Unfortunately, I think the game would have a better chance in 2014, after the console Plus R update is out. A lot of people are waiting for that update before picking it up again.
I think the odds of us seeing Injustice aren’t too high, mostly because the game won’t be out until April, and the Evo staff like to see how a game does competitively and see how well it is embraced by the community before it is included in official Evo line-up. Granted, Mortal Kombat was released in April of 2011 and was included in Evo the same year, but for some reason, I think it’s less likely to happen again with Injustice. A lot of people seem to be skeptical about how competitive the game will be, which is understandable, given some of the elements in the game. I also think that a lot of people would like to see Mortal Kombat at Evo at least one more time, and I don’t think that Injustice and Mortal Kombat will both be included this year, since the communities, at this point, seem to overlap so much, and are in the relative minority. After some consideration, I think it’s actually still possible that we’ll see Injustice in the line-up, but it’s hard to say.
Please, just no PSABR. Its just so boring to watch.
I’d rather watch paint dry, or SFxT.
I’d rather watch Trials EVOlution than either of those.
DOA5 is a new game
KOFXIII’s evo2k12 was hype
SFxT because of the new patch coming up, so it is kinda like a new game
Why Blazblue? Well, simply because you have to have a surprise or two in there. Also it is closure for this game, kinda. Hell, it was early when I posted that >.>
I wouldn’t be surprised to see MK9 in there, It slipped my mind tbh. same as injustice.
There are few I forgot to mention though right by those; Persona 4 Arena, SC5, and possibly some kind of GG game.
Hell, don’t even ask me. It was 8 in the morning >.>
I just thought it would be clever when I was half ass awake
If PS All Stars actually makes it I will laugh until my ribs hurt.
i have to agree with the masses and say SF4, UMVC3, TTT2 are a given my picks for the other 2 or 3 spots are :
P4A- won lots of awards, well received by FGC , apparently still has a solid fanbase. honestly i think it would had gotten better reception if TTT2 did not come out 3 weeks later.
KOFXIII- huge turnout in evo2012 , hype finals , lots of interesting matches. although with the supposed shrinking fanbase and 25%+ DQ rate is surprising.
DOA5-fun to watch , plus when was the last time DOA was in evo?
VF5- my hopeful dark horse. highly unlikely though.
MK9- i never was a fan of the MK series. but if they was to go with a safe bet the MK it is.
PSABR- it would be a fun diversion from the rest of the hardcore fighters.
inclosing :
SF4
UMVC3
TTT2
P4A
VF5
PSABR
are my picks.
But it has no community support. Personally, I dig the game and I’d love to see high level play (and get crushed, two and out), but there doesn’t appear to be a scene materializing that actually attends tournaments. Hopefully, that will change.
It wasn’t hype enough to generate interest in the game. 24 people showed up to play at FF:V. There was such a low turnout at MLG events, they opted to discontinue carrying it. It pulled in roughly 1/3rd of the competitors of the other games.
Additionally, it’s very difficult to schedule, due to long match times.
It’s certainly not a bad game, and it might get picked up again, but there are very strong arguments against its inclusion.
Lol, no. Why would you give a failure a second chance if there are other options? Even SC5 has stronger potential.
It would be interesting to see BB once more. It never really got on its feet in the American tournament scene, for various reasons.
Having one or the other seems very likely, imo. Having both would be awesome, as they are different games.
Persona wouldn’t surprise me. GG would. It’s really long in tooth, and there isn’t any growth potential.
As someone who spends most of his life half ass awake, I completely understand.
